Firmware upgrade for Morphy Richards 27024

Please see this thread. For convenience I have summarised the update procedure below:

zip file

morphy product details

Quick installation instructions:

To update via memory card:
1. Place both "PR_MR006_Morphy_27024_1.12.0.0.55x" and "PR_MR006_Morphy_27024_1.12.0.0.bin" on an appropriate memory card.
2. Insert memory card into receiver.
3*. Navigate through the menu to Settings -> Advanced -> Firmware update 5. Select "Start Installer", and press "Select" to perform the upgrade 6. The software will be updated automatically, when finished the user will be prompted to remove the memory card and the radio will reboot into the new software.

* If the advanced menu is not present it means that the version of the Morphy software you are running is older than 1.10.0.147, in this case you will have to leave the card in during a power-cycle of the radio, the radio will then detect the new software on startup and re-flash.

Following the link from James's post to the M-R UK web site listing of the 27024, I see that they're selling it for £199-99. The price in Euros is €199-99, so the Sterling price ought to be about £133 - are M-R profiteering?! Igear, where mine came from, sell it for £149-99, which is more reasonable, the only snag being that you get a PSU with a two-pin Euro mains plug, but the cost of an adaptor is much less than £50!

Question Cannot Upgrade Firmware

Hi all,
i have one of the very first Morphy Richards Receivers (November) with no "Advanced Menu". I followed the rules for the update, but nothing happens. I tried:
512 MBYTE SD-CARD (1 try:Formatted in the receiver, 2. try: formatted on my PC and then off course copied the two update files to it)

I unplugged the power supply, then replugged it (leaving the card in the receiver). During the initialization nothing exceptionel happens ("booting" as usual). The receiver just shows the time on the display. Then i switch it on. New new firmware :-(

I always verified that SD-card and reader are working. After a dozen of trials i gave up.

Any idea? Some basic mistake i am not aware of ??

Hi, Daniel -

Like you, I have an early RX which originally had no advanced menu, but I managed the update with no problem by re-powering the RX with the SD card in place as suggested. As it booted up, it came up with the message "New software detected". The only thing I can think of that I did differently from you was that I didn't format the card in the radio before hand - I bought a new card (512 MB Sandisk), plugged it into my PC (it didn't seem to need formatting), copied the two files onto it and then transferred it straight to the radio. There's been some correspondence on the IBSNET discussion group recently about the fact that it often seems that if you format an SD card in one device it won't then work in another, and also that there are a lot of counterfiet and just plain sub-standard SD cards around in the market at present. It might be worth your getting a new card of a reputable make and loading the files straight onto it without formatting it in the radio first.

Good lucK!

A new report on DAB+ from the World DMB Forum, available at

http://www.bayerndigitalradio.de/dow...3_worlddmb.pdf

contains the following paragraph:-

3.2.3 DAB+ ready Receiver radio
The newest DAB/DRM radio from Morphy Richards contains a DAB+ upgradeable chip (AAC is
also used in DRM).

This is followed by a picture of the 27024! It's a pity that its sensitivity on DAB is inferior to radios which use the rival "Pure" innards!

Regarding the Morphy-Richards, I've found another function which isn't mentioned in the instruction booklet - it'll play MP3 files from the SD card, so you can download something to your PC, copy onto an SD card and then play it on the radio.

Morphy Richards 27024 future?

Does anyone know of the future of the Morphy Richards 27024 radio?

I note that the Morphy Richards web site has been changed and it says that the 27024 is no longer available. However, it is still shown as being on sale at http://www.igear.com for 149.99ukp.

I see that the firmware download page has also changed to http://www.morphyrichards.co.uk/Down...?Product=27024
but the version remains at 1.12.

Is this radio now 'dead' and is the firmware no longer being updated?

David

When they first changed the website there was no link to the firmware upgrade.

I asked Morphy Richards whether the DRM 27024 had been discontinued.

Email just received from Morphy Richards Consumer Affairs Department:

"Thank you for your e-mail. Model 27024 is a currently available model. We are currently in the process of updating/changing our website and some products are not available to view at this present time. I have attached a spec sheet for model 27024 for your information. Assuring you of our best attention to quality and customer support."

That is quite a relief, Mike. It's just a shame they didn't say they were upgrading the 27024 firmware also. http://www.drmrx.org/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif
