Exclamation How do I get started?

Hello, I want to know how to get started in this hobby of digital shortwave radio, Things seem to be too complicated and I just saw that Sangean came
out with a DRM-40 portable radio, but the FCC will not approve it yet. I just
want to know what do I need to get started. I have 3 shortwave radios,
I have the YB-400 PE, DX-398 (junky radio needs replacement) and a DX-392
receiver. Also I have a S-350DL that I use for general shortwave listening. I have outdoor antennas. I bet other people who came here wondering how
we can connect these boards to the computer. The FCC is taking a long time
to approve the Sangean radio, and it will be a long time and missed out digital
programming.

Please help me out thanks,

Adam E.

Hi Adam,
I would not try the YB 400, better use the DX-398, which is the same as the Sangean ATS909, there is a document about how to do the modification for this receiver on this page:

By my experience use a battery powered laptop to prevent electronic interference, with the cabling between computer and radio wound around ferrite chokes.
Or alternatively or in addition use a balance antenna system. Dipole with balun or balanced loop.

Sounds good, but the manual is in german not english. is there an English version of this manual? Plus is there a step by step on what I need for
this receiver? Why can Sangean or Radio Labs do this modification? They
need to come out with a DRM radio for dummies book, cause I don't know
anything about this, I wanted to tune them in. Its funny that my analog
equipment hears them all the time on the 49 meter and 31 meter bands but
its just noise.
