15340 kHz Radio Romania to SE Asia
I can see the Label "Galbeni EM2" here in Japan. 20.96 kbps is too high to be decoded here. The Channel Impulse Response is not too bad, but the signal is weak but comes with rather strong Fading.
Around 0335 a 1000 Hz modulated AM signal temporary interfered with the DRM reception. Last edited by Digger : 28-06-2012 at 04:11. Reason: Added the log |

At 0320 Zulu on July 6, 2012, I briefly received the SDC for Galbeni EM2 in Montana on Newstar's DR111. I'm currently using a poorly strung 32' random wire antenna.

I'm currently receiving a DRM signal on this frequency, but who is the broadcaster? I'm on a different PC from the normal one so I can't check my usual sources. One on-line guide shows RRI broadcasting on this frequency, but in analog. I suspect RRI is broadcasting DRM again this summer on this frequency. Unfortunately, my Newstar DR111 failed to log the signal again. I'll try again tomorrow as I'm pretty sure this broadcast is from RRI.

If "currently" is 0300-0400 UTC, then yes it is RRI Galbeni EM2 with an hour of 21kbps mono in English. Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris,
Seems like New Zealand gets a lot more signal from Romania compared to my location when I'm in Japan! |

Ambient Conditions: 58 F @ surface, RH 28 %, partly overcast, average noise, PC off ( 0 dB loss)
Results today weren't as good as a couple of days ago. This broadcast is probably my best chance of decoding some audio from a RRI broadcast in digital. What's the distance from Galbeni, RO to Billings, MT across Asia and the Pacific Ocean? I'm guessing, but the distance is probably at LEAST 25,000 kilometers, maybe 28,000 km? ... Terje,
I've updated my version of DRM Log Plotter to your latest version, 14.06, to use this function. Thanks! According to your software, the distance of the longer path in this case is ~ 31,000 kilometers ... ![]() |

I wish RRI would drop the bit-rate on this broadcast ... I was hoping for a label tonight as I came close. ![]() |

The best result by far to this point, but still no label. Remember. This distance is over 31,000 kilometers, but it does indicate that decoding the audio from Vatican Radio on 17500 kHz is indeed possible from my location. Last edited by tpreitzel : 14-05-2013 at 20:16. |
