Thumbs up

Here also roughly the same situation as for previous logs.
...but the signal was a little stronger today.

3rd July

I probably profited from that stronger signal last night. The first 15 minutes was about nothing, but the last 93 minutes gave >99% CDA.

The log was timer started, which caused the loss of the Label.

Nothing but *not perfect* here this evening... The Doppler was on the rise for the last 50 minutes.

Almost perfect after a period with lower SNR (which can also be seen in Terjes report).

Yes, there was a problem with the signal for some minutes.
In the panadapter it looked like the intermodulation was modulated by something,
but it was not synchronous with the CVC AM modulation on 17680 kHz.
Two more dropouts for unknown reason, still fiddling with my testinstallation on Windows 7.

This Gigabyte Board used to cause DRM dropouts
with my Flex-5000A and VAC using Windows XP.
Now the same problem with the Perseus using Windows 7.
Different drivers, tried several BIOS settings, no change, think I give up.

My Gigabyte EP31-DS3L and XP behaves OK, but the Ionosphere doesn't !!

Must try my wife's AMD HP with Windows 7 one day and see if it makes a difference...

Hi Terje,

good result,
but why don't you try a horizontal dipole 2X 4m up ~8m instead?
I'm sure that is better than your 0.nothing meter short active antenna.

Hi Friedrich

The funny thing is that my 0. nothing active antenna performs better than all the other wires of different length and different matches I have tried.

And... no trees to hang a dipole in...

Yes, Terje is right. I sometimes use my modified mini-whip with better results than that of the wire but ALA (indoors or on balcony) gives even better results and it is directional.

Certainly a loop supresses local interference better than a relatively short wire.
I am living out in the country and the next house is 200 m from here,
so luckily have no problems with that except some electric fences.

Still have my pc dropout problem, otherwise good reception:

My modified PA0RDT antenna (this type of antenna is described at various places in the web and also resembles the Standard Radio and Telephone's active antenna) works well. Mine works with the FRG-7700 from 25 kHz and up to around 25 MHz. I have received Archangelsk on 25 kHz with it and most of the times it has never let me down.

As today, when I logged CVC with >98% CDA. The whip is 70 cm long. 170 cm long whip is not any better. 5 cm whip (???) still works ok too. I will try to set up a dipole, but I am quite sure that this type of antenna with a 1:1 balun to the RG-58 coax cable will not change anything dramatically. Fritz lives about 500 km north from my QTH and that might influence the reception too.

Anyway, enclosed, today's quite good log (with a 70 cm short antenna).

I'm still after my dropouts. Does not seem to be a USB problem.
Well, good reception anyway - with a big high wire antenna.
