Encompass (BBC) Broadcasts to 2019 DRM GA

BBC Encompass ONLY tests please, any frequency ..

The signal was present at my location which means the BBC selected a very good frequency for both the GA and areas to the west and east for a considerable distance. Residents on the East Coast of the USA probably could decode the broadcast. A SNR of 1 dB isn't anything at all, but the signal WAS present.

I would hope so - that's where the transmission was targeted!

Faint traces of DRM signals seen on SDR waterfall displays on both 11780 & 11790 at home here in New Zealand, but far too weak to decode anything.

Cheers, Chris

Clint,

You're very well mannered (assuming you recorded this video at the GA) during these pauses in digital reception. I'd be murmuring obscenities .... I do TRY to control myself for God's sake, but it rarely ends well in such cases ...

Hopefully, Avion has addressed issues in performance with their latest incarnation of the 1401. Thanks for the video.

March_27_BBC on 11780kHz

Weak signal + fading + QRM. Some fragments of audio. No log.

BBC 11790 kHz Reception in Elche, Spain

Today's reception of the broadcast relatively close to the target area. The auto time-out of the KiwiSDR receiver limited the logging period to less than 15 minutes.

For some reason the transmission was running at 16 QAM which produced an audio bandwidth of just over 4 kHz. Yesterday the broadcast used 64 QAM providing an audio bandwidth of 12 kHz.

Journaline was turned on, but seeing as this was a demonstration of DRM it would have been nice to have some multi-media transmitted too (using 64 QAM).

the 2nd attachment shows the clear 16-QAM signal constellation due to the strong signal.

BBC 11790 kHz Reception in Bucharest, Romania

Today's reception, via KiwiSDR, of the broadcast away from the target area.

The 2nd attachment shows the clear 16-QAM signal constellation with the lower strength signal.
