23rd Feb.

RNZI logged from 1027-1057 UTC. 17.53 dB max. SNR and 56.54% decoded audio. A second part logged from 1101-1157 UTC. 17.7 dB max. SNR and 84.49% decoded audio. Two logs by mistake, misread the schedule.

25th Feb.

RNZI logged from 0849-1157 UTC. 18.17 dB max. SNR and 47.53% decoded audio. A rather disappointing result. This segment used to be much better a couple of years ago.

Roughly the same result today. RNZI logged from 0853-1157 UTC. 18.22 dB max. SNR and 51.84% decoded audio. No decoding at all today again after the break around 1057 UTC.

SW Speed: High, SW Density: High
Environmental Conditions: PC on, M2 off ( 2 dB loss )

Notice the loss of audio about 1045Z which could have been largely prevented using a MSC of 16 QAM. Yes, even RNZI needs to switch to a MSC of 16 QAM as it's difficult to receive their broadcasts at my location (granted, outside their target area) for 3 months out of every year with their current configuration and selected frequencies. RNZI was carrying an excellent CBC (?) production during the 1000-1100Z period on the mysteries of music and nearly the total broadcast could have been received with a more robust configuration. Yes, I could have cut power to my PC to gain another 2 dB of SNR, but RNZI could use a more robust configuration as well. The mere loss of < 1 kbps of bit-rate would have made negligible difference in the quality of audio, but a significant difference in hearing most of the broadcast.

RNZI logged from 1022-1158 UTC. 18.78 dB max. SNR and 38.46% decoded audio.

I also heard a part of the "mysteries of music" which was very interesting, but I had to attend dinner here in Japan at that time.

But I think RNZI uses a very good configuration that has been used for a very long time.

RNZI does have one of the best configurations that use a MSC of 64 QAM, but even their current configuration can be improved by switching to a MSC of 16 QAM. I'd even like to see RNZI experiment with Mode A in conjunction with a MSC of 16 QAM due to their proximity to water. RNZI can do better.

RNZI logged for 126 minutes from 0851-1057 UTC. 18.51 dB max. SNR and 64.01% decoded audio. Splatter from China 10 kc up makes reception difficult. AIR AM in-channel QRM too. Channel Impulse Response is extremely flat.

RNZI logged for 189 minutes from 0846-1155 UTC. 17.3 dB max. SNR and 12.58% decoded audio. At 1155 UTC when the DRM stopped there was a strong AM transmitter on the frequency. No decoded audio from RNZI after 0930 UTC. Only 54% decoded audio during the first 45 minutes.

Decoded Audio: Unacceptable ... A Main Service Channel (MSC) of 16 QAM would have worked well, however.
