See attached screen grab. What is the schedule and target for this broadcast?

Same status, different day

They are in there, but with such a high bitrate and associated parameters, no MSC here on the West coast of the USA. Got 11.5dB SNR @ 1350z. They go to analogue this freq at 1400z. Brendan says he can tell they are there, but no lock at all.

Perhaps time will tell. I'd like to know who the target is :-)

I've emailed them directly, but no answer as of yet.

No decoding possible here in Wellington either. Here's my unattended log from last night. I kept an ear open for other frequencies yesterday, but nothing heard. This is probably from the RA Brandon site (19 31'S 147 20'E), with the target area being the Coral Sea (for redistribution to island broadcasters as with RNZI). If it's the same as the AM broadcast the transmitter beam is probably 10. At least that was the rumour I heard when I first heard about them purchasing some DRM transmitters.

Cheers, Chris

Here's my log from last night. High bit-rate and strong adjacent channel interference = no decoding

Cheers, Chris

More info on RA DRM

Craig Seager in Bathurst, NSW, posted this info on the HCDX mailing list today. I've been monitoring 12080 kHz for the last week, but have yet to see any signs of DRM. I'm still getting 5995 kHz every night, but not good enough to decode. No sign of any of the DRM signals that Aussie DXers are reporting on 1431 & 1701 here at my location in NZ.

Cheers, Chris

Quote:
Earlier in the week, Nigel Holmes at RA told me that 5995 kHz uses DRM
1200-1400 UT on 010 deg to PNG and 12080 is DRM 1100-1200 UT on 080 deg
(into SW Pacific). Both from tx's at Brandon. Nominal power is 8 kW but
did want to run as low as 2-3kW.

The relatively low power (and the beam headings) might explain the poor
results. I can't get anything useful on 12080, and 5995 only produces
occasional snatches of audio. The high bitrate (23.54kbps) no doubt
doesn't help.

Nothing here on 1431 or 1701 either (central west of New South Wales).
Can't even hear DRM hash on 1431; 1701 seems to register something in
Dream periodically, but not enough for any on-screen information &
definitely no audio yet.

Regards,

Craig Seager, Bathurst (Icom R75, Dream software)

Nice Opening - May 24

This morning, we had a nice opening on this freq and had solid audio for about 30 minutes with a peak SNR of 20.6 dB. It looks like the threshold for decoding the 20.46 kbps UEP AAC+ mono stream is about 17 dB.

Mark

Audio here too...

Not much and fairly broken. Just wonder if I had tuned in earlier...

Hi Fibber,

The signal was quite a bit weaker for me this morning - much weaker than it was yesterday. Just keep an ear on this frequency in the morning - and you will be rewarded

Mark

Hi All

I noted this transmission stronger than usual last night. Usually there
has been 0% decoding, but last night I decoded a few seconds

I think the audio on this service must sound very good in the target area - if there is anyone in PNG with a DRM receiver

Cheers, Chris

Well, I'm both very far away from and not even in the target area. But, here's my log anyway. No decoding I'm afraid, only SNR to show for the attempt.

The antenna here is an experimental 14"/33cm loop, currently being used indoors, which I'm testing for the designer-builder. It's doing a very good job all told.

Hi Everyone,

Reception of this broadcast seems to be improving to the U.S. West Coast. Toward the end, there was enough audio to determine that they were airing a Saturday Night Country Music program.

73,

Mark

Better than reception in New Zealand though

Strong AM signals on both 5990 & 6000 make decoding impossible
here.

Cheers, Chris
