KiwiSDR Reception at KPH, Point Reyes, California

A short log of the signal at the Maritime Historical Society's KPH Web KiwiSDR receiver at Point Reyes National Seashore in California.

The very quiet site with an excellent wideband antenna allowed decoding of the signal at S5 (-97 dBm). The signal initially was between S5 and S6 and then dropping down below those levels for the 2nd half of the log.

The site http://www.radiomarine.org/ is open to the public on Saturdays and well worth the visit (north of San Francisco)!

RU on 12025 for 23-24 Sep 19

Hard to call them Voice of Russia when that's not who is supposed to be doing this..

Considering how band conditions have usually been lately, reception was not too bad the last two evenings. For the 24th log, I did start monitoring at 2000Z, but nothing seen until 2100. The same log stops at 0400, but they were still going at 0500Z on 12025, so the posted sked has gone out the window.

Again, nothing seen on 15735 or 11615.

Brendan

The latest HFCC filing shows the broadcaster as VOR.
The ADM BRC FMO columns for the K/A (Komsomolsk-Amur) transmission are "RUS VOR GFC".

Russian 12025 kHz Reception

This evening's reception - no audio decode, 6.04 dB Max SNR.

The signal was strong enough to receive the station ID for the first time (attachment 2).

I tried out several KiwiSDR receivers in the east coast of North America, and the received signal was peaking S9 in New Hampshire and near Ottawa, Ontario. The audio decoding on those receivers was sporadic.

Russian 12025 kHz Reception

This evening's reception - no audio decode, 10.22 dB Max SNR.

Conditions perked up for a stronger received signal, including the screen ID (label) showing up on the log, but no audio decoding.

Russian 12025 kHz Reception

The scheduled transmission from Spanish REE on 12030 kHz makes reception of the Russian DRM signal, at my location, very difficult if not impossible to receive (see attachment).

I should have made it clear that the interference situation occurs at the optimum reception time for the Russian DRM signal.

The REE interference does drop down with time, but so does the Russian signal level!
