More changes...

Yesterday's latest HFCC listing shows that not only has the power dropped to 25 KW, but the transmit antenna is now an AHR(S)4/6/1.0 which gives it a little more gain, lower take-off angle, and a slightly broader foot-print.

Was this the original configuration or have they just changed it?

The way DRM transmitted power is reported to the HFCC varies with broadcast companies. Is the 25KW the DRM digital power output which is equivalent to 50KW analog AM, or is it a 25KW analog linear transmitter running DRM which would be 12.5 KW digital?

Additionally the transmission schedule has changed from 2000 - 1000z to 2000 - 0300z.

Even more changes...

Just looked at today's updated HFCC list and found that the Komsomolsk Amur transmitter site now has three VOR frequencies listed as of today (Sept. 5).

11615 2000 1000 26 K/A 250 34 0 217

12025 2000 0300 26 K/A 25 34 0 228

15735 0300 1000 26 K/A 25 34 0 228

Perhaps the 250KW power shown for 11615 kHz is a typo and should be 25KW as shown with the other frequencies?

Hi Zyg, Terje,
I think Zyg is right: 25kW sounds right for the quality of the signal I've seen here. Solar conditions over this path haven't been optimal, and I'm hoping for some improvement. Last night I saw only the briefest of signals on the waterfall, but it lasted only about 10 mins before fading out around 0250.

Playing with 25 dB SNR and S9 +3 dB at JP7FSO,Mastukawa,Fukushima JAPAN just now at 0200 UTC.

A clean signal with good Channel Impulse Response.

Btw, "Mastukawa" should be Matsukawa, but I copied it from the SDR page and pasted it here . . . :-)

Data on 12025 kHz

Noticed (Sept 9, ~2000z) via Japanese web KiwiSDR that the Russian 12025 kHz transmission is carrier plus data on the lower sideband (see attachment).

Looks similar to the WINB combo signal, but with carrier and without DRM on the other sideband.

Tonight's log

Haven't seen much of a waterfall the last few days. There was an opening, but it wasn't very good or very long.

Haven't seen that data carrier here, but given my results of late, not surprised.

Hi Brendan,

The data signal was not there for long, maybe 15 minutes or so. I don't know if it was transmitted again.

I checked several times yesterday (10th Sep.) and again this morning and until 0152 UTC I haven't seen any trace of activity on 12025 kHz. Even planned a trip up to Sendai on 24-25 Sep. just for fun, but perhaps I'll leave the DR111 at home . . .

12025 kHz

An SDR in Matsukawa around 0150 UTC with S9...S9+5 dB. Higher Bitrate and AAC+ this time. Very good audio quality.

"------" (a Russian DRM test from Komsomolsk-Amur[?]) logged for 76 minutes from 0341-0457 UTC. I caught the Label of this transmitter around 0340 UTC. Max. 9,71 dB SNR and 0,00% decoded audio. A weak signal from the back of the beam. The transmitter has been off air for a while but came back with a higher Bitrate and AAC+.

They are sometimes on the air, but definitely not regularly.

"------" (a Russian DRM test) logged here for 91 minutes from 0214-0345 UTC. I caught the Label at 0214 UTC. Max. 7,95 dB SNR and 0,00% decoded audio. A very weak signal from the back of the beam. The transmitter has been back again from time to time lately. 17,46 kbps and 400 ms interleaving today.

Very strong signal on a KiwiSDR in Fukushima.

VoR reports for past days

Here are two logs from the last few days. Propagation is improving here, albeit slowly.

One more log for now

Last night was the best propagation so far, and today's session is looking even better. I have not noticed them up much before 0100Z here before this, so perhaps today is an exception, or propagation is that much better. There were also plenty of AM 'breaks,' with bitrate changes yesterday, so the report is a bit wonky.

I'll be back later in the day my time with the today's results. I have fairly continuous audio coming at the moment, some laid-back instrumental music, much like yesterday.

VoR 12025 for 22-23 Sep

Not bad conditions for this broadcast. Not pleasant to listen to the dropouts, so I did mute after a while. The music seemed to be on a loop: I heard a vague Eagles Hotel California theme twice, and another rock melody that I can't name but recognized. Several DRM signal breaks: no analog carrier tonight, only "off" for brief moments.

Nothing seen on 15735 after 0300Z.
