Weak RF signal at times made decoding difficult on the DR111.

The enclosed log is a bit messy, but I wanted to show that the DR111 performs much like my "main" receiver, the Yaesu FRG-7700.

The red curve is the DR111 SNR. It peaked at 28 dB.
The yellow curve is the FRG-7700. It peaked at 37.6 dB.

The thicker blue line is the decoded audio from the DR111, about 76%.
The thinner line is the FRG-7700, which decoded 72% audio (!).

In the beginning the TX was rather strong, followed by a weaker period until it picked up again. Interesting is that the decoded audio is roughly the same. So the DR111 is rather a good performer.

RUVR runs Mode C for the time being and only one service, not two like they used to do.

Newstar DR111

Now they are running 9 kbps on this frequency too...
Today I used an external antenna to the DR111, just a simple contraption about 8 meters long wire thrown out from a window.

Suprisingly stable signal today. Only a couple of dropouts but audio quality does not sound as good as last
time I listened. SNR on the DR111 hardly ever going above one bar.

Newstar DR111

Unfortunately, the signal is not very strong in my direction, and the reception therefore suffers.

I appreciate as well that the VoR has ceased dual transmissions. But most of their broadcasts are suffering still from weak transmission power. 15 kW is not enough.

Newstar DR111

I forgot that I had set the sleep timer in the DR111, so here are two logs (both with the sleep timer). Therefore both are only about 30 minutes each. 92.6% and 99.8% CDA.

My second Newstar DR111 with telescopic antenna

Only 62% CDA, but from 11 UTC local thunderstorms may have interfered.
