An unattended log with some Syncs registered. I was not awake, so take the log as a hint that something is present on the channel. Second opinions welcome!

Japanese DXer S.Hasegawa reported in DXLD that he has catched some Korean DRM on 3560 kHz at 2000 UTC. Screenshot: http://userimg.teacup.com/userimg/61...bs/0042554.jpg

He reported Korean and Arabic audio and is speculating about new transmitters from China in North Korea... very confusing as Digger had identified South Korea as the origin of the transmission (or actually was near to an identification )

Perhaps I'm going over in July or August to Japan. I will certainly check this out.

Interesting, The label was CUC-ECDAV: Looking for this ECDAV in Google, I stumbled on "ECDAV, Communication University of China, Beijing, China"

Somehow, this does fit, Digger. See the North Korea article on this website (in German only) http://www.radioeins.de/programm/sen..._20120528.html

It says: "Als Besonderheit erwähnt wurde dabei die Ausbildung koreanischer Techniker, welche die Sender ohne Unterstützung des Lieferanten installieren." which means that Korean engineers will set up the new transmitters and that those people will be trained by China. Probably at ECDAV... So one possibility would be that these broadcasts are coming from a test-location in China (I don't think so) or that they have adopted the software-setup in North Korea and are now testing the transmitters there.

I just had to fly over to Japan to have a closer look at this frequency...
The best (?) reception was from 1150 to 1230 UTC. The clock in Dream shows UTC +9 hours and that corresponds to Korean and Japanese time. The signal here in Shizuoka-City is rather weak and I have not been able to optimize my equipment yet. The ID is 5B1, the transmission was (still is) A/10 kHz, 17.46 kbps and P-Stereo. Protection level: 1/0 and 16/16. I recorded some program contents and I will listen to that tomorrow and report back.

PS: The sound I got on HDD was quite different from the content from the 4557 kHz in February. Here it began with Kim-ilSung x10000 and then a 35000 man army choir hymns (to the same guy?). Hard to guess where this transmission originates, but judging from the reception it may be from China (or a QRP TX in DPRK). Anybody's guess.

And... DPRK seems to have enough power to keep ALL their jammers on air

16th June

Hi Andy and all,

Yes, definitely a peculiar choice of frequency. I missed the start last night and did not stay up that late, so the log is only 77 minutes long. The CDA was about 48%. At the beginning the programme was in French, later on it was in Chinese and also some chinese music. The Audio Level is OK, but the audio itself sounds a bit rough and sometimes distorted.
