It is Monday 9 July at 1115 UTC (8:45 am local time). Yesterday afternoon, our local electricity unaccountably died for an hour. That reset my MorphyRichards 27024's clock back to its defaults, some time and date in 2006. Long ago, I gave up trying to put in the correct time myself, hoping for a DRM station to reset it for me. Manually, that takes about fifteen minutes of constant turning a button; but it's just a few seconds of the right DRM. Sadly, most of the regular DRM stations don't have that particular aspect of their DRM settings in place. For instance, neither Kuwait nor Romania resets my clock.

I do listen to DRM on both Kuwait and RRI. WINB's DRM I cannot listen to for its oddball fire&brimstone stuff. But WINB's peculiar programming is made up for by its clock correction!

Their signal is not strong enough here today to hear more than a few seconds of audio every minute or so. But within a few seconds of my tuning in, it had brought my MR27024 around to the proper time & date. The MER rates are vaying this morning from about 11 dB (too low for audio) to 18 dB (good for audio).

Downtown St. John's, Newfoundland.

From this date, I will NO longer listen to any non-xHE-AAC audio even IF the digital signal can be decoded. Thankfully, current bugs in my GR-216 and the inappropriate use of 64 QAM modulation make it easy to do. It's time to move to xHE-AAC and 16 QAM modulation on shortwave.

The relative emitted energy between the upper and lower 5 kHz segments has apparently changed with better synchronization at my receiver as a result. Regardless, I won't be listening to AAC+ broadcasts anyway.
