RRI on 5980 kHz from Galbeni

Hi All,

I was just listening to the 2300 GMT broadcast on 5980 kHz, which is in AM, when suddenly at 2320 it switched to what sounded like a DRM signal, which isn't listed as being on at this time.

I switched on the DRM decoder and Dream is showing this as coming from Galbeni TX1.

I'm not sure if this is a switching error, or if someone is just giving it a quick test, but if anyone sees this post before it goes off you might want to check it out.

Oct 30th, 2017 log ... The time of my DR111 has been off several minutes, i.e. 5 minutes in this case, for some time. Maybe, I'll remember to set it properly by the next log ... BTW, I stumbled on this frequency by accident as I hadn't seen the original post.

Very good frequency selection with a poor configuration ... RRI, you can do much better than your current configuration suggests.

RRI 5980 English DRM 2330

Glenn Hauser is reporting on World of Radio that RRI is using DRM here from 2300-0000 in English.

2 Nov 2017 : RRI on 5980 kHz from Galbeni

Nothing was received here. During B16 there was an one hour English programme on 6015 kHz from 23:00 UTC.

Glenn Hauser's latest log via his DX Listening Digest mailing list gave the following, I will try and check tonight and see if this is still the case:

** ROMANIA. 5980, Nov 2 at 2330, RRI has reverted to AM, after running DRM by mistake for the first four days of B-17 during this English hour, now with classical music. With DRM I was still able to detect the JBA AM carrier from R. Chaski, PerĂº, amid the noise. Now with BFO, I hear a bit of a warble which could be caused by two carriers on slightly different frequencies, but there is no change between 2334 and 2335 when Chaski should be autocutting off. I am afraid the frequencies are too close together, and the warble may have been due to unstable ionospheric propagation from Galbeni (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Nov 3rd, 2017 log which my DR111 conveniently failed to save AGAIN ... The poor logging process is one of the few problems that I have with the DR111.

The average SNR was quite good, i.e. 6+ dB with a maximum SNR ~ 9+ dB. Overall, the result was very good for my location.

Nov 4th, 2017 log ... nearly as excellent as 6145 kHz a few days ago.

If RRI had used a MSC of 16 QAM, I would have decoded nearly the entire broadcast ...

Spot checked this at 2335-2345 UTC. Got the label only, Galberi TX 1. No stereo indicator so presumed mono-signal.
