This evening they were back to square one. Mode C and 9.1 kbps. After the break from 1917 - 1927 there were no surprises - only that the SNR decreased a little.

Very strong signal on Newstar DR111 in Devon UK, but still very bad audio quality, quite disappointing

Now VoN has spent a lot of money for big new transmitters and antennas.
The signal is very strong and easy to receive, but the engineers behind the project have not learned their lessons and obviously are unable to configure a DRM modulator correctly.
Ridiculous audio "quality"!
If they are unable to do it the right way they should go back to AM so we can at least understand them.

Great results but they could try some better configuration.

VoN in Japan

I left the radio on during the night here and set the DRM-Plotter to log one hour of 15120 kHz. To my surprise this morning I saw 26 minutes at the beginning with almost perfect decoded audio. Max. SNR was 17.4 dB. 92.6% CDA. After 1900 UTC there was no more decoding and the Doppler left the top of the plotting area around 1920 UTC. But still, the signal was there (or here) - hi.

Sadly although the audio is generally pretty rubbish it is still better than the am broadcasts they were putting out on 15120 before the DRM tests. I think before the switch they were using a low bit rate mp3 which on AM meant reception was abysmal.

Thumbs down

It's a shame!
They got the latest high power equipment and are unable to program a DRM modulator!
The signal is at 27 dB SNR here and the audio is rubbish.

Perfect reception (!) in Japan during the night. I had forgotten to mute the audio, so I woke up when they started. The language was not (?) English - or I wasn't awake enough to register what it was. But I also thought that the audio sounded a bit better than usual. Perfect decoding for 92 minutes. Max. SNR 17.8 dB. 99.82% CDA.

I might be speaking too soon but I think they might have worked out how to work with DRM. Sound has improved considerably tonight. Signal is so strong that it even works with telecopic down and no external plugged in. With an antenna plugged in signa strength according to my Newstar has not gone below 4 bars

A different story this very early Japanese morning. The first ten minutes were perfect, then 20 minutes of so-so and after that nothing at all. The max. Doppler value was 5.7 Hz at 1946 UTC.

Mikey, those bars in DRM represent the signal's SNR, not signal strength. I asked Newstar about that some time ago.

Voice of Nigeria with traces of signal. Max. SNR was 9.4 dB and no audio decoded. An unattended log.
