Hi Mike, strange how you had fluctuations on the received frames, as our locations and antennas are very similar!

Yes very strange. The results on 9760 yesterday being the most extreme example but there have been others. The only thing I can think of that might explain it is the fact that I live on the edge of an industrial estate and near to the great western mainline. So lots of potential sources of electro magnetic noise. Also because I live in a shared house all my antennas are located indoors. That said when monitoring 9760 yesterday there was no sign of any interference on the spectrum.

AIR's DRM broke down so I caught the very end of Nigeria instead. Perfect decoding in this short log

Horrible audio quality

Hi all,

The DRM audio quality of VON is appalling. I was under the impression that this was a temporary thing part of the start-up but it keeps on going.

My advice to VON is to stop these DRM transmissions if you can not correct this problem.
I wonder is anybody at VON listening to these DRM broadcasts? I doubt it.

So VON management get your DRM act together or stop DRM transmissions completely.
With this quality it is a wast of time and money and you annoy listeners like myself.

Tony

Poor Audio

Hi Tony, good to hear from you. I must confess the quality of the transmission is certainly not up to BBC standards! Some of the problem is the quality of the original audio is poor. I am sure you are right that nobody at VON is actually listening, as I am sure you will be aware that they were transmitting for many months without any programming at all!

I wonder where your location is Tony?

Hi Tony and all,

The audio and the DRM configuration has been (almost) the same since day one.

It is not just VON (and AIR) that has a problem with the audio for DRM transmissions. In 2004 I was in contact with Jan Peter Werkman of Radio Netherlands. But at least they responded: "Anyway we are aware of the problem and we'll see what we can do in the near future to improve the audio levels."
