Juelich Shortwave Station
This station is dead. I was passing there on the autobahn today.
All masts are still standing but all curtain antennas are already removed. I heard that only two masts will stay there as a technical monument. |

So sorry to hear this. Wasn't Jülich one of the oldest German HF stations? It's still on Google Earth by the way, so that may be the only way to get a feel for it. I actually hate hearing about HF stations being dismantled, it is one less station to listen for.

At one stage RTL used the site for DRM tests to the UK for the return of the English version of Radio Luxembourg, but never progressed the idea!
There is more here as CVI has changed it's shortwave usage! they have also done DRM tests to the UK from the site, but abandoned plans for a full service and now use FM in Africa! http://mt-shortwave.blogspot.com/200...ations-at.html CVI has also closed the Darwin site it leased for a while http://mt-shortwave.blogspot.com/201...elay-site.html Rather than run their own transmitting sites many broadcasters are following the BBC and using companies like VT for shortwave. It is for many radio stations technically and financially more interesting to rent transmitters from big sw brokers like tdf and vt.On my vacation in france i past near issoudun and went to take a pick nick near the allouis antennas it is very impressive to see such big rotabele antennas, and it is normal that broadcasters are unable to make such big expenses.

Here is a german local tv station video of the demolition of the masts:
http://www.wdr.de/mediathek/html/reg...e&#flashPlayer Click on item no. 4: Einknickende Sendemasten Source: http://blogs.rnw.nl/medianetwork/dem...ansmitter-site Three masts and one transmitter will survive as a museum. Last edited by FritzWue : 2010-10-02 at 18:40. |

In the future there wont be any more stations in Europe transmitting in short wave, china will begin producing low cost drm receivers for the Indian market, and then commercial and non official station's will take over the sw band like in the pirate era in the 70's look the link .http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AM-DRM-Transmi...item2c57c7907e.Nice for the neighborhood

The am band is free to private broadcasting in EU, all bands below 30MHz in AM/DRM. You have the rigth to broadcast as a community or commeciall radio.
