11810 kHz RRI Galbeni, Romania, transmission to Canada

I saw that this half hour transmission from Romania is directed to Canada. Here is my first reception report - SNR peaked to 16.09 dB and 16.60% audio decoded.

I wonder why they're transmitting so late in the day? Thats 2200 on the west coast, 0100 on the east.

Who knows? Probably the same reason why TDP transmits in the afternoons when most people are working and not listening.

Only phantom SNR lines, followed by trace SNR marks.

Can I send you guys some electrons back from Down Under?

This transmission hasn't been good here, until today.

Strange stuff. I don't know if anybody is receiving the signal in Canada, but it's not doing well in the SE USA - 11.13 dB SNR and no audio decoded.

Slightly better reception here in New Zealand

Perhaps they don't know where Canada is?

It's a shame that the audio quality is awful.

Cheers, Chris

Amazing that the signal is heard in New Zealand but not near the target area. From Chris' report on the audio quality it's probably good that we can't hear it!

RRI Galbeni 11810 kHz beam heading.

According to the latest hfcc data, RRI Galbeni is transmitting with 300 KW using a 4/2/0.5 curtain array beaming in a heading of 285 deg.

I plotted the coverage area with VOACAP using those parameters for predicted signal strengths for this month (April 2011) and the results are shown in the attachment.

No wonder that I can't receive anything. Their beam heading is about 25 deg south of what it should be to target Montreal (the largest French speaking city in Canada)! The signal not only misses Canada, but it also misses the entire continent of North America!

This also explains why Chris is able to receive the signal in New Zealand!
---------------------
DRM schedule was wrong this broadcast target is France not Canada!
