DW-Sines on 5980 khz

From Colombo on June 20th 2004

Hi all,

just listened to DW-Sines on 5980 khz for almost
one hour. Signal was improving during this time
steadily and very impressive how good the Audio
quality is over such a distance to here.

Signal was around S9+5-10 dB at this end.
Dropout around 21:29h UTC was due to adjustment
changes at my soundcard.
Observed same AM carrier interference like Karsten did
at around 21:46h UTC

I would be thankful if someone in Europe could do
monitor with DREAM SWR both signals: DW on 5980 khz
and RTL2 on 5990 khz between 21:00 -22:00h UTC and do a screenshot of the spectrum.
Would be interseting to see how both signals
work shoulder to shoulder.

Hi Wolfgang,
here is what the spectrum looks like, SNR on both frequencies was about 19dB, RTL2 slightly better than DW

Hi Wolfgang,

that's what the spectrum looks like, when I tune to 5985 khz with 20 khz filter.

Hi,

My first attempt on this frequency from Sines. No problem with RTL @ 5990 kHz.
Just a short test: 21:10 - 21:30 UTC.

Hi,

what is going on in Sines? Today no distortions in bass, but what will be tomorrow?

I think the lower bitrate is better for this transmission. Spectrum looked terrible, but no problems with reception, only at 21:47 the usual AM test on 5985 khz.

Hi Carsten!

Realy I dont know why some times we had distrotion, and other times the sound quallity is good! I think that the problem is came from DW satelite network, or maybe from the first audio source. You had reported the trouble in the sound, in 2 diferente transmitters and encoders. So the problem is not the encoder, or software error because 15440 and 13790 are one transmitter with self contened encoder, and the other frequencys are other transmitter and other encoder.
At the moment I`m not in the station during the DRM transmission because I`m working during the night, but I was open the audio control software in the transmitter that working in 15440 and 13790 and the audio level is in the last position that I had put it (-4,5 dB than the usual audio level). The audio transformer is also bypassed. It interesting if you can compare the audio quallity on 15440 and 15545 KHz at same time, because this transmissions are the same source but diferents TXs and encoders. If you can find any diference in bass distortion is possible that the problem is from modulator/encoder, but if the distortion is the same in both transmiters is possible that the problem is not from our sistem.

Sines 5980 in Australia

Great reception from Sines this morning on 5980.

Note how sensitive the system is to changes in SN - below about 12dB no signal, above this, the system decodes OK but the frame rate varies enormously with small changes in SN.

Cheers

Sines 5980 in Münster/Germany 09-08-2004 21:00 - 22:00

At the beginning of the transmission there were a few dropouts, but since 21:25 UTC there were no dropouts any more. Only a few times the SBR did not work for few seconds. Very good sound. Signal: 17.46 kbps/Mode B / 64QAM, no interferences, often fast and strong fading and a lot of multipath signals, but nearly no violation of the guard interval.

Sines 5980 in Germany 10-08-2004 21:00 - 22:00

Very good reception in Münster/Germany. About 45 min. the audio signal was perfect, although the signal became weaker and weaker. Only at the end of this test the signal became as weak that the S/N was too low and dropouts occured. At the same time the fading became stronger and faster.

17.46 kbps, 64QAM, Mode B.
No interferences during the whole test.

Good reception, very good sound quality - one of the pleasant Sines hours, this late one.

Perfect reception, except around 21:45 UTC. The AM interferer makes still its tests around that time.

The music in this hour is good, but it is each day the same.
