In the winter, I must contend with MUFs hovering around 7.5 MHz - 9.5 MHz during the time of this broadcast at my location. The only places on earth comparably rigorous during this time are central Canada and eastern Russia. I'll likely struggle to receive a SNR of 5 dB from RNZI on 9870 kHz until late January.

Better today

My problem yesterday was that the DR111 stood up on me - no data on the SD card.

But today I got the log, but the actual reception was better yesterday. Less than 92% decoded audio.

Usually we can listen to RNZI here in Stockholm during the winter. At my Japanese location 160 km west of Tokyo it always comes in strong on 9 MHz in the evenings there.

Hi,

Dual logging today, DRM Log-Plotter and DRMcalc. Also two separate files, since Windows 7 crashed...
1. 09:13-10:43 UTC with just 0.9 % CDA
2. 10:50-11:40 UTC with just 6.3 % CDA
both according to DRMcalc

RNZI 9870 kHz reception near Atlanta, Georgia, USA

This morning's reception (last three hours) - 45.10% audio decoded.

Terje - Have you tried the new VOACAP online?

There are two tools, one for radio amateurs and the other for SWL's.

The SWL tool is found at:

http://www.voacap.com/hfbc/

According to the above, the NW USA should have more RNZI 9870 kHz signal availability this month than Atlanta or Stockholm...

Further to the VOACAP on-line - you can select "DRM" under the quality menu!

OT

@Zyg: VOACAP, have seen it, yes, but not the DRM option! It could well be that influence of the Gray-Line also plays a role here in Stockholm.

... and they stuck with a good DRM configuration and kept it for ages! Not >20 kbps like many others... I'm looking forward to February in Japan...

We have a Indian station "vividh bharati" starting 9-00 utc and is powerful transmitting from Bangalore, India.

Thus we cant expect 9870 from RNZI

Tested the Roadstar

on the active antenna with this result: I hope it is not representative for the future Japan-expedition...

I was receiving this broadcast and using the Newstar's DR111 display to watch the SNR as I systematically tested more than two dozen cables to identify a fairly recent appearance of noise. It worked as I identified and removed three 6' unshielded cables. As a result, reception of RNZI on 9870 kHz this morning was excellently decoded with an average SNR ~ 16 dB. The percentage of decoded audio was probably greater than 90 %.
