DPRK shuts down minutes before 09 UTC, and after that RNZI does not suffer a shattered SNR spectrum. A couple of days ago when RNZI was off the air around 09 I did not hear anything particular on 9.875 MHz after 0900 in my part of the world.

Anyway, things improved today too after they left. But as usual, the last hour was the best. But with my "Smart" (?) Samsung QRM generator decoding stopped immediately. Grrr...

... and -10F sounds very chilly...

What explanation do you have for the markedly improved reception during the last hour?

Interestingly, a noticeable interfering signal remains @ 9875 kHz until 1100Z at my location which corresponds directly with my ability to receive RNZI on 9870 kHz during the last hour. True, I haven't been able to verify the identify of the interfering station, but it's definitely present until 1100Z ... I'll be back in a few hours or so.

According to B13all00.TXT is the first part beamed towards ciraf zones 51,56,64S,65S (AZ 325) and the last hour to 61S,62,63W (AZ 35). The ciraf.txt is here: http://www.itu.int/ITU-R/terrestrial/broadcast/hf/

The ciraf zones on the map (I'm in 18; sort of out of target... hi):

I'm aware of those documents. We'll have to agree to disagree, but you know your local conditions. At my location, the problem is interference until 1100Z.

Terje,

I wish you could see the interference that I'm seeing on 9875 kHz @ 0930Z on Dec 6th, 2013 ... While scanning in the MW mode, my DR111 even locks on the frequency of 9875 kHz, but I can't hear anything above the noise level.

Today was a very good day for RNZI. DPRK went off the air just before 09 UT and after that I could not see any more activity on that frequency here. The adjacent channel was not a problem this morning. Perhaps there was something weak 5 kc up, but it is hard to figure out with DRM on 9870 kHz.

97.78% decoded audio and an interesting programme about John Lennon.

Generally very bad conditions this morning. I listened to the same programme in AM on 9.765 MHz and the signal had short and heavy Fading. Today's log was not good at all.

Just to mention it, sometimes China 10 kHz up causes the upper part of the DRM SNR spectrum to collapse due to China's wide AM modulation spectrum (at least 12 kHz), which splatters into the RNZI channel. Especially noisy music and female announcers cause those problems.

Ambient Conditions: -21 F @ surface, RH 80 %, ice fog, average noise, PC & M2 off ( 0 dB loss )

A short 15 minute log at the end of the broadcast since this broadcast clearly needs to be moved to a different frequency in the 41 meter band to mitigate the co-channel interference.

Strong signal, but impossible RF conditions - Aurora and >600 km/s Solar wind. The log covers most of the last hour.

Almost 90% decoded audio this morning. I also listened to RNZI in AM in the 31 m band, and the extreme Fading was almost gone, seems like the radio weather has improved a bit. Still, SF:166 and A:26 when I'm writing this.
