EBC DRM 9750 khz - 150 watts- Brasilia-DF - Brazil

Testing with DRM on shortwave resumed in Brazil by EBC in the frequency of 9750 kHz (band 31m).

After some research and development of equipment for ABRADIG (Associação Brasileira de Radio Digital), tests were taken in order to assess the behavior of equipment, signal quality and system stability. Because the tests are being carried out at low power (150 W), is not expected great coverage.

Localization: I am located in the City of São José Santa Catarina state, a distance of 1,335 kilometers of Brasilia, south of Brazil, at an angle of 182 degrees from the transmitting antenna.

Last night (Oct 29) a received few minutes of EBC test transmission, and record this video of listen on Morphy Richards 27024.
https://youtu.be/MxdTnHBsnDw
I am 1000 km far from the site of transmission.

Now, Sunday afternoon, a getting some intermittent audio decoding.

Another DRM broadcast with a MSC of 16 QAM on shortwave ... I can hardly believe it! Congratulations... Hopefully, listeners in North America will one day be able to listen to DRM broadcasts in a robust mode from Brazil and other countries in South America.

Hi All

I've seen very faint traces of a DRM signal on 9750 kHz from here in New Zealand the last couple of nights. It's only been barely visible in my SDR display, and too weak to get any sync or decode any id. I emailed Rafael Diniz and he confirms that their transmitter is having the occasional dropouts like I've seen in my reception. So, the signal is getting out :-) Here in NZ it fades in aroud 0630 UTC and is noticeable until blocked at 07:55 UTC. I suspect the antenna direction and signal path are just right at that time - if only there were a few more watts of power or a more perfect ionosphere

Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris,

Yes, according to the VOACAP program (please see attached) you should get at least an S6 signal with a six foot vertical whip!

Congratulations on the excellent DRM DX!!
