Hi Neil,

Thanks for mentioning the international summit on Digital Broadcasting in Nigeria at the beginning of May. I thought it was a good idea to contact someone there, so I wrote to to the engineering people and asked what's up. Here is the answer:

"I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not be delivered to one or more recipients. It's attached below.

<engineering@radionigeria.net> failed: radionigeria.net->MX: 550 No Such User Here"

Later I tried a different mail address:

"I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not
be delivered to one or more recipients. It's attached below.

<programmes@radionigeria.net> failed: radionigeria.net->MX:
550 No Such User Here"

Voice of Nigeria

I have sent Simon Spanswick who is now the chief executive of the Association for International Broadcasters, an email to see if he can make make contact with the VON.

I note that someone called Abubaker Jijiwa, of the Voice of Nigeria is also a member of the AIB Executive Committee, so perhaps this will help?

Hi Terje, I briefly monitored the frequency and likewise, a strong signal was present, but no audio.

Nigeria 15120 kHz reception near Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Yesterday afternoon's reception - 2.42% audio decoded, 11.83 dB max SNR.

As this was an unattended log I don't know if there was any actual audio in the decoding.

2 May 2015 : Voice of Nigeria 15120 kHz

Still no audio!

I got a reply from Simon Spanswick to say that he will be attending the International Summit on Digital Broadcasting in Nigeria in a few days time. He also said that he had alerted the Director of Administration and the special adviser to the Director General about the lack of programme audio on the DRM channel.

After I got this reply from Simon Spanswick, the transmission seemed to be missing completely, and I just thought that they had just turned off the transmitter, but no its back, and certainly on the 2 May, there seemed to be no programme audio.

No Voice of Nigeria

The transmitter was on with co-channel QRM before 18 UTC but disappeared after only 18 minutes of silence.

14 May 2015 : Voice of Nigeria 15120 kHz

After over 4 months of silence it was good to be able to hear audio! And 99% decoded audio, rather than decoded silence!

18:00-21:00 UTC Planetary K-index 1. Local K-index 1.

Planetary A-index: 45. Solar flux: 149. SWPC Sunspot number: 135.
Sunset 19:46 UTC.

I heard some sound here when they started around 18 UTC. The conditions worsened and the log ended when the Doppler rose. The solar wind was around 500 km/s, perhaps that was a factor as well?
