Let's wait and see.
So far every station I saw investing heavy in DRM is/was switching off sooner or later: BBC, DW, SWR (they replaced all transmitters), DLF/DLR until 2016 (Media Broadcast renewed the transmitters for them), WDR, Radio Vatican, RCI, RNW, RTL (cut SW, will switch off MW in 2014), Bulgaria, Romania, ... Then there was this news in izvestia (sorry, in German): http://www.dxaktuell.de/?p=2448 or russian: http://izvestia.ru/news/522272 If true I doubt that one country alone can get things turned around ... |

In case of AIR, even the emergency transmitters already bought and deployed in case of breakdown of permanent equipments are all DRM capable.

While , perhaps India is preparintg technologically to latest standard, there is accute shortage of affordable(to iIndian nationals) DRM enabled receivers.
juat a miro fraction of listening techies and enthusiasts are using the services for hobby sake and mostly using PC interface. As some friends commented, switching on a desktopfor listening a programin drm mode is a luxury. what apower loss. Citizens of most nations need affordable Receivers. i sincerely dont feel that 120$ with additional taxes dities and transport , can be called affordable. All that Indian government is doing is to be in step with technology ront and, i am sure that once cheaper Receivers are out in market, they would start broadcast. all said, for emergency times like natiural disasters etc, AM / FM is the best as of now. AM for loner disatnce and FM as local coverage , with most mobile phones having in built FM Rx. I hope that some mobile maker would come forward making mobile receive DRM signal.

I am afraid that when there will be very cheap radios, they will no longer need. Broadcasting at hight frequencies by the time cease to exist.

I remember you as one man who made drm down conversion from de1103 possible. most others told it is not worth trying with that model.

If true I doubt that one country alone can get things turned around ...
Not jast alone... Brasil http://drm.org/uploads/files/Article...Aug%202012.pdf Russia http://marker.ru/news/529409 (russian) " July 4, 2012 For digital radio in Russia may develop a special concept ....The issue of digital radio will bring to a session of the Government Commission on the development of broadcasting by the end of this year. In the case of a positive decision in the development of the concept is supposed to consider and possibly take into account the views of all interested parties. The purpose of developing the concept - prioritizing development of broadcasting with the latest trends in the music and speech broadcast technologies. The financial component of the work has not been determined, said the ministry. However, it can be assumed that the implementation of the proposed concept will require funding, comparable to what has been previously in the previous version of Federal Program for the Development of TV & Radio Broadcasting up to 2015 ."
