Hi Rafael, hi all,

good catch, thanks for the post! Visible right now here in Germany but no audio at 14 dB SNR max. and strong QRM.

Very short log attached.

I wonder if they have started before 0000 UTC already.

An unattended log. High Doppler suggests that the signal originates far from here. Unfortunately, not enough decoded audio to get an automated screen-shot.

30-31 May log

Well, I managed to get this log started just 5 minutes after hooking up my 'good' antenna outside after moving.

Fairly disrupted during the first hour, but much better after that. Some adjacent channel interference on 9625 at first, but at 0000Z it shifted off for the better.

Nice to have a new one in the same hemisphere!

Smile 31 may - 1 June log

Today's observations: DRM carrier came up at 2346 UTC, no audio was heard until 0005 UTC. It would appear that from 2346 to 0005 the carrier was 1) either running at reduced levels, gradually increasing to full power, or 2) local sunset in Cariari (2350) played a dramatic role in changing the signal strength over the path to my location.

No audio heard after 0200, although the DRM signal was on the air until 0205 UTC. The Dream waterfall at the time was showing an amazing portrait of the ionosphere, with the DRM waveform illuminating all of the adjacent spectrum. I have a screenshot of the waterfall, but it is too big to upload.

Great audio by the way, not many 'digital' artifacts could be heard. The impulse response was running from less than 4ms to just over 5ms.

1-2 June log

Today's notes: Audio started at 2358, ended at 0147. Carrier came up at 2347, and went off-air at 0149. Excellent signal strength while the broadcast was on, any decoding problems were fairly brief.

It would seem as if the Cariari station is somewhat loose about adhering to a schedule.

Hi Terje and all,

Oh, I understand about sleeping all night, yes indeed! I'm with you, and a decent uninterrupted night's sleep is a wonderful thing. At least with the DRM programs available for our use we can do unattended logging. Pity the poor analog types who are still manually logging in the middle of the night. Having done a lot of night-time listening in the past, I no longer feel the need to actually be awake.

For those of you speaking Spanish, there is a report about DRM from Costa Rica on REE's website:

4 - 5 June

Looking at the Doppler, it looks better than the previous nights. But like I said, according to my experience, there will be no decoded audio with Doppler values above 1 Hz with my setup. Zzzzzz. . .

Some weakness in the band last night, and the solar indices were not helping at the time!

Quite good tonight, although once again the band wasn't fully 'ready' at the beginning. It did get better though, was quite excellent for the duration.

Not very reliable today, I suspect the low solar indices are to blame. SF68, A7, K3 as of 0000UTC.

Zyg -

The equipment seems to be a little on the 'wonky' side at Cariari: I've seen the signal vary in strength greatly, cut out like you saw, and otherwise not always exhibit good transmitter practices.

No log for me today: a power failure killed everything and so I went to dinner elsewhere.

Brendan,

Thank you for the info. This evening there did not appear to be a signal on 9630 kHz so I switched over to monitor RNZI to see what their signal on 15720 looks like at this time.

My DRM Logger missed Radio Vatican this evening for some reason. Usually it's my fault when there are logging problems but this time I wasn't sure why it did not start.

Zyg,
my rx was running unattended and there was a signal on 9630 kHz
....and I'm sure my pc clock is ok.
This transmission is scheduled at two in the morning here and I won't stay up that long.
