For nearly all SWLs, I now recommend magnetic loops (H-field) over wire antennas (E-field). Currently, I recommend Messi & Paoloni's Hyperflex 5 coaxial cable for connections between the magnetic loop and receiver as well. Although this solution is fairly expensive, it works well in typical noisy environments. A wide-band magnetic loop will perform nearly as well as any wire antenna from 5 MHz to 30 MHz which is why I recommend SW broadcasters limit their frequencies for international
broadcasts to > ~ 5.5 MHz. BBC, that means YOUR digital broadcast on 3955 kHz from Woofferton should be moved to a higher frequency.
I've wasted significant money arriving at this point to spare the novice from doing likewise.
