China National Radio on 6030 kHz

Hi all,

found this news on DXLD mailing list, posted by Ron Howard from California:

CNR was heard in DRM on 6030 kHz at 0647 UTC with traditional music. See this link for more: http://radio.chobi.net/DX/bbs/?res:731#3351

CNR (China National Radio) will be having DRM tests on 6030 kHz, 24th July onwards at 0100-0800 UTC

According to some insider info. The schedule is from 20:25 to 18:05 (UTC). Main service area is North East China. Central and East China should also get good coverage.

No signal here in Japan because it is broad daylight here at the time of writing (00:20 UTC). I received a weak signal around 0010 UTC with a 0-30 MHz Kiwi SDR at Shenzhen, China. The SNR at that location was about 4-5 dB and no audio.

Mode B / 10 kHz
Interleaver: 400 ms
SDC/MSC: 4/16
Protection: 1/1
Audio: 1/0
Time/Date: Tue Jul 24 08:11 (Chinese local time!)

Digital shortwave done right! Wow!

Now, xHE-AAC please, and possibly a better frequency in the 25 or 31 meter bands.

MARCEL 24-07-2018 08:12

No signal in Northeast FRANCE around 2018.24.7 at 5H00 UTC

Some signal seen here in Shizuoka now around 1030 UTC. Around 7 dB SNR and a steady label.

I'll report later.

My two logs from last night in central Japan. The first log is 2 hours 40 minutes and the second is 3 hours 38 minutes long. There were only a few fragments of decoded audio. The transmission seems to be a mix of talk and music.

The tip-off did not provide the info. about the Tx location. On the other hand, you can detect the whereabouts by conducting HF direction finding via KiWi TDoA. Some enthusiast has applied that technique and successfully captured the CNR Tx site in AM mode.:D

I found a Chinese SDR at OM88co (Hebei), but soon after I started logging it disappeared and now it's no longer on the list at sdr.hu. Grrr.

China DRM 6030 kHz

HFCC lists 6030 kHz Beijing , China, with 100 kW to an omni directional antenna.

Inputting these parameters into VOACAP shows a good signal into Japan from 1000 - 2200 UTC. However HFCC listed transmission time is 2025 - 1805 UTC.

Christopher on the DRMNA Forum reported a marginal signal (no audio, but screen ID) at 1430 UTC on the NW coast of the USA which agrees with VOACAP prediction.

Received at 13.00 UTC CNR DRM test transmission on 6030khz via SDR receiver at RU/ROCCN (Russia, Khabarovsk) with several audio interruptions.

My log from this evening: Max. 13,57 dB SNR and 2,94% decoded audio. An audio snippet is enclosed. Only a few seconds because of the size limitations of this Forum.

The title in the Gospell became "????". Any comments?

KiwiSDR TDoA China 6030 kHz

Just tried out the very neat KiwiSDR TDoA direction finding feature on the China 6030 kHz transmitter.

Using fixes from 1 Russian, 2 Japanese, and 2 Chinese KiwiSDR web receivers the result is shown in the Attachment.

The forum file size limitation restricted the attachment size.
