KiwiSDR direction finding via TDoA puts the transmitter somewhere in the Alps of SE Switzerland near the border of NW Italy at approximately 46.35 deg N, 9.70 deg E.

MARCEL 25-08-2018 21:02

Interesting, 'cos at the time I was trying to DF the signal the spectrum looked like normal 10 kHz DRM.

Marcel's SODIRA scan also shows a normal type DRM signal but perhaps 9 kHz or a little less wide.

In fact Marcel's screen ID does show B/10 kHz as the Mode/Bandwidth (see attachment).

Owdjim 26-08-2018 02:15

They were 10 kHz bw until 00:00 UTC, then 5 kHz.

Also noted on KiwiSDRs in Sardinia & Ireland.

Cheers, Chris

Although the KiwiSDR TDoA shows the transmitter location as Switzerland, the Principality of Liechtenstein is only 30 or so kilometers to the north and close enough to the DF circles, to make that country host to the transmitter site!

Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein, is known as a big financial center is only 80 km from the DF'd location.

Nous devrons attendre et à voire...

Perhaps it is time to go out in Switzerland and look for cell towers with Log-periodic antennas, microwave links, and discarded cardboxes?!

MARCEL 15-09-2018 07:15

I think Bern Radio closed down some time ago, didn't it? At least German Wikipedia notes it stopped operation in March 2016 but no word about what happened to the antennas.

MARCEL 27-09-2018 07:31

I have strong DRM signal this morning, signal is curious, DC Frequency of DRM Signal is variable from 6800 hz to 9046 hz.

Don't know if you've successfully decoded the FAC/SDC stream. I noticed their signal spectrum has to be flipped to be recognized properly by Dream in contrast to other broadcasters.Their SNR plot across the 10KHz BW also shows distinctive triangular shape even there is no interference present, which indicate poor TX calibration.
