View Full Version : VoR on 0693 kHz
Hi all,
Voice of Russia now on 693 kHz from Oranienburg in Simulcast-Mode.
See screenshot.

Dream says 4.5 khz in QAM 64, that means you need a relative high SNR for just 11 kbps. the anolgue signal is quite good audible here in Frankfurt. Much stronger than the english service on this QRG. But no DRM Audio, because I only get 10 dB SNR. But you don't hear the typical DRM noise.

I can see and almost hear it at the dutch border.
Screenshots taken around 22:30 UTC, SNR was once peaking 14dB.

Maybe I was a little late tonight.
Here a short report from last night.

A hint to receive VoR on 693
I tune my radio 2 kHz off from center frequency. Thus I can use the 6 kHz filter. See attachment
In the log of my next post you can see during the last 6 minutes
5 minutes with the radio tuned to 693 and 10 kHz filter, last
minutes 695 and 6 kHz filter.

Again with attachment

On this frequency it is a good opportunity to compare
analogue and digital reception. I can listen to the analogue signal also during daylight but no DRM signal decoded. During
nighttime the analogue audio is quite good, DRM is better
but still a lot of drop out inspite of a S9 + signal.
Bernd, Df9RB
Hi,
Rather good propagation tonight. 782 km distance and 10 dB SNR, no audio - yet.
Am I correct in assuming that the DRM signal is in the upper sideband?

Signal was quite good in the beginning, I was too late.
Shame that no one in the UK will get 693 due to BBC Radio 5's very powerful transmitters on the same frequency :-(

That transmitter is located near Berlin, too far away for a good signal in GB, and 693kHz an old Radio5 frequency anyway.

Not even at night time ? When I say Radio 5 I mean Five Live as it is called now. Do you not get a good signal at night from Five Live ?

No, not even at nighttime. My location is about half way between London and Berlin.
This morning no good results.

Attached 693kHz AM audio at local sunrise here at the dutch border.
The drm noise and the lady are VoR, BBC somewhere in the background.
Download with a rightclick and rename it to .mp3.
Hi all,
I installed temporary (until the mayor will complain - the wire is over public grassland to a tree) a 200 m longwire. My first test now was VoR. The signal is 20 dB stronger than the loop. For the first time audio was decodeable for longer periods,

Aaah, me see, a typical standard listener's drm antenna! :D   ;)
Hi all,
not a pleasure even the signal is S9

...not much on the T-antenna here tonight.
Audio only for a few minute
Bernd, DF9RB
Hi all,
good decoding but bad audio quality (both AM and DRM), see attachment

Here is my first log of this frequency. I will try different filters next time.

Played a little with the DREAM Hamlib for the DRT1 and found a "forgotten" signal. The shifted PSD display looks quite funny for simulcast.

Not good with the static noise from thunderstorms:
Reception for some minutes ok. I notched out the AM-carrier which improves the the SNR despite a much worse looking PSD (the lowered PSD towards the carrier)
Bernd, DF9RB
Hi,
last night I tried the impossible. Too much interference to get any audio. Also the analogue signal was drowned by lots of other signals.
Main interferer of course was BBC, which could made better audible by some shifting of the receiver's PBT function.
Can anybody tell me, in which language they broadcast this time (22:00 to 23:00 UTC) ? I heard arabian speech and oriental music, and I am not sure, whether it was the analogue signal of VoR, or another interferer, e.g. RTA Algier

Hi all,
nearly perfect today. 99.5 % audio for nearly one hour.

27.08.2005 Voice of Russia, no DRM decoding (in attachments - ID, input spectrum, input LSB mode for analog transmission and DRMCalc log - max.SNR 11.4dB), received yesterday in Jurkalne - coast of the sea, 60km to the north from Liepaja)
Really strong signal tonight. Good reception. Maybe they give a bit more power now.
VoR is quite strong today. I compared good old AM with DRM from VoR. AM sonds better!!! than DRM in simulcast. The DRM-noise is quite low in AM, using LSB the DRM-noise is quite high audible in the analogue modulation.
Bernd, DF9RB
Quite good today until 90 minutes after sunrise.

Result with the wire antenna.
Audio is worse than telefone quality.
Hi all,
some audio today....

Audio for some minutes.
Antenna was not a yagi..... it was the ALA1530

Bad quality audio as always.
Hi all.
Small signal from new freq. in MW Stimme Russlands . No log only picture.
Are you sure this is a new signal?

A little in bad audio quality was coming through while standing in a tailback and driving around Bad Oeynhausen.
