View Full Version : Bouquet Flevo NL on 7240 kHz
The new frequency from Flevo is performing much better here in Belgium than the previous 9815 kHz.
Reception is not yet 100% but I assume some smaller modifications are possible.
We are really pleased with this new choice of frequency, because it should be an improvement for the TDPradio broadcast on Saturdays!
Ludo
Also in the second hour, reception is quite reliable.
Ludo
During the third hour, reception is still quite acceptable, but not perfect yet with 88% decoded audio.
Ludo
In the fourth hour, there are more dropouts then in previous hours, but overall still much better than the old 9815 kHz.
By the way, the announcement of the language in the text message was wrong, stating German instead of English in the last half hour.
Ludo
The reception quality of the fifth hour was again less than the previous hour for the programming of RCI and Radio Netherlands. Only 66% correctly decoded audio.
Ludo
During the last quarter (from 1500-1515 UTC) the signal further decreased in strength for the German program of Vatican Radio.
Ludo
Hi all,
the new frequency makes reception of the Flevo DRM Bouquet possible in Frankfurt. Quite good reception and good sound quality.
Hi all,
about 90% decoded audio during the 5th hour, as always lower audio levels than any other station, see attachment
@Ludo: It was not RCI programming (I was not home but I just listened to my recording) as it had been announced but again CBC :( , I hope this was just a mistake today or they could not make the changes in time and we will hear RCI in the future on this transmission.

Hi Simone,
It was indeed CBC (the announcement in the beginning mentioned CBC), but we did not make the distinction between CBC and RCI, they are in the same house, so to say.
Ludo
The new frequency from Flevo is not as good as 9815 kHz here in Poland.
At least today (it is my first reception on the new frequency).
Today from 13:55 till 14:55UTC, audio was 91% whilst it was usually 100% for 9815 kHz.
Hi all,
quite good when I started, but later a weaker signal and an AM interference from the adjacent channel below, see attachment
73, Simone
Hi all,
bad results today, see attachment
73, Simone
Hi all,
better results than yesterday, dropouts caused by interference from the adjacent channel below, see attachment
Progam is still from CBC but text message reads: You are listening to Radio Canada International in English, (www.rcinet.ca)
73, Simone
Hi all,
quite good results in the afternoon with 99% correctly decoded audio during RCI/CBC´s broadcast, see attachment
73, Simone
For 3 hours perfect reception. Only my local noise caused one long dropout.
Hi all,
perfect results like Carsten but only until the start of RCI/ CBC´s broadcast :(, see attachment
73, Simone
Hi all,
quite good for 20 min today, see attachment
73, Simone
Log over 4 hours. 93% Audio. Quite good reception in SW Germany.
Daniel
Log over 5 hours with 98.1 percent audio. I'm not quite sure what these regular deep dropouts caused, because It was an automatically log. I guess that it was my strong local noise. Quite otfen today:-(
Hi all,
Good reception conditions today. 99.9% audio.
Hi all,
results were not as good as earlier today on this frequency.
Glad they managed to get RCI´s great programs (today it was the science and technology program) on :)!
73, Simone
Hi DRMs,
here are a 90 minutes logfile from Flevo on 7240 kHz.
regards, Michael
Hi all,
audio decoding was not perfect, but no problem for listening to RCI.
73, Simone
Hi,
here is a comparison report using the penultimate and the ultimate CVS-version of Dream with "Mod. Metric" activated on the latter.
This feature is supposed to improve decoding in the presence of interference.
Quite a good result with slightly better percentage of properly decoded audio with "Mod. Metric" activated.
The SNR plots are exactly above each other, so only one can be seen.

Good signal today:
Hi all,
only a few dropouts today, see attachment
73, Simone
Hi all,
reception on this frequency was great until 1300, but as often some problems after 1400,see attachment
Today with increased bitrate (20.06 kb/s) and UEP (coderates 0.5/0.6)
73, Simone
Hi all,
excellent results until 1300, later good for testing UEP, see attachment
73, Simone
Hi,
here is a short report.
Roland
Hi all,
during the dropouts on RCI´s broadcst the effect of UEP could be noticed a coluple of times, sounded similar to the examples which I already mentioned in General Topics the past days.
73, Simone
Hi all,
bad results due to a weak signal and interferences, see attachment

At the dutch border I'm too close and there was adjacent channel interference. I tuned 0.5kHz to the side to attenuate the carrier, helped a little.
Weak signal plus fading today. No fun listening to B Flevo ;-(
Daniel
Hi all,
quite a difference in audio decoding between DRMSWR and DReaM, see comparison attached
73, Simone
Find attached my unattended log for Bouqet Flevo (Weather is too sunny to stay inside ;-) . Good SNR till 13h00. Than lot of dropouts.

Here is my log. Very good reception.
Lot of droputs this afternoon

Daniel
Hi all,
several dropouts during RCI´s broadcast, UEP settings have been changed, now using 10% , see attachment
73, Simone
Hi all,
some dropouts again today, see attachment
73, Simone
Hi all,
either perfect or really bad at times, see attachment

Hi all,
some dropouts this afternoon, not too bad overall, see attachment

Hi Simone, all,
Thanks for this comment. Good to hear that this new UEP settings don't seem to make things worse although I also wonder if the spring conditions have an effect on the target area.
BTW: The coderate is even 0.78 instead of 0.71
73!
Jan Peter
Hi all,
the new settings worked quite well this afternoon, pretty good results, see attachment
In the morning propagation conditions were too bad to get good audio decoding, hope that will improve in the summer.
73, Simone
Hi all,
good results for about 3 hours today, see attachment
73, Simone
Hi all,
only a short period with audio decoding this afternoon, see attachment
73, Simone
Hi all,
no problem for listening to RCI´s broadcast with both software decoders this afternoon, see attachment
73, Simone
A little shaky due to the high bitrate. Dream's MSC indicator was blinking in yellow from time to time, but audio was not audibly interrupted.
Roland
Hi all,
surprisingly good reception whenever I tuned in today, see 160 min report attached
73, Simone
Flevo 8h00-12h00
Hi all,
quite weak signal here from Flevo (S5-S9) with fading. No fun listening to Flevo this morning.
73
Daniel
They should use the 49m band in sommer.
Hi Carsten,
I think we have to accept that we are not in the main target area with this configuration. But the UEP settings they are currently using are quite interesting, allowing good listening with a high bitrate at a relatively low SNR (whenever we get a signal ;))
73, Simone
Quite good result from Flevo from 11h00 to 12h00

Hi all,
First attempt receiving this Tx, quite weak signal here and slow fading. No listening this rainy morning.
John
Not bad with a bit of fading.
Roland
Hi,
today, the signal from Flevo was stronger than the one from Rampisham.
Good reception. Dream's MSC CRC indicator flickered yellow occasionally but there were no audible effects from that.
Roland
Again a strong signal from Flevo. Bitrate is a bit too high for my setup, I guess a somewhat lower bitrate would yield a better result.
Flevo's audio level is still not up to that of others.
Roland
Hi all,
quite good conditions from Flevo during RCI´s broadcast today, see attachment showing comparison of two versions of Dream (using different versions of the FAAD2 library)

Here are my results with a comparision between Dream and DRMSWR.
Hi all,
good conditions today until 1345 (btw not using the latest FAAD2), see attachment

Very disappointing results and also very annoying gargle sound. Perhaps a lower bitrate would be better. Look at the log.
John
Hi all,
perfect results, high SNR using the DWT (and old FAAD2 but only very few effects from UEP), good audioquality with the current configuration, unfortunately the frequency does not always work in my area :(
73, Simone
Hi all,
good results again today, see attachment

Hi,
here, absolutely no signal can be received today on the scheduled transmission starting at 09:00 UTC.
Is the schedule wrong?
Is the dead zone that large?
Is there a technical problem?

Hi Roland,
Yes you're right. There was no transmission until about 1040 UTC but I have to figure out what has happened.

Jan Peter
Hi,
not a bad result considering the high bitrate and the SNR limit of my receiver.
Roland
Hi all,
strong signal again this morning, good results using the DWT, no problem with the high bitrate and only very few effects from UEP, see attachment
73, Simone
Hi all,
seems we are just not allowed to listen to RCI´s broadcast, no audio decoding at all during this period :(
73, Simone
Hi all,
no problem to listen to RCI today in SouthEastern Switzerland using the Sony SW 7600GR/telescopic antenna (98% correctly decoded audio)
73, Simone
Hi all,
good results for about an hour this morning, see attachment
73, Simone
Hi all,
some periods with high SNR using the DWT as always, but never really reliable in my location, see attachment
73, Simone
Hi all,
bad things can happen, when you are too near to the border of the dead zone! Fair reception in the morning, coming to an abrupt end in the afternoon - see attached

Hi all,
quite good results today, also audio levels have improved
73, Simone
Hi all,
good signal but some dropouts today (without UEP decoder), listening with FhG SWR was better than the graph looks.

Hi all,
strong and stable signal today, great results (using UEP version) see attachment

strong and stable signal from Flevo

Hi all,
quite good again today, see attachment
Simone
Hi all,
this configuration with the high bitrate and using UEP is the most interesting for testing the different decoders, slightly better results with DReaM but better for listening using the FhG decoder.
Simone
Hi all,
strong signal at the beginning of the log, but as often signal got weaker with the start of RCI´s broadcast, see attachment
Simone
Hi all,
not bad today, results with a version of DReaM lthat supports UEP look much better than those from DRMSWR, but for listening the FhG decoder is better, see comparison attached
Simone
Audio graph from FhG Radio looks terrible, but listening was moslty good with help of UEP. But there was a lot of noise and hiss in the background.
Hi all,
quite good in the first hour, a weaker signal from 1400- 1500, as always on UEP transmission the graph looks worse than it sounds when listening
Simone

Hi John
Thanks for this report.
Interesting to see that the adjacent channel station is so strong in Greece. For a more realistic prediction of the DRM coverage I need to include this AM-station within the calculations to get an S/I plot.

Hi all,
Actually there are three (?) interfering carriers.
@ Peter: On 7235 kHz until 15H00 is VOA at a level 5-15 dB over DRM, on 7245 kHz before and after 15H00 there are two carriers with Arabic (?) language at 0-10 dB level over DRM. I suspect that in the middle of DRM spectrum there is a third one hidden and sometimes it appears about 5 dB over DRM. All these make the reception really problematic, although the signal is quite strong.
See the attached file.
John.
PS:Now at 16H25 there is a carrier on 7245 kHz which is more than 20 dB over DRM.

One hour with a weak signal, quite good for the rest of the time.
Simone
Not too bad today.
Simone
Very good in the first half.

Simone
Great results today, still low SNR from the Tx.
Simone
Strong and stable signal today.
Simone
It seems the Tx problems have been solved, SNR has improved again.
Simone
Started good, later signal was too weak.
Simone
A weak signal at the beginning, then quite good results for about 2hours.
Simone
Good results apart form 2 big dropouts when driving home from Leipzig.
Simone
Quite good results in the last 2 hours after a weak period earlier today, SNR lower than it used to be.
Simone
Quite good results this afternoon.
Simone
Not bad this afternoon, even at times when signal strenght was lower.
Simone
Quite good except the last minutes.

Hi all,
Regarding the log in post #150.
How can be explained that max SNR=25.7 dB, average SNR=26.0 dB and the SNR rms error=0 ? Is it a DRMCalc calculation error ? Is it because a 3 mins only log ?
@Carsten what is your opinion ?
The signal from Flevo on this frequency here is always strong ,
between S 9+20 to 40db
Only Co-Channel AM-Station produce errors.
As always not reliable here, but better than the past weeks when I hardly got any decoding.
