The entire day for CBC yesterday. Not bad, I just wish they could find someone to fill in the hole in the afternoon that is missing. :o
Brendan1
29-01-2010, 23:34
Two parts; I missed getting set up in time for the morning show...
Brendan1
31-01-2010, 00:13
One day, one log. Pretty dang good if I may say so. :D
Brendan1
01-02-2010, 01:08
A little short, as I didn't set the logger up right.
Brendan1
03-02-2010, 00:11
Not bad today, but there are quite a number of hits showing.
Brendan1
04-02-2010, 00:29
Another good day here in the (very wet) desert.
Brendan1
05-02-2010, 02:51
Foggy today, no more rain. The reception was still excellent!
Brendan1
06-02-2010, 16:01
Another nice day, radio wise.
Brendan1
07-02-2010, 02:19
RCI appears to have had an outage at around 1900; I noticed that afterward their signal was quite weak for a time. It seemed like they were only putting out partial power, as the waterfall showed only a trace of the usual signal. :(
Brendan1
07-02-2010, 23:57
Yesterdays' outage may have been a radio blackout, as the propagation reports indicated that some did occur during the day.
No such occurrence today. :)
Brendan1
08-02-2010, 23:57
Once again, very good reception.
Brendan1
10-02-2010, 02:04
Still good. :)
Brendan1
12-02-2010, 02:49
A truncated log so I could log TDP/DiscoPalace in the early afternoon. For not having my antenna pointed towards Sackville, the log came out rather well.
Brendan1
12-02-2010, 23:32
The morning was pretty good, although what looks like a solar disruption occurred at around 1804.
Brendan1
14-02-2010, 02:13
This morning's log. More than a few dips in the Frames Rate, but overall quite good.

14-02-2010, 21:45
Hi all,
Vatican Radio from Canada. Not bad for 24 mins.
Brendan1
15-02-2010, 00:31
Two parts, which is how it will be for now, because of TDP/DP in between. I've got 30 minutes of VR at the beginning of the second log.
Brendan1
15-02-2010, 23:37
Only the morning I'm afraid. The afternoon session was lost when my logger tried to do two broadcasts at once and nearly wiped them both out. I have no idea what happened either, as the times did not overlap and nothing else was set wrong. Oh well. :(
Brendan1
18-02-2010, 01:05
Nothing for yesterday I'm afraid: Dream crashed and I got nothing at all.
Today was much better, and conditions were quite good.
Brendan1
19-02-2010, 00:09
Excellent propagation again today.
Brendan1
20-02-2010, 00:37
CBC Sackville had some problems getting their TX going today. It kept trying for about 20 minutes, and then finally succeeded. The afternoon log shows a shorter delay to the start, so they were/are having some problems.
Good logs otherwise.
Brendan1
21-02-2010, 00:49
Not bad today, just the now 'usual' little blips of changing propagation. No DRM exciter problems today. :)
Brendan1
21-02-2010, 23:42
Quite good today, there are some little dips in the second log that look like the transmitter may have briefly faltered.
The dip in the SNR at the end of the first log is due to me turning the antenna towards Montsinery, not because of anything else. ;)
Brendan1
23-02-2010, 00:00
Pretty good today, no TX problems seen.
Brendan1
26-02-2010, 23:46
Dream didn't crash today, YAY! I may have fixed the problem, but I still have to experiment a little to be absolutely sure.
Excellent propagation today too, very nice logs.
Brendan1
28-02-2010, 01:00
Dream crashed right in front of me. I wasn't logging any of the local NA broadcasts yet, so those logs came out okay once I restarted Dream. There is something between 0700 and 0900 local that does not like Dream to be actively logging, and it causes Dream to crash. Dream and DRM Logger can be setup and waiting, and it won't crash - but to have it logging, no way.
The curious gap in decoding was a result of only the FAC having any active data. The SDC and MSC were both "locked up," and no data was being sent during that time.
Very good yet again, otherwise.
Brendan1
28-02-2010, 23:35
Last day of the month, and the logging was great.
Brendan1
02-03-2010, 00:18
Solid copy today.
Brendan1
02-03-2010, 23:42
Very good today. Still, the very infrequent blips are still showing up, and this is on all Sackville broadcasts that I log. TX?
Brendan1
03-03-2010, 23:38
Very nice again, no complaints here. ;)
Brendan1
04-03-2010, 23:38
Great logs today.
Brendan1
06-03-2010, 15:27
Nice and steady conditions yesterday (which lately has been every day).
Brendan1
07-03-2010, 00:01
Good logs today. In the second part, it appears that Sackville kept the transmitter on during the normal off-air period.
Brendan1
07-03-2010, 23:35
So easy to log, it's almost boring... ;)
Brendan1
09-03-2010, 00:34
Only the afternoon I'm afraid: too busy logging the Disco Palace test in the morning... :)
Brendan1
09-03-2010, 23:42
Good as gold, that's Sackville! Wonderful propagation today.
Brendan1
11-03-2010, 00:09
There is a pipeline for the RF between myself and Sackville. :)
Brendan1
11-03-2010, 23:43
Once again, no complaints.
Brendan1
12-03-2010, 23:34
Some propagation issues after 1800, but the disruption didn't last, thank goodness.
Brendan1
13-03-2010, 23:49
Excellent conditions again today.
Brendan1
14-03-2010, 23:53
Pretty good once again, although there is a curious spike in RF during the afternoon 'off-air' period.
Brendan1
16-03-2010, 00:13
Excellent logs today. Now that North America has started 'Daylight Savings Time,' it appears that RCI is now starting at 1505UTC. I was getting set up for 1605 today and they were already on air at 1555, not something they do for the fun of it. I'll confirm if this is true tomorrow.
Brendan1
16-03-2010, 23:37
Okay, I've confirmed that RCI is now starting their programming on 9800 at 1505 UTC, so this is an additional hour added to the existing schedule. I managed to get up a little later today (it's school spring holidays) so I missed (forgot) the first half hour for the log.
Quite good as always today.
Hi,
This transmission from Sackville managed to reach Northern Europe as well.
At 21:00 UTC I had a good signal with perfect audio. However at 21;17 few traces of the signal was left. Anyway my first catch of this transmission to NA ;)
Brendan1
18-03-2010, 00:36
A nice long log today, with excellent reception. The longer morning period shows just how good propagation was today.
Brendan1
18-03-2010, 23:36
Stellar reception today!
mitajohn
19-03-2010, 21:43
Hi all,
Good results for 10 mins then the signal degraded and affected decoding.
Brendan1
20-03-2010, 03:05
Good reception again, but the afternoon log was cut rather short: Bob, one of the resident cats, decided to attempt to rub on the power cord to my UPS. This act jiggled the cord in the outlet, which due to extreme age, was not holding the plug in very well. The UPS, due to a now-bad battery, is best described as a 'Interruptible Power Supply,' and is only serving as a big multiple outlet strip with filters. Thus he caused the computer to reboot, and killing Dream, the logger, email, and so on.
End result: the cats' okay, the computer is okay, the outlet was replaced with new one, but the log was cut short. :)
An interesting series of events, but it is the truth I tell you! :o
Brendan1
20-03-2010, 23:49
Some variable propagation today, so not-so-perfect.
I'm using a new USB sound card now, and that may account for some of the dips in the frames rate and signal. I have found that turning the volume knob on the sound card changes Dreams' reception, badly, so I must leave it alone while logging/listening.
(and Bob tried chewing the power cords again today - no re-boots for him! :D )
FritzWue
20-03-2010, 23:57
(and Bob tried chewing the power cords again today - no re-boots for him! :D )
Shortwave reception is a real challenge...sometimes :D
Brendan1
21-03-2010, 00:01
Hi Fritz,
I have to kick him out of the shack a lot. He wants to chew too many cords, coax, power supply cords, anything that's slightly rubbery. His sister chewed off one earbud from my cellphone, but she's not so persistent as he.
Who would have thought the cats would be against SW so much?
Brendan1
22-03-2010, 00:20
Only the morning period today. Dream crashed later while I was away from the QTH, and I lost the afternoon session.
Brendan1
23-03-2010, 23:37
Nothing for the 22nd: another Dream crash...less than 5 minutes after I walked out the door. :(
Today, things went better, although it looks like there were some propagation issues early in the morning session.
mitajohn
25-03-2010, 23:37
Hi all,
A result for 50 mins. Not bad.
Brendan1
25-03-2010, 23:46
Not bad today, looks like there was a small outage just after 1700. And I think propagation was a little shaky too!
Brendan1
27-03-2010, 00:25
Very good, except that it looks like propagation is not so steady at the beginning of the morning log.
Brendan1
28-03-2010, 04:56
I used my smaller loop antenna today, so the spotty reception is not necessarily due to any real problems with Sackville or my DRM equipment.
Propagation did seem to be off though, as I was using the big loop antenna to monitor the ham bands and it wasn't so good there either.
Brendan1
28-03-2010, 23:09
Good conditions today - very nice reception.
Brendan1
30-03-2010, 03:15
Somebody forgot to set their alarm clock today: not a very good beginning to the day, but once they got on the air it went well.
Brendan1
31-03-2010, 02:16
Conditions took some time to settle down in the morning, but that didn't really last very long. No 'bad starts' either. :)
Brendan1
01-04-2010, 01:20
Very nice again, although the first hour is still tough.
Brendan1
02-04-2010, 00:47
Nice today, but then, when is it ever horrid? :)
Brendan1
03-04-2010, 03:09
The dropping sunspot numbers didn't help today, although for the most part it was still pretty good.
Brendan1
03-04-2010, 23:10
Better today, even the first hour was pretty good.
Brendan1
05-04-2010, 00:47
Some periods of shifting propagation today during the morning, but excellent nevertheless.
Brendan1
06-04-2010, 03:06
Not very good reception in the morning hours here, but the afternoon turned out much better. Probably the G3 magnetic storms today... :(
Brendan1
07-04-2010, 01:16
The morning was fairly disrupted, but the afternoon (like yesterday) was much better. Blame the G2 level solar storms.
Brendan1
08-04-2010, 02:07
Much better today, although not without some errors here and there.
Brendan1
09-04-2010, 00:57
Well, the morning was fairly spoiled as far as reception was concerned, but the afternoon was definitely better. :o
Brendan1
09-04-2010, 23:02
Once again the morning was not very good while the afternoon was excellent.
Brendan1
10-04-2010, 23:58
Even the morning was quite good today.
Brendan1
12-04-2010, 01:51
Quite excellent today, no problems at all.
Brendan1
13-04-2010, 00:35
Well, the high A index killed the morning session. The afternoon was excellent however.
Brendan1
14-04-2010, 00:35
Much better today, still with some disruption in the morning, but not bad overall.
Brendan1
15-04-2010, 00:51
A poor morning's reception, but the afternoon was excellent. I'll blame the sun's activity. ;)
Brendan1
16-04-2010, 01:38
The morning was still a little disturbed but it settled down. The afternoon was excellent, again. ;)
Brendan1
17-04-2010, 00:42
Cyclic wave propagation hit this morning's log, and left before the afternoon arrived.
Brendan1
17-04-2010, 23:30
A terrible morning; excellent afternoon. The low solar flux of 74, A:2, and K:1 are not helping at all.
mitajohn
18-04-2010, 22:43
Hi all,
Good signal from RCI tonight until 21:30 when QRM started and killed DRM.
Brendan1
18-04-2010, 23:26
John - you should see what the morning looked like: :( The afternoon session was still very good here.
Brendan1
20-04-2010, 01:09
Most of the morning was not very good, but it settled down and was quite steady through the afternoon.
Brendan1
22-04-2010, 00:47
Today was quite good. Dream crashed yesterday, so no logs unfortunately.
Brendan1
23-04-2010, 23:10
Other commitments last night kept me from posting then. :o
Morning not-so-good, afternoon great.
Brendan1
23-04-2010, 23:11
Today the morning session was not very good at all, but the afternoon was rock solid.
Brendan1
25-04-2010, 01:02
Once again the morning was not so good, while the afternoon was excellent. I sense a trend here...:o
Brendan1
26-04-2010, 00:48
Great reception, both morning and afternoon today.
Brendan1
27-04-2010, 00:46
A not-so-good morning, and a fantastic afternoon (as usual ;) )
If the channel is free, it is possible to listen to RCI. If it is not, well - no chance.
Brendan1
28-04-2010, 00:34
Well, the morning was perfectly lousy. The afternoon was perfect. It would be nice if it was all perfect...
Brendan1
29-04-2010, 00:38
The general trend continues: not-so-good morning, excellent afternoon. The "good" mornings are now rather scarce.
Brendan1
30-04-2010, 02:21
The PC crashed today - only part of the morning was logged, and it was so-so. :(
Brendan1
01-05-2010, 00:14
No crashes today - two full logs.
Brendan1
02-05-2010, 00:30
The morning was terrible! The afternoon was excellent! I wish the ionosphere would make up its' mind... :(
Brendan1
02-05-2010, 23:35
The morning was still rather poor, but the afternoon was rock solid. Looks like the transmitter may have had some trouble in the morning as well.
Brendan1
04-05-2010, 00:43
The 'new' same old, same old: lousy morning, near flawless afternoon.
Brendan1
05-05-2010, 00:35
Worst morning log in a very long time. The afternoon was excellent.
Brendan1
06-05-2010, 01:18
A repeat of yesterday, and also what looks like a short transmitter failure in the morning segment.
Brendan1
07-05-2010, 00:35
A much better morning segment today, and the afternoon remained excellent.
Brendan1
08-05-2010, 00:36
Only a brief period today - began trying to log Sao Paolo on 26 MHz today. :o
Brendan1
09-05-2010, 23:38
Three parts today, mostly because I didn't set up DRM Logger correctly.
The first hour is very noticeably interfered with a CRI broadcast (in English!) that is co-channel with Sackville. This has been going on since the seasonal switch, and it guarantees unsuccessful reception of the CBC for that time slot.
Brendan1
09-05-2010, 23:39
Here is part three of today's log, the afternoon portion.
Brendan1
11-05-2010, 00:38
Very nice reception after 1800 in the morning, and the afternoon was near perfect. I think the co-channel interference is continuing until then, but I won't have the opportunity to check until Friday.
Brendan1
12-05-2010, 01:06
Excellent today, except for the first hour - when I know that CRI English is co-channel. Must be the solar indices. :)
Brendan1
13-05-2010, 01:35
The morning was back to the blahs, but the afternoon stayed excellent.
Brendan1
14-05-2010, 01:00
Looks like the morning wasn't too bad, but it was probably a little rough to listen to. Afternoon: no problem!
Brendan1
15-05-2010, 01:29
The morning was rather poor again, and there was a period when the power supply for the antenna was not connecting, which I marked.
The afternoon shows the first signs of poor propagation in a very long time.
Brendan1
15-05-2010, 23:06
A lot of variable propagation in the morning, the afternoon had only a couple of small dropouts.
Brendan1
17-05-2010, 00:53
The same routine: not-so-good morning, pretty good afternoon. Looks like the transmitter took a little dip during the afternoon however.
Brendan1
18-05-2010, 00:42
While the morning is still better than 90%, I'd hate to listen with all the dropouts there are. The afternoon would have been much easier.
Brendan1
19-05-2010, 02:07
Terrible morning. :( Great afternoon. :D
Brendan1
21-05-2010, 01:39
Totally messed up yesterday, the 19th, by not setting the logger correctly.
Today I was functioning better: terrible morning, great afternoon. It looks like the afternoon had a transmitter problem in the first few minutes.
Brendan1
21-05-2010, 23:38
Some transmitter issues this afternoon: it seems to be dropping the carrier somewhat, but recovering quickly.
What can I say, the morning was not very good at all. It also looks like there may have been some transmitter problems too, but with the SNR dipping so much, it's not easy to tell.
Brendan1
23-05-2010, 01:53
A now typical day: terrible morning, excellent afternoon. :o
Brendan1
23-05-2010, 23:16
Morning: same. Afternoon: same. I sure wish the morning would get better.
This will be my last for a least a week as I relocate back to my old QTH temporarily in order to move here permanently. The next log will be from Washington state.
Brendan1
01-06-2010, 00:39
Not very good today: reception here at 48-45N 122-31W was extremely poor both in the morning and afternoon.
Brendan1
02-06-2010, 00:43
It is apparent the shift in locations has greatly changed my reception of RCI. Two days running, and neither day has been very good at all.
Brendan1
03-06-2010, 00:33
Fairly weak today, and we've even had some lightning adding to the mix as well.
Brendan1
03-06-2010, 23:41
Very poor again.
Brendan1
06-06-2010, 02:33
Poor again.
Brendan1
06-06-2010, 02:34
Due to other events, only logged the afternoon today. Still poor.
Brendan1
07-06-2010, 03:04
The morning is showing some improvement, although it is far from perfect yet. The afternoon today was not very steady at all. Solar numbers: SF 70, A7, K3.
Brendan1
08-06-2010, 00:07
A nice burst of RCI in the morning. The afternoon shows some definite 'wave' effects on propagation, with the signal fading in and out several times.
Today's solar numbers: SF69, A6, K2. These are taken from the US NOAA Space Weather Center via the internet.
Brendan1
08-06-2010, 23:57
The morning and afternoon are shifting character: the morning is now better than the afternoon! SF72, A5, K1.
Brendan1
09-06-2010, 23:54
The momentum has definitely changed towards the morning being the best time period now. SF72, A3, K1 today.
Brendan1
10-06-2010, 23:44
The morning was not so good for the SNR; the afternoon however was even worse. SF73, A5, K1.
Brendan1
12-06-2010, 02:47
Propagation continues to vary quite a bit. SF75, A5, K2.
Brendan1
13-06-2010, 00:57
Once again, propagation wasn't very good. :(
SF76, A3, K2.
mitajohn
13-06-2010, 22:26
Hi all,
It started promising but after 21:11 strong co-channel QRM killed DRM.
Brendan1
13-06-2010, 23:07
Hi John,
No co-channel here this afternoon, just not-so-good propagation. It eventually did start to get better, but only towards the end. :o
The morning showed increasing signal levels, but not enough for decoding.
SF76, A5, K2 - and the higher A level is most likely what affected propagation.
Brendan1
15-06-2010, 00:00
I'm actually starting to feel optimistic: slowly, the signal levels for both the morning and afternoon seem to be improving. Not enough for easy listening, but better than just a few days ago. :o
SF73, A5, K1.
Brendan1
16-06-2010, 18:35
Other commitments kept me from posting yesterday.
Better signal strength all around yesterday, although today looks quite weak so far. :(
Brendan1
16-06-2010, 23:50
Rather mixed results today: the SF has changed from 70 - 72, the A index from 10 to 18, and the K index is now 3. Reception in the morning was abysmal, yet the afternoon had a nice but all-too-brief full-decode period. :(
Brendan1
19-06-2010, 03:15
For listening purposes yesterday was not so good. On the bright side, the signal strength is definitely increasing, albeit rather slowly.
Brendan1
19-06-2010, 03:16
Much the same: not so good for listening, but it looks promising. :o
Brendan1
22-06-2010, 00:43
Poor during the morning broadcast, but the afternoon was the best in quite some time.
Brendan1
23-06-2010, 00:34
Reception is much the same: mixed. SF73, A5, K1.
Brendan1
23-06-2010, 23:44
Reception was bad today, plain and simple. SF74, A3, K1.
Brendan1
25-06-2010, 00:08
The morning hours are looking better, although 'listening' is still rather rough. :o
SF74, A2, K3.
Brendan1
25-06-2010, 23:21
About like yesterday. SF75, A6, K2.
Brendan1
27-06-2010, 04:18
An abysmal morning, and the afternoon wasn't much better. SF75, A14, K2 @ 0300 27 June.
Brendan1
28-06-2010, 00:40
The morning was much better than yesterday, and the afternoon turned out rather well. SF73, A12, K2.
Brendan1
28-06-2010, 23:06
The morning didn't turn out too bad, but the afternoon wasn't nearly as good. SF74, A8, K1.
Brendan1
30-06-2010, 00:49
A very average day today. SF74, A7, K3. :(
Brendan1
30-06-2010, 23:38
Very much a 'down' day - propagation wasn't really working for me today. :( SF74, A19, K2.
Brendan1
01-07-2010, 23:26
Not much to say about today: lots of signal, but not strong enough for listening. SF73, A12, K2. :(
Brendan1
03-07-2010, 02:29
Once again, propagation was not very good. SF73, A10, K2.
Brendan1
04-07-2010, 03:35
Much like yesterday.
SF72, A8, K2.
Brendan1
04-07-2010, 23:47
The morning was a loss, but the afternoon showed some slight improvement for a couple of periods. SF73, A5, K2.
Brendan1
05-07-2010, 23:40
Quite poor conditions today. SF73, A3, K1. :(
Brendan1
06-07-2010, 23:44
In spite of the solar indices being the same today as they were yesterday, reception was actually better here. SF73, A3, K1.
Brendan1
07-07-2010, 23:25
The RCI struggle continues... :( SF74, A1, K1.
Oh, and Dream crashed on me, and so I restarted nearly an hour late.
Brendan1

The ionosphere still refuses to cooperate. SF76, A2, K2.

Much the same as yesterday. SF80, A2, K1.
Brendan1
12-07-2010, 00:34
Same as it has been for weeks. The afternoon also includes Vatican Radio's portion of the afternoon, as Bonaire was busy relaying the World Cup final.

Poor propagation still rules: no real change today. SF80, A2, K2. :(
Brendan1

Still very poor today. SF79, A5, K1.
Brendan1
15-07-2010, 00:32
Not very good, again. This is the last log from me for a time. I'll be moving over the next week, so I have to take down the gear and get it ready for moving.
SF79, A7, K2.

Only the last hour of the afternoon today, as I just finished setting up the computer and radio, and the internet was only installed this morning.
A temporary antenna so far here in the new QTH, and I expect to have a more permanent one with better gain up soon.
Reception was not so good, so I see little has changed while I was off-air. :o

Today's geomagnetic storms did not help me at all! SF85, A14, K3.

30-07-2010, 00:16
Very uneven reception today.
SF85, A8 K2.
Brendan1
30-07-2010, 22:42
Dream crashed on me, so the log was restarted 90 minutes late. Still poor reception, so not much was lost unfortunately.
SF83, A5, K2.
had a nice reception at the beginning but than it went down.with s9 for long path multihop, and side band am splatter, and an am transmission on the same freq not so bad.
Brendan1
01-08-2010, 01:07
Very poor conditions today. SF82, A5, K1.
Reception of RCI has been very poor recently in the Atlanta GA area. Here are today's reception reports (the first log was delayed due to logger problems!).

Well, that's two of us that aren't receiving RCI well. SF80, A2, K2.

03-08-2010, 00:08
The morning wasn't very good at all, but the afternoon was something else! Best reception since spring. SF79, A5, K1 - these lower numbers really seem to help.
Today's logs do not look good. The first transmission barely showed some SNR. The latter decoding audio towards the end.
The MUF between Sackville and Atlanta is much higher then 9800 kHz at this time of the year. Although one would think that with the 70kW and high gain curtain antennas the signal would be a little better than it was.
-Zyg-
Today's reception reports for the two transmission periods.
According to propagation models, for this time of the year and current solar flux numbers, the 9800 kHz frequency has the highest attenuation for the Sackville -Atlanta path during the period of the first broadcast. The report shows this to be correct!

Late posting, sorry! Real life intruded yesterday, so just now am I getting to this.
Once again, the afternoon was better than the morning.
Brendan1
04-08-2010, 23:02
Wow, the morning was really slammed today. The afternoon was not as good as the previous days, but still rather better. SF81, A30, K4.
Brendan,
The reception of the first broadcast was worse than yours! Yesterday's solar flare and the resulting very high A index did not help! The second transmission is always better here.
73,
-Zyg-
Here are today's two RCI transmission reports. Not good as the solar flare made things worse.

06-08-2010, 02:47
Hmm, I don't think I did as bad as Zyg did. The Sun King is still messing things up of course, but my graphs look a little better in spite of him.
SF83, A10, K2.
Brendan1
06-08-2010, 23:06
Conditions are still poor today. SF 82, A5, K1.
Conditions continue to be very poor here too.

This afternoon's report. Conditions continue to be bad.

In the morning I'm pessimistic; in the afternoon I'm optimistic. SF85, A5, K1.
Conditions terrible.
Second transmission worse than the first...!
Brendan1
09-08-2010, 06:02
Still poor here as well. SF83, A3, K3 @ 0300/9 Aug.
Dream crashed too, that's why the morning is a little short.
Conditions continue to be poor.
Brendan1
10-08-2010, 04:42
The afternoon is definitely improving, looks like there is some seasonal propagation changes beginning to happen. I say that because in spite of the big solar events it is still better than it was just a couple of weeks ago.
Brendan1
10-08-2010, 23:32
Continued improvement today. The afternoon was especially good, and even the morning shows a better signal strength at the beginning.
SF 84, A5, K2.
No change, continuing very poor for the Sackville - Atlanta path.
Brendan1
11-08-2010, 23:02
I'll stick with my seasonal trend story for now. :) SF86, A10, K1.
Well at least there was some audio decoding on the 2nd broadcast!
Brendan1
12-08-2010, 23:02
Fairly mixed results today, but I still say that signal strength is up on average. SF84, A3, K1.
Propagation conditions continue to be extremely poor. :(
Conditions still weird.
A power failure prevented the logging of the 2nd RCI broadcast.
Brendan1
14-08-2010, 14:51
Conditions for my reception of RCI are still poor as well, and the afternoon was not as good as it has been of late.
They are still poor here.
The first log shows (phantom?) weird high SNR peaks, which also showed up in the SNR / Audio window of the System Evaluation. This might be a quirk of DReaM version 1.12
Brendan1
15-08-2010, 02:02
Definitely down from yesterday's band conditions. SF85, A3, K2.

Zyg - strange stuff indeed on the graphs. I have no explanation. Maybe Digger has seen this before?
I'm wondering if it might be due to lightning? There were big thunderstorms about 30 to 50 km south of my location this afternoon.
Brendan1
15-08-2010, 06:05
I don't think it was lightning. My latest log for RNZI on 15720 (8/15) was very good, and we had a vigorous T-storm come in and go by directly overhead here while I was logging tonight. I'd see strikes across the waterfall, but no real hit to the actual signal quality.
I was referring to the vertical SNR peaks that were occuring when there was no signal. Thinking about it that is a wrong assumption because the SNR is not just an 's' meter reading.
The two RCI reports this afternoon continue to be almost non-existant, the first one in particular...
Zyg - strange stuff indeed on the graphs. I have no explanation. Maybe Digger has seen this before?
The SNR peaks are a known problem with Dream under certain conditions, sorry.
Simone

Hi,
One way of finding out is to look at the CSV file - if this file also recorded such high SNR values. Otherwise we have to trust Simone's info.

The SNR peaks would be recorded in the long and short logfile.

Poor conditions still, although the afternoon is still better than the morning.
Interesting to hear that about DreaM and the spikes in Zyg's graph, I'll keep that in mind. I do seem to recall seeing that or something very similar in the past on various broadcasts - I didn't worry about it so I never asked. :o
Brendan1
16-08-2010, 23:35
Another poor morning, with another slightly better afternoon. SF86, A6, K1.
The morning log is short because Dream crashed twice on me.
The SNR peaks would be recorded in the long and short logfile.
Simone
Simone, Terje, & Brendan: Thank you for the response to my questions regarding the phantom SNR spikes!
As for the RCI transmissions, the 9800 kHz frequency at this time is certainly not targeting the Atlanta area. The target area, according to the RCI schedule, is the NE of the USA and not the SE! Furthermore the A index is high adding to the absorbtion and attenuation of the signal. :( The reports reflect this.
Yesterday afternoon's reception report for the RCI 1st DRM broadcast.
The 2nd attachment is a VOACAP forecast graph of the 9800 kHz RCI transmission at 1600 UTC.
My location clearly lies outside the predicted coverage area!
Yesterday afternoon's reception report for the RCI 2nd DRM broadcast.
The 2nd attachment is a VOACAP forecast graph of the 9800 kHz RCI transmission at 2100 UTC.
My location lies between predicted coverage areas!
The 2nd transmission actually decoded audio towards the end! :)

19-08-2010, 01:03
Sorry - other commitments are keeping me very busy outside of radio. Thank goodness my PC will tirelessly log things for me.
Very poor morning, some decoding in the afternoon.
Brendan1
19-08-2010, 01:05
The afternoon was about the same, but the morning was certainly better.
Brendan1
20-08-2010, 23:51
Reception is still suffering here. :(
Brendan1
20-08-2010, 23:52
Still dismal.
Brendan1
22-08-2010, 16:16
Propagation continues to be poor.
Brendan1
23-08-2010, 04:16
Another poor day here, and there was a power failure during the afternoon during an extremely strong thunderstorm. :(
Only logged the 2nd broadcast. Audio decoding became good at the very end.
Brendan1
24-08-2010, 13:47
Very poor yesterday.
The 2nd transmission getting better!
Brendan1
25-08-2010, 04:28
Seconded: the afternoon is showing fewer propagation issues than the morning currently. Not so good today, which means it's just like yesterday. :o
Conditions have deteriorated.

# Prepared by the US Dept. of Commerce, NOAA, Space Weather Prediction Center
Solar-terrestrial indices for 25 August follow.
Solar flux 74 and estimated mid-latitude A-Index 22.
The mid-latitude K-index at 2100 UTC on 25 August was 2 (14 nT).
Brendan1
26-08-2010, 00:38
Now that's odd: this afternoon's session was much better here, in fact it was the best in several weeks.
The morning absolutely bombed though, and my graph follows Zyg's really well.
Condtions continue to deteriorate. One of the DReaM phantom SNR peaks shows up in the first logging!
This afternoon's reception report.
Brendan1
28-08-2010, 17:30
Oddly enough, these two logs are the best of mine from yesterday.
Seems like RCI is perking up. The last half of the 2nd broadcast was good, but the audio appeared distorted.
Brendan1
29-08-2010, 00:51
Logger didn't record the morning session. Not sure why, but it didn't.
Conditions are waaay better than yesterday. I too see some uptick in the afternoon session.
Brendan1
29-08-2010, 23:03
Todays' logs: the morning was not so good, while the afternoon was not much either. :o
My reception this afternoon is pretty much the same as Brendan's.
Only logged the last transmission.
Brendan1
31-08-2010, 00:45
The same here: only the afternoon was logged today. Some improvement here, certainly.
Afternoon only reception logged (again).
Brendan1
01-09-2010, 00:35
The morning wasn't at all good, but the afternoon was great by comparison.
Only the first transmission correctly logged - Had logging problems this afternoon.
The projected track for Hurricane Earl shows it going almost directly over the RCI transmitter site in Sackville, New Brunswick, at about 18:00 UTC on Saturday.
Hopefully, by then, the storm will have subsided from hurricane force winds and the site will be spared any major problems.
Brendan1
03-09-2010, 01:29
Due to logger issues, nothing worked yesterday.
Today by contrast was absolutely the best day in months. Nearly perfect in the afternoon, the morning was no slouch and if the emerging fall pattern continues it too will only get better.
Brendan1
04-09-2010, 05:59
My morning log is about the same as Zyg's, but my afternoon log is quite good.
The 2nd transmission showed improvement in the last 15 minutes.
Brendan1
05-09-2010, 15:41
Yup, nearly the same here: lousy morning, perfect afternoon.
One of these days it will get better...
Brendan1
06-09-2010, 15:36
A step backwards yesterday, with the morning remaining poor and the afternoon only good for the last 15 minutes.
As soon as the carrier that was sitting on the frequency for at least 5 minutes before the half hour started blabbering at 2130 the fun was over.
Strong signal here at the back of the lobe and 99% CDA. Not bad at all. :)
Brendan1
06-09-2010, 23:09
A mediocre morning, and only the last 20 minutes of the afternoon session were any good here.
Very poor reception today. The first transmission was hardly there and the second was only a little better.
2nd transmission improving!
Brendan1
09-09-2010, 03:25
Catching up here: the poor morning session continues, while the afternoon is somewhat better.
Brendan1
09-09-2010, 03:27
There was signal all during the morning transmission, which is better than most days of late, although it was not very steady or decodable. The afternoon was also certainly better than yesterday.
Log for the 1st transmission only. 2nd transmission was not recorded due to logger failure.
Brendan1
10-09-2010, 00:46
My results are worse than they actually should have been for the morning log: my antenna was experiencing some difficulties, and so the input signal was actually being attenuated. By the afternoon it was 'fixed' but it still wasn't much good. :(
Brendan1
11-09-2010, 05:36
Much the same as yesterday, with little to no improvement.
Yesterday's reception reports. Some audio decoded in the 2nd transmission.
