View Full Version : 7320 kHz (BBC WS from Rampisham)
Rather good, signal was stronger than 9470 kHz when I started logging.
Roland
Hi all,
a weak signal at 0900- 0950, perfect later with both deoders
Simone
Quite good today, there was a break in transmission at 08:42 UTC.
Roland
Hi all,
problems with interference from the adjacent channel above starting at 1500, perfect results until 1500, like yesterday, see comparison attached
Simone
Absolutely no detectable signal when I tuned in today shortly after 08:00 UTC.
I then moved to 9470 kHz, however, when I checked 7320 kHz again half an hour later, on a second (AM) receiver, the signal was there.
Roland
Hi Roland,
I think thatīs normal, but whatīs the reason for you tuning in before 0830 UTC on this frequency, did I miss something?
Simone

After listening almost exclusively on 9470 kHz in the morning for the last few weeks, I just forgot about Rampisham starting its transmissions only later.
So no reason to worry, you didn't miss anything. :D
Roland
Hi all,
perfect results again until 1500, great to see the BBC are using UEP again, which is an advantage especially with the difficult conditions from 1500. Unfortunately this canīt be seen in the results as I was not aware of the usage of UEP when scheduling this log early in the morning :(, but certainly a big difference when listening with the FhG software.
Simone
PS: Tests on 7320 kHz before 0800 UTC as observed by Roland are not a good idea, as RNW is transmitting in DRM at +5 kHz at this time.
Absolute perfect until 15 UTC. Then the graph looks a bit noisy, but these droputs were not really audible with the Fraunhofer Software and UEP worked quite well. But at 17:45 a very strong co-channel AM station started and destroyed the DRM signal.
Hi all,
similar results as the past days, in the last hours using a deoder that supports UEP is an improvement. An even better alternative is to switch to 1296 kHz or 7465 kHz which both give nearly perfect results during these hours.
Btw at 1440 and 1450 Tx related dropouts.
Simone
Hi all,
pretty good results today, mobile reception until 1300, then DWT at home, again interferences from 1500, but not causing dropouts
Simone
Results of today. Again no reception possible after 17:45UTC because auf a AM co-channel monster.
A somewhat stronger signal than on 9470 kHz but I have seen better days.
Almost identical results with Dream and DRMSWR.
Today, I noticed audio clicks on two different correspondent's reports. I hope that this was not a manifestation of the old problem that plagued BBC transmissions a few months ago.
Roland
Hi,
My best reception ever of the BBC WS!
Time: 10:00 - 11:34 UTC. Result: 99.8 % CDA.
Hi all,
good results using the indoor loop/ DWT and the DRMSWR with the IF of the DWT being in the range of the FhG software :)
The small dips in the graph were not audible.
Simone
... and excellent results later in the car with DRMSWR, the first half was mobile reception
Simone
Hi all,
excellent results until 1500, and MFN synchronized with both frequencies from Kvitsoy.
Simone
Hi all,

Simone
Hi all,
great results from 1100 UTC after the datastream problems (as already mentioned on 9470 kHz) had been solved.
Btw why not use the MF datastream for HF as a backup in such a case, this worked quite well some weeks ago.
Simone
Hi,
after the datastream problem had been solved there were still a few incidents with exploding spectrum.
Roland
Hi all,
great results in the car today, about half of the time mobile reception
Simone
...also good results later using the DWT until AM interferers started as usual at 1500
Simone
Hi all,
a weaker signal at 0900- 1000, the usual problem from 1500, but perfect results from 1000- 1500 using the DWT
Simone
Hi all,
only an unattended log today, so no idea what caused the problems in the first half hour, pretty good for the rest of the time.
Simone
Hi all,
perfect results in the last two hours this afternoon
Simone
Hi all,
perfect results for the last 3 hours, very stable SNR, just two parallel lines for the SNR and audio graphs
Simone
Not so good over here, a lot of interference.
Roland
Hi all,
pretty good results for 2.5 hours, also well synchronized in my area with the transmissions from Norway as an MFN, nearly seamless switching between the stations before and after the frequency changes.
Great that the time/ date information is now also broadcast on the BBC WS HF transmissions.
Simone
Hi all,
strong signal again today, see attachment
Simone
Good reception apart from two short periods with interference that looked like data transmissions, see screenshot with WMER plots.
Roland

Simone
Hi all,
perfect results for 5.5 hours using the DWT, see attachment
Simone
Hi all,
just like the past days, see attachment
Simone
Hi,
signal was unusually strong today but there was also an interfering signal, perhaps from a data transmission as on other occasions. When it appeared, I moved to 9470 kHz.
Roland
Hi all,
meanwhile the interfering data transmission is causing problems regularly here, in the morning only for a short period around 0915, in the afternoon starting at about 1315 until the end of the transmission even with good conditions and a strong signal from Rampisham, mostly results with DReaM are much better than the DRMSWR.
Simone
Hi all,
good results during this period, before at around 0915 again interference from a datatransmission
Simone
Hi,
Near perfect today except for 2 dropouts.
regards
Bob
Hi all,
quite good but again interference from the datatransmissions mentioned earlier, some dropouts with FhG software during these periods, see comparison with Dream attached

Hi,
the usual interference. Quite good otherwise.
Roland
Hi all,
some problems in the first half hour with a weaker signal an interference from the adjacent channel below, later the usual interference at 0915, perfect for the rest of my log, but in the afternoon again interference from the datatransmissions (see also thread mobile reception)
Simone
A lot of interference during the last hour today.
Roland
Hi all,
quite good results except the period with the interfering datatransmission around 0915, see attachment
Simone
Hi all,
again a few minutes this morning with the usual interference, see atttachment
Simone
Hi all,
again strong interference (datatransmission) from 1315 UTC until the end of the transmission.
Also it looked to me like a Tx problem (?) until 0845 this morning (no log)
Simone
Hi all,
again problems with the interferer in the afternoon, quite good before, see attachment
Simone
Hi all,
a weak signal in the first half hour, see attachment
Also some problems with the EPG.
Simone
Hi all,
a weak signal at the beginning followed by Tx related problems from 0730- 0815, quite good results and normal SNR from 0815, and the usual interferer around 0915, (dropouts at 0930 probably my fault)
During the break from Rampisham there was a signal from Norway, but later I noticed it was not the regular datastream (lower bitrate, no dataservice, no ID, countrycode.., btw they did not return to the normal feed until now)
Simone
Hi all,
quite good results this afternoon, see attachment

Very solid signal.
It started very weak this morning and problems from 13:15UTC
Hi Carsten,
the bad results around 0915 and from 1315 are caused by a daily interfering data transmission, which I mentioned a couple of times recently. Interestingly DReaM can cope much better with this kind of interference than FhG if you compare with my log from this afternoon. Btw it is not a local problem, I have observed this within a range of a few hundred kilometers, but no idea yet where it originates from.
Simone

Btw it is not a local problem, I have observed this within a range of a few hundred kilometers, but no idea yet where it originates from.
The data transnmission also does its destructive work here at my location.
It would be interesting to know at which location it doesn't occur, because that location might be closer to the source and within the dead zone.
Strangely, the data communication doesn't seem to be affected by the DRM signal, so one might assume that the stations are located outside of Rampisham's beam, perhaps far in the east, the Middle East, in the North or even in Portugal/Spain.
Roland
Hi ll,
quite good until the interference started as usual, see attachment
Simone
Not bad until interference caused a severe dropout.
Roland
Hi all,
a typical complete log from Rampisham yesterday (also 5875 kHZ), a weak signal at the beginning, interference in the afternoon, good results after the frequency change, a weaker signal later, see attachment
Simone
Hi all,
perfect from 0715, except one short dropout at 0900, maybe Tx related?
Simone
Quite good this frequency here, although signal strength is not as stable here as in Frankfurt. It goes up and down a lot here.
Unfortunately the power supply has got a much worse influence on reception here, even with the loop.
Hi all,
strong signal after a weak start, high SNR using the DWT/ longwire, no idea what caused the two dropouts at around 0810, at 0915 the usual interfernce, see attachment
Simone

Dropouts were caused by interference from an AM station at +5 kHz.
I can confirm the datastream problem.

strong and stable signal as usual, good results using the DWT/ longwire at home.
Later also great mobile results, after some improvements/ adjustments on my equipment SNR climbed up to more than 30dB on this transmission in the car.
Simone
Not bad with the exception of an hour with bad interference.
Signal strength at the start of my logging period was at least 20 dB higher than that of Kvitsoy on 9470 kHz carrying the same programme.
Roland
Quite good results all day

Driving from near Ibbenbueren to Minden via A30.
Very good signal, only a longer dropout in the 1730 meter long WeserAuenTunnel at Porta Westphalica.
Strong and stable signal, great results in the car today.
Simone
Excellent results, both at home and in the car today.
Simone
Very good results today. I'm waiting for that day, when BBC will manage an as good evening and nighttime reception on SW....
Heavy interference started shortly before 16:00 UTC and destroyed reception.
Roland
Long-term observations May 2 to 19
as ZIP-archive (http://www.intervalsignals.org/drm-observations)
Good condtions all day, I guess dropouts were Tx related (but I did not watch it)
Simone
Quite good over 5.5 hours. A better SNR than what I am used to from transmissions from Kvitsoy.
Roland
A period with lower SNR for about an hour this afternoon (maybe some interference) but very close to 100% audio decoding all day! Also unlike Kvitsoy Rampisham used the normal datastream (higher bitrate & AFS, bws).
Simone
The usual interference problems which I always have between 16:00 and 17:00 UTC.
Roland
Perfect for 10 hours today. SNR was very stable, but signal strength varied +/- 10 dB. That shows that this TX is still SNR limited, but 30 dB is a quite acceptable value.
Seems to be the most reliable of all transmissions in my location all day!:)
Strong and stable signal again (btw 52dBĩV is max. of the DWT) this morning, also good mobile results later today.
Simone
Here in Munich , there is always strong interference in the early evening.
The first dropout in the log was artificially induced.
Roland
Not perfect but not bad either.
Roland
Seemed there was a Tx problem at 1700- 1725, otherwise great results all day.

Perfect! :)
Another long report with pretty good results all day, donīt know what happened just before 1200, looks like (maybe?) TX problems
Simone
Good results on mobile reception this afternoon.
Simone
Nearly perfect for 10 hours today

Software hanging badly in a loop, zipped mp3 attached, constant audio spectrum showing the harmonics:
Donīt know when the audio problem started today as it was an unattended log, but text mesages had not been working since yesterday.
Simone
Still problems with audio and text messages this morning, I think audio was back at 0845, text messages some time later, all big dropouts Tx/ datastream related
Simone
Not as good as usual on mobile reception today, some interference from the adjacent channel above and distant thunderstorms causing some dropouts, but still OK for listening most of the time.
Simone
Bad reception due to interference from a local thunderstorm that passed over me and also from distant thunderstorms all around.
Roland
Some problems caused by thunderstorms in the last hours, otherwise quite good all day.

Driving from near Osnabrueck to Gescher via A30, A31:
No thunderstorms today, so quite good results all day.
Simone
Nearly perfect results, also after many weeks synchronization of the MFN with transmissions from Kvitsoy worked great again .
Simone
Great results all day!
Simone
... and again today.
Simone
Perfect the last 3 hours today.
Nearly perfect all day, even with thunderstorms towards the end, also seems there was a short Tx test at 1820 ;)
Btw I could not get a signal from Norway on 7465 kHz today, was there no transmission? But strong AM signal from RS 1700- 1730 could be received.

Driving from Muenster to Gescher, perhaps a little late.
Strong AM signal 10 kHz up and another carrier looking through 5 Khz up during weak periods.
Good results in the car today.
Simone
Pretty good all day, not sure about the dropout at 1500, probably Tx related.
