this morning I found the reason for the audio dropouts which occured in the past days. Appearently we have trouble with an audio encoding/decoding system used to relay the studio the the transmitter site. It should be fixed by now as we switched to a backup audio feed. Thanks for reporting the problem.

just an good average result after propagation is becoming stable again. I stopped when they shifted back to the 14,56 kBps telephone.

Btw I often have the problem, that when tuned exactly to 6095 kHz DREAM Sw attempts to synch with 6085 kHz instead, namely with the visible carrier peak in particular (which is indicated by the red dotted line being at 2 kHz i.o. 12 kHz in the spectrum!). To get audio under these conditions and also to prevent "jumps" when leaving the system unattended I have to mistune intentionally to 6097 kHz. Is this normal? Any idea how to cope with?

First log is a long term log, until signal suddenly faded out quite fast in the night.

Few dropouts caused by local noise. Some bigger Tx related dropouts (Changing bitrate - 20,0 kbps P-Stereo, 17,46 Kbps mono and 14,56 kbps telephone quality as well as mutimedia on/off).

When posting this first at 6:43 UTC I was still waiting for the very weak signal to become strong and decodable again. In fact I was too impatient because some minutes later signal gained its regular strength again within 45'. So I edited my post and added a second log. I suppose signal will now stay at that level the whole day long....

A radiation pattern would be interesting to see.

It was interesting to notice, that when I was receiving this signal (see report above), the main pulse of the impulse response was really static in Dreams IR window (time sync tracking set to 'guard energy'), quite unlike from other stations, where it moves back and forth most of the time. I have seldomly seen such a steady IR on shortwave.

Continuous reception in Munich.
Signal strength is really good but also varied by 20 dB. 5990 kHz is stronger in periods when the 6095 kHz signal goes down by 20 dB. Otherwise, signal strength is not much different between both frequencies.

The impulse response looks similar to yesterday, it consists mostly of two equally strong pulses and a weaker heap at about 3 to 4 ms. Sometimes there is an equidistant third peak of the same amplitude as the first two peaks but all three peaks are within about 2ms.
The first peak of the IR may vary by 20 dB with respect to the second peak.
On 5990 kHz, the impulse response looks very similar.

No idea, why DRMCalc 5.0 interprets the station as being RNZI Rangitaiki.

Hi,

An almost four hour long report, mostly unattended. The second part was quite good. It is interesting to note that when the 6.085 MHz signal is very strong, it suppresses the RTL signal somewhat. Seems to be related to the AGC in my receiver.

When I tuned in at 18:45 UTC, there were only AM signals. The main one on 6095 kHz sounded like being a programme in persian language.
Propagation seems to have broken down already. No DRM signal on 5990 kHz either.

This is absolut my best log from RTL, I have never recive so perfect signal this time from RTL like this day. Log is 116min. from 0915 to 1115UTC. SNR up to 31db.

Michel have You tune up antenna or QRO ?????

Or condx , but under this time was RTL only station I can record i DRM on all band for very strong AURORA Level 10 today.

Unattended three hours with two larger dropouts for unknown reasons. After 15 UTC the SNR dropped very fast - AM +/- 5 kHz.

Driving through Bad Oeynhausen to Minden center, quite good in bad Oeynhausen with the many noisy wires over the street, big dropout in the Weserauentunnel.

Everything was quite fine up until 15 UTC. Then the adjacent channels started increasing in strength. The log is about 7 hours long.


Sorry, you 5 folks who wondered about the date stamp in the original log; here is the correct date (but same log) :p

Today's log had to be split into two, as I needed the sound card for while during the afternoon. The log was more or less unattended. Todays log for 6.095 MHz was logged on the FRG 7700. The two receivers share the same antenna, by the way.

A very meager result during the night. No decoded audio at all. Could it be because of a very low MUF around 3.7 MHz for my distance to the transmitter? :confused:

Around 08 UTC reception became possible. However, the conditions today seemed worse than usual. Then again in the afternoon the adjacent channels generated problems.

The conditions seemed to be better today compared with the last few days. On the whole the reception was stable but not as stable as the French Service. In the afternoon the DRM reception became impossible when strong AM appeared on the adjacent channels.

Today's log wasn't much better than yesterdays log. It seemed like the signals were much weaker this morning than they used to be. This log will be the last "monster" log for RTL. It was interesting in a way to look at the result over a whole week. But it seems to be a bit problematic when you are not in the prime target for the transmitter beam.
