This morning 5.990 started with strong adjacent channels at ±5 kHz. Impossible to hear anything at all. 5.985 went QRT just before 0700 UTC
5.995 was still strong which prevented proper decoding
0855 UTC good reception
0946 UTC changed to slow AGC. This can be seen in the log as an increase in SNR.
1100 UTC 5.990 kHz ca. 60 dBuV (but 2 RX on same antenna)
1215 UTC 27 dB SNR and ca. 43 dBuV (but 2 RX on same antenna)
1405 UTC 28 dB SNR and ca. 64 dBuV (but 2 RX on same antenna)
1455 UTC 14 dB SNR and ca. 40 dBuV (2 RX on same antenna). Now audio interruptions.
The rest was more or less unusable. It seems to me that the 6 MHz band is best during the daytime for distances within Europe.
Réception a Paris.
Bonne et heureuse année 2007 à tous.

Today's 8.5 hours long log had problems at 13 UTC and after 15 UTC. The log was mosly unattended. Today I switched 5.990 MHz to the FR-101, as its passband tuning is around 6 MHz, which causes RF attenuation and not optimum sensitivity.
Had some problems this morning getting Dream to log onto the 12 kHz IF in the FR-101. The first hour from 0810 UTC was taken with the FRG 7700, the rest with the FR-101 after re-aligning the 12 kHz IF.
I logged until 1645 UTC. But after 1445 UTC there was a strong adjacent channel which made reception of RTL impossible.
Nothing at all in the log this morning. Whether I should blame the receiver that it did not please the Dream software, or was it caused by the bad propagation during the night? I was not there, therefore I can't tell.
When I turned on the receiver this morning, there was a Czech TX blocking the channel with a strong AM signal. When it shut down at 08 UTC it took another 30 minutes until RTL presented decoded audio. At 1445 UTC other signals started popping up which ruined the reception totally.
The conditions seemed to be better today compared with the last few days. Instead of tuning the FR-101 to 5.990 MHz I added an up-mixer and tuned the receiver to 29.990 MHz instead. On the whole the reception was stable except for a couple of dropouts. In the afternoon the DRM reception became impossible when strong AM appeared on the same channel.
Today there are two logs. Dream, or was it the sound card, froze and I did not notice it until an hour later.
The second log stops roughly at the same time as always in the afternoon when QRM on the same channel starts.
Today's log wasn't much better than yesterdays log either. Some blocks of perfect audio and then again longer periods of no audio at all.
It seemed like the signals were much weaker this morning than they used to be. This log will be the last "monster" log for RTL. It was interesting in a way to look at the result over a whole week. But it seems to be a bit problematic when you are not in the prime target for the transmitter beam.

Hello to all,
I enjoyed an exceptionnally good reception this sunday morning, due to the lack of computer and electrical activity in the neighbourhood :-) RTL is totally unavailable this winter here near Strasbourg, one of the causes is the permanent domestic QRN I can't stop.
RTL transmitted multimedia until 10:50 UT : it was a 33 pages-long Journaline service, inculding news, sport news, and the time and content of short editorial broadcast during the morning newscast. Reception was easy and fast (only around 2 minutes to get the whole thing).
After 10:50 UT, Journaline disappeared and audio switched from EEP to UEP.

Hi,
Not much DRM awailable in the evening, so I gave RTL a try. Fine signal until 19:00 UTC, when the signal was lost in an AM inferno.
Prior to that a CDA of 99.3 % for 25 minutes.
Here's a brief log of RTL 5990 kHz, March 25. This signal has been much better than this on occasions recently.
Cheers, Chris

Hi,
205 minutes of RTL. According to DRM Discovery there should have been a transmitter and location change at 07:30 UTC. But nothing on my logg to prove that? Fine reception up until 08:40 UTC. A total of 58% CDA.

Hello to all,
A log made at the annual meeting of the french DX club "Amitie Radio" near Paris. Better results than at the german border, and one can see the spectacular difference in reception when Wertachtal is on/off air. The computer was plugged to AC power during all this time.

An unattended log 1101 - 1357 UTC. There were some problems when Wertachtal switched off just before 12 UTC, but after 30 minutes the reception suddenly improved.

Hi all,
A good result this morning but after 07:10 problems started when the signal turned weak.
Hi,
91 minutes of listening; 07:10 until 08:41 UTC. Also today the signal was degraded at around 08:35. A calculations shows that 10 MHz would have been the ideal QRG for my reception at that time of the day.

Hi all!
Here are three days of logging over the daytime last week, every one is over 14 hours each. Thats how DRM should work in the in past times called "European-Band". :)
It's interesting that RTL France works very good here in the northwest of germany whereas RTL Germany has often problems during the day. I hope RTL hasn't paid to much money for the new 6095 folded dipol. ;)

and the third part...
I found out that rtl 5990 works better at daytime with 5992 khz tuned because of some image problems (some kind of digital transmission; about 3 or 4 khz wide) which goes out of the drm-spectrum to 2 khz up with 5992 tuned in (Elektor DRM).

And here's the last (a little bit shorter) one from last Friday. It's only from 06.16 UTC to 17.15 UTC, buts it's quite good with 99.86% correct decoded audio, too.
Btw: Looking at the Screenshot from the 12.7. exactly: Do i see somekind of pattern? About every 2 1/4 hours (starting at about 08.15) there is a little dip in audio over the whole day?! Is it my PC or something from the tx or just a coincidence?

Hi all,
35 °C this afternoon here nr. Munich, 100% Summer today
Time to go inside and make a short look to RTL .
S-Meter Signal moved between S9+25 and +40 db. Very strong, but the IR is wide . Result is a low SNR between 19 to 22 db.
17.48 Kbps for this conditions is ok.
Nearly a complete day long log. After midnight 100% Audio for half an hour (no QRM!)
An almost one hour long log from RTL this morning. The signal seems to weaken towards the end. Not too bad for this crazy DRM receiver.

Signal was not as strong today as it is usually.
The last time 5990 kHz was on air was yesterday at 20.59 UTC. The transmitter was not switched on this morning and won't be on air in the near future.
6095 kHz and 1440 kHz will stay on air but I wonder when RTL/BCE will close the DRM broadcasts on these QRGs.

Thats really sad. :( (Are the tubes exhausted?)
But maybe BCE can use the 5990 - cross-dipole for 6095Khz from now on?! The reception from that antenna was definitive better than the new directed dipole they use for germany -at least to the northwest of germany.
