MOI Kuwait rose above the terrible splash from 13610 kHz for a while today and provided some partial decoding for a change.

Hi All

Got some broken audio from Kuwait on 13620 kHz today. This is another DRM frequency that is ruined by China in this part of the world. In this case the offending transmitter is on 13610 kHz. And people complain about DRM signals being wide :-(

From the Kuwait DRM-signal we still get a good backloop
of abt. S 8 over here. Sufficient enough for some audio.
At certain days an 10 - 12 dB SNR Signal is giving a constant
audio decoding. Today unfortunatly the fading was extrem
and therefore audio quite poor.

It is really a shame, that this transmission has not got a clear frequency. As you can see, interference from other AM stations started at 11 UTC. From that time, signal strength is rising, but audio becomes worse.

Here a report against my own rules to show how useless this low bitrate transmission is.
1. The audio sounds terrible.
2. The low bitrate does not help against a bad frequency choice. At 11:00 UTC an AM transmission started 5 kHz up, you can see the result in the report.
3. The audio bandwidth is worse than what most of the shortwave AM stations are using, see my comparison between digital Kuwait and analog Deutsche Welle.

Hello andimik, about the sound quality:

In this DRM mode, the audio sampling frequency is 24 kHz. Since it is a sampled signal, the spectral components are mirrored at the nyquist frequency which is fs/2 = 12 kHz: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nyquist_frequency

When you convert it D/A you have a audio BW about 3.5 kHz

Here is a perfect log from Chania/Crete, using a laptop, the DRT1 and the Degen loop at about 10m above sea level. The signal was about 60 to 70 dBuV, actually the strongest signal received, but due to the very noisy environment the SNR results were not as good as expected.
