Beginning tonight 4/21/09, FEBC Siapan will add a test transmission at 0800-0900UT on 11580 with a beam heading of 294 degrees towards China. There is a minor lobe towards Japan from the antenna, and much of East Asia may have a signal. This is expected to continue through the end of April. Reports from anyplace would be welcome.

John Stanley, visiting engineer, FEBC, Siapan.

Audio didn't quite make it to Germany.
I detected 11579.9 kHz as center frequency.

Thanks all. You can see what directional antennas are for! To bad we don't have permission to use the 341 degree antenna on 11580, I think it would do well into Europe. - See you all tomorrow. John

Tonight we will repeat the program of last night, except with mode B for the whole hour. Our transmitter works better with mode B than A and better on 11580 than 11650. We are trying to find out why. Some aspect of tuning, apparently. - John

hi all
There is signal of CRI on 11605KHz.
And that signal efect on 11580KHz.
I am using att of 20dB.
it is better than yesterday.
I will report letter.

Tonight will be the last test on 11650 at 341 degrees, but the 11580 tests to the west will continue at least through this weekend. We hope that some listeners in China, India and other places will be able to listen on Saturday and Sunday. We realize that this is too early in the day for those who have to work a regular day. The tests here have been very useful from a technical and training perspective. Everyone's help is greatly appreciated. -John

This signal is not terribly strong here in South China, appro. S7-8 on +10dB preAmp? If you factor in the local noise, it would certainly be worse.

Anyway, good copy because of stable propagation conditions.

Looking at the IR profile, one can see quite a long 'tail' and not hard to imagine what an AM signal would sound like in this severe selective fading conditions.

K4ERO
26-04-2009, 03:54
Thanks to all, especially ZFYOUNG for your reports. The signal could be stronger into China and places further west, if we were later in the evening. However, the transmitters are all used for regular AM during those hours.
More tests tonight. Due to the very long tail on the Impulse response, I think we dare not try mode A, but me may try to do a 16 QAM tests, without stereo.

Almost the same with yesterday, shaky toward the end of test. I have noticed signal actually increased in strength despite of the gradual SNR deteriation as is shown on the log.

A simple look at the IR tells me why:Too long IR violated the guard interval restriction. I don't know if a change of transmission antennas(angle, type, ...)would help because this is definitely a wast of energy.

I really think the reconfiguration of the signal from 64QAM to 16QAM is a wise move given the challenging conditions. But for haven's sake, DO remember to use SBR whenever is possible.

Thanks for the very helpful info. The antenna here is a TCI 4x4 curtain mounted on a 100 meter high cliff. This breaks the pattern up into a number of lobes, but increases the signal strength at very low angles by more than 10 dB. I suspect that the signal strength would build as the terminator moves further west, but the multipath probably gets worse also. - John

I have been using otgher receinver of double-
convertion as flollows.
11580KHz -> 450KHz->12KHz(for dream of PC)
and there were very strong noises today.

Hi

Much to my suprise I did see some signs of DRM on 11580 kHz
today, though about as weak as it can get and still get
a log file....

Cheers, Chris

Tonight we will try mode B for the first 1/2 hour and mode C for the second. Sorry for the lower audio quality, but we are trying to help with a very long impulse response caused by multipath. - john

beginning was dood but not so good
08:30 to 09:00.
Because CRI was started program on 11605KHz.
It was very very strong 30-35dB orever S-9-
at S metter of IC-R75.

Tonight the tests will be on a different transmitter. The new transmitter tuned up very nicely. Identical to the other one, but we have just gotten it ready for DRM. We hope to push the power from 20 KW up to about 35 KW tonight. Tonight and tomorrow will likely be the last two tests. -John

Greetings all. Tonight will be the last night of testing.:( We will be on 11580 from 0800-0900. Sorry for some problems last night. The IT engineer has gone, and the rest of us don't know everything about the content server, so I made an unacceptable key entry and crashed everything. :( :( Thanks for all the helpful reports. :D I will make one last post after any responses we get from tonight's test. -John

Many thanks to all of you who have been so helpful. Tonight we had a few problems with our local monitoring equipment and thought it was the transmitter. That is the reason for a few interruptions. We now have a dummy load working and will do a bit of further testing and tuning during the working day, but no more on the air for now. The equipment is working fine, and the local FEBC engineers have learned well how to operate it. All in all, a successful time. Ruth and I will return to Georgia on Saturday. Thanks again and God Bless you all. - John

I am tolking about interfere on 11580KHz.
there was very very strong on 11605KHZ in Japan.
The signal came from Tiwan.
And program in Japanese.
So that signal was very very strong in Japan.
sorry i did not explain well .
