View Full Version : 9730 kHz VoR from Bolshakovo
Could not find a topic. Strange ID (FF....)
Very bad audio (too loud , much clipping)
Propagation was perfect.
Frequency seems to be ok according to http://www.ruvr.ru/main.php?lng=ger&e=130
Language was German, then Russian.
Site might have been Bolshakovo (Kaliningrad)
edit: post moved, Simone
A weak and unstable signal.

Hi all,
A weak signal, below 23 dBuV with overmodulated audio, gave the attached result.

Hi all,
Weaker signal today and bad results (mostly unattended log).

Good rf signal, only a dip in the Gelsenkirchen A2 tunnel, but bad audio quality.
The audio source obviously is compressed for AM transmission with a lot of distortion audible in the car hifi speakers. Additionally there is a constant low frequency mumbling in the background on voices due to the low DRM bitrate.
The distance in DRMcalc is wrong.

Hi all,
Very weak signal but stable to give a not bad result for more than 160 mins.

The bitrate matches the sound source, good rf signal:

Good again:
An almost three hours log with my highest ever recorded SNR value of 39.35 dB :D despite of quite a lot of Fading throughout the log.
Hi all,
My results for today.
Jos.
Hi all,
Quite good today.
Jos.
A five hours long perfect log. One drop-out was my PC. Max SNR was slightly better than yesterday. :) :)
Despite a rather weak signal during the morning I got a new SNR record anyway. :)
The conditions were messier this morning and the signal was not the strongest either. The reception was perfect anyway.
Today was a disappointment, SNR wise...
Rather miserable conditions this morning as can be seen in this log... :(
MUF was low this morning and you can see this in the log. The SNR peaked at 40.1 dB at 09:55 UTC.
It is getting worse and worse. My record SNR is way out of reach with the S-meter floundering around 15 dBuV...
MUF was too low again this morning for the distance to this TX, and you can see that clearly in this 5 hours long log, both at the beginning and at the end. The SNR peaked at 40.42 dB at 11:56 UTC. :)
Not at all stable today
A rather unstable signal with large fluctuations in the signal strength. Despite that I got another new personal SNR record. :)
The conditions are not perfect, but this transmitter seems to be. Today, again I got another new personal best SNR record: 40.96 dB at 12:33 UTC.
The result was not that spectacular today. But it was near to perfect anyway.
"Only" max. 40.5 dB SNR today. ;)
I wonder what kind of TX setup they run out there. The TX is doing a fine job. If someone at VoR would actually would be so nice to answer the e-mails I sent
A bit more unstable today. Propagation is not very good at all and MUF is too low.
Not so good today. My Picasa application caused some dropouts around 12:20. Then at the very end a local thunderstorm trashed it completely.
Hi,
My first catch of VoR on this frequency. Excellent reception until 09:14 UTC when the signal dropped considerably.
Time: 08:25 - 09:15 UTC, Result: 95.7 % CDA.
A log with tests with different receivers and different antennas. About 98% CDA.
A one hour log with two different receivers and using one antenna. About 99.8% CDA.
A 5 hours perfect log (if you don't take the AV update into account. Grrr...)
No transmission today? (I gave up after an hour's waiting...)
Hi all.
Good signal but deep and fast fading 44/22 dbuV.
A bit unstable today, but almost perfect decoding anyway.
In the beginning the signal was a bit on the weak side; then the quality varied widely. Max SNR was 40.2 at 12:31 UTC.
Another wavy log, but again a 40+ dB SNR :)
Hi Bernd and all,
Today was probably best in the beginning. I was late and I got my max. SNR only minutes after I started the log
2 hours with perfect result and high SNR.
Despite the sunspot and the promising propagation forcast from this morning, VoR did not profit from this at all.
The reason for the dropouts around 0935 was my scanner.
A short check this morning revealed a utility station 5 kHz up churning data that destroyed the upper part of VoR's SNR spectrum. Will check later if the utility gives up.

There was astrong, good signal when I started the log, then suddenly after a couple of minutes I thought my antenna had collapsed.
This is what was left after cutting the 2 hours plus long unattended log.
Quite a different result today. Very good until 10 UTC, then the signal got weaker.

SNR Maximum [dB]: 41.0 :)
It started out strong, but shortly after I lost the signal completely.
The reception now compared to the high SNR logs in the early days of my logs has turned rather unstable. There was heavy Fading today and towards the end of the log the reception was impeded by nearby lightning.
Noticed that there was AM on the frequency, at least until 1030 UTC.
As far as I have understood, it has been AM only here the last couple of days...
Now: 0840 UTC.
Still only AM here on 9730 kHz (now: 08:13 UTC)
VoR is back on DRM again here, at least since yesterday. The signal was much stronger today and the SNR was 39.7 dB as its highest.
A 4 hours 41 minutes log with virtually perfect results. I wonder why they cannot vary the programme content more often? Some parts are always the same. The SNR peaked at 39.8 dB.

Hi all,
Very weak signal here, below 15 dBuV but no QRM today, so I run the attached bad log. I stopped it after 28 mins, it was boring to listen to.
A mostly unattended log. 99.9% decoded audio for 163 minutes.
The signal got weaker towards the end and lightning began interfering also.
One re-sync at 11:15:00 for some reason, otherwise perfect reception. Max SNR 39.9 dB at 08:38.
Yesterday's log. The SNR varies, but the reception was nearly perfect.
Unfavourable propagation conditions today.
A 5 hour, mostly unattended log.
Very good reception of this transmission.
Despite large variations in the SNR the reception was almost perfect anyway.
The SNR was not the usual high today. Perfect reception.
Perfect decoding despite large variations in the SNR.
Hi,
Far from good reception at my location. Listening time: 12:26-12:56 UTC.
This gave a CDA of just 34 %.
BTW it was exactly 3 months ago that I last listened to VoR on this QRG, then 96 % CDA!
Perfect reception, all 100% here. Just for fun I let Dream run in Linear Time Interpolation, that's why there is no Doppler in the plot.
201 perfect minutes with 100% CDA in this unattended log.

Good reception with the usual resyncs on my side:
Perfect reception here today too. An unattended log.
Perfect reception here today too, despite PLC QRM from the house behind mine. An unattended log.
237 minutes log with 99.99% CDA. Max. SNR was 37.7 dB at 12:01.
A bit variable result today.
Quite good, but the internet surfing at the neighbour's causes interference. The SNR spectrum looks suspicious. The log was unattended. The weather was too nice to sit inside. :)
PS: The spectrum looked the same at the end of the log.
No risk of breaking any SNR records with this PLC junk running 30 meters away in the next house. The SNR spectrum looks the same as in yesterday's png. Two distinct dips in the spectrum.
Variable SNR but except for a dropout at the very beginning the decoding was perfect.

Hi all,
One hour log. The signal was good around 09:05 then slowly it turned very weak until the end of log. Not bad !
