View Full Version : 11995 kHz RDP Portugal from Sines
Not as good as during winter on 9815 kHz.

Unstable conditions plus a chinese speaking AM station 5 kHz up:
Here in New Zealand the interfering station 5 kHz up is RDPI itself broadcasting in AM (to South America?)! Most annoying hearing them id'ing in AM including DRM freq while I'm trying to decode them!
Cheers, Chris

Hi all,
The signal although was good suffered by strong co-channel QRM and fading. I stopped the log when QRM became dominant.

Hi all,
The signal today was a bit stronger and withstood better the QRM (stopped at 09:58) so I attached a much better result than yesterday.
A few minor dropouts today.

Good reception here:
Not bad up here either. Only a short log to save batteries... but the "Social affairs" programme was not very exciting either...
Not too bad this weekend, still these 4 regular small dips from the Tx.

Hi all,
A problematic result due to co-channel QRM and relatively weak signal.

Hi all,
A bit better result today.
Rather good with the typical small 4 dips.
Simone
Hi,
My first catch of RDP. The text msg:
"This is RDPi. Portuguese international broadcasting service, via DW Sines Portugal"
explains the good result, as usual from Sines.
Time: 08:59-09:45 UTC, which resulted in a CDA of 95.5 %.

Hi all,
The last 15 mins from this transmission. Good signal but suffered by the splatters of the TX on 12.000 kHz. QRM stopped 2 mins before the end of log.
Perfect apart from the Tx problems.
Simone
Similar results again this weekend.
Simone
Results as usual this weekend.
Simone
Perfect decoding, but the SNR was unstable.

Hi all,
Whenever the signal turned marginal the QRM took over and produced dropouts, although, I sometimes got SNR figures over 30 dB.
Good results this weekend, seems the problem with the regular dips has been solved.
Simone
Perfect reception here. The one big dip was my PC.
Good results this weekend.
Simone
Hi,
Not that good at my location, but I did enjoy the music that was played.
Time: 08:52 until close down at 10:00 UTC. Result: 79 % CDA.
Quite good apart from a few minor dropouts this weekend.
Simone
I thought I heard some audio drop-outs in the beginning but on the whole it was very good. Not familiar with the language, so the most was unattended.
By the way, the reception was perfect with the Morphy Richards too. Since I modified the AC/DC power supply by adding capacitors across the rectifier diodes, it is possible to listen to most DRM transmissions.
Good results again this weekend.
Simone
Good results again this weekend, seems the small dips are still there.
Simone
Lower SNR at the beginning on Sat, otherwise good results as usual.
Simone
Hi all.
Good signal on this freq. also.
Almost perfect reception.
Sines is almost without exception good here. At 0959 UTC I logged three FAC errors for some reason I can't explain.

Interference from an AM station 5 kHz higher:
Good results both days this weekend, still the regular small dips.

Hi all,
Good results with large SNR fluctuations due to QRM.
Good results again.
Simone
Not so good results today :(
Simone
Some dropouts today.
Simone
Good signal on this freq. today.
Strong AM start on freq.12.000 Mhz 0900 UTC and splattring.
Hi,
Excellent reception at my location as well. Just a short log, 22 minutes.
09:03-09:25 UTC.
Perfect signal on this freq. today.
Not so strong signal stringth.
Pretty good results today.
Simone
Good results in 30 minutes but SNR was not very high today.
I enjoyed the Portuguese music in the "Friendship Club" / "Clube da amizade".
Hi all.
Good signal today, but RDP transmitt same program in pararell over 2 AM station on 12020 and 12000 Khz . LSB on AM give splatter in over DRM cannel. 12000 Khz stop transmission 0958 UTC . Audio is delay with 10sek from AM to DRM in my speker !!!!!!!!!!!!
A few dropouts this weekend, but still OK for listening.
Simone
Good during the 49 minutes I logged.
Pretty good results apart from the regular small Tx related dips, one can also be seen in results from Digger.
Simone
Good results as usual.
Simone
Just for fun I looked at the SNR from RDP for a while this morning and then changed to 13.810 MHz and noted a big difference in signal quality. I wonder if this was because of the different antennas used (?) or just the azimuth of the TX? The 2 MHz difference in frequeny could have been the cause? I doubt that.
Digger
Maybe is the antenna gain . The power is the same, the TX and antenna are similar, and the azimute is 40º from Portugal for 13810, and 45º for RDP. But for 11Mhz we working in low band HR4/4/0,5 config, and in 13 MHz we working in HR4/4/1,0 config high band. The gain is about 3 ou 4 dBd higher in high band, The PAR will be at last double

Perfect results this weekend, apart from these small dips on this transmission.

Good reciption from S6/S7 but Sines AM transmitter on 12.0Mhz for RDP give dropouts in QSB down !!!! More problem start 0930 from AM on 11990.

Hi All
Here's my log of RDP from here in NZ today. This seems much better than last season, though reception seems to be pretty good today.

Hi Owdjim and all,
An almost perfect log here. The programme is not exactly the most interesting though...
An unattended log with almost perfect decoding despite a lot of fluctuation in the SNR.
Good results both days this weekend.
Simone
One drop-out I cannot explain, otherwise perfect despite A:21 and K:4.

Hi all,
Very weak signal today. First graph with both SWs.
Good results both days.
Simone
One period with slightly weaker signal. Otherwise quite good.
here my results with a short test from Sines to northern germany
first 3 min : 1m wire with 1:9 unun (homebrewed)
short wire was close to window abt 1m over ground
(this would be a typical holiday receive setup in your hotel)
results around 20db with no dropouts
next 5 min : 10m wire with the same unun
wire was outside window about 2m over ground in some bushes
(this would be a short and simple home receiving setup)
results around 28db with no dropouts
last 5 min : 170m deltaloop fed with ladderline and 1:9 balun
loop is around my property about 10-12m over ground in some trees
(dx receiving possible with this monster)
results ..... incredible 36db ! !
(personal record was 42.6 db with a different station)
as you can see very easy you need a good antenna for good results BUT even with a very low and short antenna you can have perfect copy from a transmitter that is 3000km away from you :)
Some dropouts at the beginning yesterday, better results today.
Simone
Not so stable today, but with aurora=9, A:36 and K:5 that can be understood.
The Doppler was extremely high for a while in the beginning, which caused a few audio dropouts. Later on it became more stable.
Quite good results both days, still the small Tx related dips.
Simone
Good results again this weekend.
Simone
Quite good results with the usual small dips.

Unattended log, good result:
Yesterday's log had one audio dropout and today's log had three, at 08:36, 08:44 and 09:42 UTC. The first one at 08:36 UTC was not a TX failure, the rest I don't know, as I was not in the room.

Unattended log:
Switched on late, heavy rain started, nearby lightning and had to shut down all equipment. Too many megaohm/meter in my garden for comfort. A very short log. By the way, A:27. Not the best in the way of conditions.

Hi all,
Most of the time weak signal (< 30dBuV) + low SNR. Some deep dropouts caused by an instant broadband QRM.

Close to perfect today too.
Perfect results both days this weekend apart from the usual dips.
Simone
Are these the same dips? Otherwise perfect reception.
... And almost perfect on Sunday too.
My last log for Sines DRM: The last five minutes... :(
Unfortunately I had to leave 10 minutes before the programme started, so this last log from Sines was unattended. But it was perfect. Well, ALMOST perfect.
