View Full Version : Voice of Russia on 7325
Hi,
the Voice of Russia is on air now on this new frequency in German.
Strange label but strong signal.
Edit: Just added the log. A strong AM station began broadcasting at 1300 UTC on the same frequency and killed the DRM signal.
Looks like it was a transmission from Kaliningrad: http://kaliningrad.rtrn.ru/news.asp?view=10450
Kai Ludwig reports in A-DX that there might be a transmission at 2000 and 2300 UTC on 6105.
Indeed, on the air now on 6105. Here's the log. Strong QRM and fading, so 8,45 % CDA only.
Hi all.
Short log from 7325. small part of audio !!!!

Hallo,
hervorragendes Signal mit großer Konstanz.
Die TX-Parameter in DRMCalc scheinen nicht zu stimmen.
Wolfgang Hartmann
Thanks for adding this transmission to the official DRM schedule.
PERFECT reception right now, 28 dB SNR. Bitrate could increased a bit, 14 kbps sounds quite "special"... audio level is a bit high.
Just heard this new frequency in the program -> offical?!
Good results today. Audio level is still a bit too high.
Good results today, 99% CDA for 135 minutes.
Good results again but bad audio-quality as usual. But anyway, it was worth listening to! Voice of Russia had a small joke-session today... haha. ;)

Reception quite good in the car, but the audio quality is very poor!
The sound is compressed, clipped, distorted, simply not suitable for DRM.
And even more this constant terrible background noise in the story about Novgorod (they think it is music) was a real torture.

Good rf signal, SNR Maximum [dB]: 40.7 :D
Still regular resyncs on my side using VAC. :o
Audio level still much too high, sound is compressed and clipped!

Bad audio quality also out of the car hifi speakers, bitrate too low.
Strong mumbling noise behind voices and music sounds very distorted.
First log on the Russian broadcast: Quite good - Nice to see them in the air on this frequency, one of the good ones here. Audio quality is not perfect at 14.06 kbps, but I think it's okay.
Later I tuned to KBS so the second part of the log will be added later. Unfortunatly, this log will start with CPU overload and a nice drop-out while uploading the first log right now.
Edit: Just added the second part - perfect! :)

Strange result:
SNR was changing between exceptionally high and low. During the low periods the snr spectrum behaved like in a thunderstorm, but I could see nothing like that in the panadapter.
SNR Maximum [dB]: 42.5
If the result is right that was a new record for my Flex-5000A. :)
I'll check tomorrow if I can repeat that.
The audio was in low quality at very high level. :D

Excellent rf signal with low audio quality.
After fixing a contact problem in my pc the result is stable again with the usual resync problem of the virtual audio cable software.
SNR Maximum [dB]: 42.5 :) :D
Yeah, that was good.
Compared to the very early DRM transmissions from this site, the audio-quality was good, too...
I did not know the Voice of Russia had a session with jokes in it's German broadcast!

Today I tested to compare the old results achieved with "Virtual Audio Cable" software with results from a real audio cable with two 3.5mm plugs.
Guess what? The real cable was even better today!
SNR Maximum [dB]: 42.8 !!! New record for my setup! :D
Hi all,
Good reception today.

Propagation getting weaker during the last hour at my distance:
Hi,
Also at my location the reception degraded at the middle of listening. Time: 12:48-13:33 UTC, i.e. both German and Russian programs. CDA: 57%.

Very good again, SNR [Maximum] dB: 42.4 :)
The distance is wrong in DRMcalc.
Hi,
Up and down, both result and signal level
So 36 minutes, 11:52-12:28 UTC, gave just 22 % CDA.

Hi all,
Results for today.
Jos.
My first log on this frequency. One deep fade-out caused the 100 % CDA to become 99.99% - well... The max. SNR was 37.9 dB with my Yaesu FRG-7700. :)

Hm, only 38.1 dB here, but there was a lot of Fading today.
FritzWue
18-01-2010, 00:23
Terje, I think 38 dB SNR is an excellent result for a Yaesu FRG-7700!
I only got 34 dB SNR with my Yaesu FT-840. :o
Hi Fritz and all,
The signal from "Label Service 0" (VOR) was more unstable today maybe because 7 MHz is close to MUF over the distance to the TX. Still I got almost 39 dB SNR with my old work-horse FRG-7700, which I bought in Japan 20th Nov. 1982. The other receivers I use do not match the FRG by far, but they receive DRM without problems anyway. This TX peaked at 40.96 dB SNR here in May last year.

Hi all,
Completely out of target area I got the attached result. Not bad.
I logged between 9 - 13 UTC. Around 13 UTC I noticed that there was an AM station on the frequency, so I stopped logging.
Almost perfect here this morning. The SNR dip around 1210 was me switching off the light in my office.

I can't get the signal strengths I used to have here in the Autumn any more
I caught another Solar Flare in this log, a C 4.3 flare just around 12 UTC. I just came in and notiched that the SNR was rather low, so I stopped the log. After that I looked at
http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/rt_plots/xray_1m.html
and saw the reason why. ;)

Good reseption!
During the first minutes my FORD CD6000 car hifi system was on and gives reduced snr.
I can disconnect everything between perseus+notebook and the car audio setup, but as soon as any audio is audible from the car speakers I see a raised noise level on 41m. Seems as if the CD6000 is using some 7 MHz switchmode supply or modulation.
After a long time of DRM absence, here is a log of this transmission from drmdab - with very good results!

265 minutes of reception. Good or bad I can't say, as I think my whip had come loose from the antenna during the storm today. Well...
Today's log looks much the same as yesterday's. Tomorrow I'll try my Roadstar instead. The log was mostly unattended.
A test with two receivers on the same antenna. The Channel Impulse Response was not very good at the beginning. After 13 UTC the reception was perfect. I wanted to compare the two receivers, therefore I left out the bit after 13 UTC. The FRG-7700 performed better with 92% decoded audio; the Roadstar logged 72%.
Another log comparing the FRG-7700 and the RF-B60, the latter with an improved 100 VAC power supply. Yes, in Japan they use 100 VAC, 60 Hz (where I reside, 100 V, 50 Hz a bit further east  ).
Great results for five hours today.
Simone
Quite good results in this (mostly unattended) 258 minutes long log. 99.6% decoded audio. The SNR with this receiver has improved with the new Power Supply. Hum in the DC affects both the active antenna and the receiver and the converter as well.
Roughly the same result today, but the log is not as long as the previous one.
Oops, I had one more log from this morning too...
278 minutes of good decoding. The Doppler curve is pretty rough.

You can kill the HUM in the DC completely, as you know, by just having 0.1uF capacitors across the diodes of the bridge or full wave rectifier. an essential need for Radio and for audio power supplies.
[QUOTE=mvs sarma] 0.1uF capacitors across the diodes of the bridge...[QUOTE]
Yep, I have practiced that since 1975 ! ;)
Today's Doppler log looks the same as the previous log of mine. Probably a propagation issue. The log is almost 4 hours long.
Almost 5 hours today and the same bumpy Doppler but more than 99% CDA. :)

Unstable propagation, low audio quality, SNR Max. 42.5 dB:
First log spans the same segment as FritzWue's; the only difference is that my SNR never recovered after 14 UTC. It looks like something must have begun modulating on a nearby channel.
The second log is my whole 326 minutes log from today. It was unattended.
Good reception today too.
