hopefully the signal will reach Europe well. At 20UTC we will start with Spanish BC, Monday to Friday with the interactive live program: "Pura Vida". Weekends Pre-recorded PXs.
21 to 22 UTC Low-German and German programing.

Another try :). Thanks to MaxPower for his help checking the 19 m-band.
Starting 21th of November 2008 we transmit in DRM on 15280 kHz between 1100 and 1300 UTC with 4000 W. We are using a rhombic, Azimut 35/225 (Europe and Australia).TX-Site is still Pifo - Ecuador.
Schedule: Monday to Friday 1100 to 1200 UTC Spanish (Music from Ecuador and Newscast). 1200 to 1300 UTC Low-German and German.
Saturday and Sunday 1100 to 1130 UTC Spanish and 1130 to 1300 UTC Low-German and German.

Very nice to get some signal from pifo here in europe! :)

I got a mixed result at my place today. The log was unattended and with the longwire only, because I#ve to repair the delta first. So I think the result can be much better if I can optimize tuned frequency and the antenna the next days.

Much better results than on the old frequency, where I hardly ever got sync.
Some multipath problems today and IR longer than in the past , but should be OK to continue in mode A.
Transmitted time was a couple of minutes ahead of UTC.

Changing to the almost repaired Delta gives better, but not perfect signal strength: 76% audio at day 2 on 15280.

I had some strong local noise problems from the House-Boiler and someone working with a driller. :mad:

Stephan asked me if there is a posibility to change our release into the evening hours. What do you think about 20 - 22 UTC? The SN's seem OK for this frame in the 19 m-band. Just looking if we could keep the 15280 kHz... Interference from Asia between 20-21 UTC?

Hello Horst,

here in northwestern Germany at the dutch border that part of the band is pretty busy until 20:00 UTC. Then there is only one station left on 15235 kHz. I am not sure if that not stable weak buzzing noise in the usb of 15280 kHz is a local source as it is gone in the late evening. Anyway it is not a real problem. Attached is a series of screenshots of my Flex-5000 panadapter.

Today not much fun at noon.
Reception almost impossible, DREAM finally crashed.
There was a strange signal on frequency, zipped mp3 recording of usb 200-5000 Hz is attached.

15285 kHz was free a few days ago, now there is a very wide AM station on 15295 kHz in the evening, zipped mp3 audio attached.
15280 kHz or lower would be OK...

we will change the time this Wednesday. Still 15280 kHz starting 2000 utc with the 1 hour program in Spanish (we take our program what is on MW) and 2100 utc 1 hour Low-German/German. Hopefully the time is not too late for you. I checked the HFCC and ILG database. The nearest is Jarkarta in Arabic. But it sounds more like Portugese.

Hi Horst,

some great parts, some bad parts but good audio-quality all the time. Liked the Spanish broadcast, even I did not understand anything. Visited a Spanish-course last year, actually only to meet some friends ;)

New label for me today, but wrong language mentioned. All in all, good reception. I had to stop logging a bit earlier due to strong QRM of some electronic devices next to me.

Good reception here, much better and stronger than at noon! :)
Changed from 48 to 96 kHz RX sample rate to show a wider part of the band in the panadapter.
The SNR seems to be limited by the TX, good audio quality for that bitrate.

Hi all!

Here's my log for today from the Voice of the Andes' DRM Transmission recorded at my temporarily location in Quito, Ecuador. :)

And as I got about 20 or more dB SNR in the northwest of germany I had lots of difficulties to get more than 10 dB here.

Look at the impulse response :eek: (QTH maybe 25 km away or so from Pifo) and additionally I've almost no antenna (which gives lots of room for improvement next days)

A little bit crazy: I'm currently in Quito and log the DRM transmissions with my remote receiver in Germany. :D

And, what shall I say: I get much better reception results in Germany than I get here about 15-20 km from Pifo away. :eek: That's shortwave...

SNR got up the later the time got. about 22dB at the end. 99.98% correct decoded audio thru the 45 minutes I logged. :)

Now, here is a demonstration of what a Noise Blanker can do to suppress PLC noise: Like I said, new neighbours dragged in a PLC home network two weeks ago which generates pulses, when in idle, that are spaced 40 ms, which blankets the short wave bands completely here from 6 - 28 MHz. The amateur bands seem to be notched out, as there is little or no noise in those bands. My antenna sits about 30 m away from the suspected (or should I say "infected") house.

Tonight's log was taken without and with the Noise Blanker, and luckily for me, the results with the N.B. switched on was positive!

The problem is that th N.B behaves differently on different bands and with different input signal levels. This remains to be tested.

Just received a very nice e-mail from Quito with the information that Pifo will be on the air in DRM until November 15th 2009 only. So still about two weeks remain to catch Ecuador in digital modulation on shortwaves.

(Actually I heard some other DRM rumour is going on at Voz Andes Media... ;) )
