Hi all,
BNR is now on 11900 kHz, I will add a log later.
EDIT: Log added: Out of the target area so bad results, but the signal reached up to ~50 dBuV with deep (~30 db) fading, good sound.
Bad results here too. Max SNR is 13 dB.
Edit: Log of the last minutes added.
BNR low signal stringth and 23,20kbps !!!!!!! very bad .
And very strong AM on 11895 and 11905 .
Mixed results here too. Why use such a high bit rate for a Mono transmission? Some QRM from an AM TX 5 kHz down. The signal was quite weak sometimes causing the audio dropouts. Max. SNR was >26 dB in the very last minute of the log.
A seldom seen DRM configuration this morning. 9 kHz and 18.06 kbps instead of yesterday's 23.2 kbps. Good decoding after some audio problems with low level and a "pumping" sound during the first few minutes. After 10:15 reception deteriorated and when I switched off I noticed a terrible racket caused by a defective (?) AM TX on 11.935 MHz which covered more or less the whole 25 m band.

Hi all,
A short log today but with much better results. Stable signal, lower BR and BW.
Hi all.
Very good today for 18,06 kbps and BW 9Khz. Log is 60min. :)
If somebody would think of solving the problem with the AM (?) TX on 11.935 MHz that spews noise and hum hundreds of kHz around, then my BNR log would have looked even better.
A much better result today. SNR peaked at >29 dB at 10:57 UTC.

Hi all,
A problematic result with some good and bad periods, fast and deep fading, less than 600km close to the TX site and out of the target area.

Some chatter from a utilities monitoring group I belong to indicates that the bad transmitter on 11935 was probably a BSKSA (Saudi) system going bad. It was noted with spurs and horrific audio from 11910 to 12150kHz, and is now off-air. They noted it for at least the last two days, which coincides with the start of BNR.
@Brendan: As for Saudi that is correct. But I doubt anyone down there cares at all.
Just for comparison, the same TX on 15.435 MHz produced a wall-to-wall racket from 14.580 MHz to 16.150 MHz (!) yesterday afternoon.
Anyway, good reception on 11900 kHz this morning, only some minor decoding problems around 10 UT. I stopped the log after that. I am a bit unfamiliar with the language :D

An unattended log. I left the log running and here are the results, bad results after 09:45.
@ Brendan & Digger: I noticed that also here, trying to receive biteXpress on 15896 kHz.

Hi all.
Log her is 69min. And signal stringth was very good only fast Fading 5 times .
BW of 9Khz is very good , carrier from AM+ /- 5 Khz come not in DRM specterum .
I have only small splatter from QRM Tx on 11935 for low signal stringth S7 .
Better results, but only 40 % CDA. Sometime AM QRM, interesting pattern for the last 15 minutes. :(

Hi all,
I started logging at 06:55 for about 2 hours and here is a mostly unattended log. Around 08:50 the signal sunk in the noise.
The log was mostly unattended. I noticed that the signal was fading away around 09 UT, but then it came back 10 minutes or so later. The same happened for a longer period around 1050 when there was no decoding. During the very last minutes there was a carrier on the frequency, but the DRM could be heard under this carrier. 4 h 36 min and 77% CDA.

It started not bad, but at about 9.45 fun was over and signal disappeared in the noise.
Perfect reception today. :)

CDA >99%, but the audio quality is affected by a popping audio compressor.
B 9kHz is fine, helps against AM +/-5kHz with narrow filter.
That data transmitter on 11935 kHz is splattering all over the band reducing SNR when on.
Except for the two local CPU overloads, the reception was perfect.
@ Fritz: The "Data Transmitter" is probably "AM" from Riyadh
Hi All,
today on 9700 Khz at 13.05 Utc
73
Pretty good results today.
Simone
Very good results today. Some very short dropouts, but hardly any loss of audio decoding. The 9 kHz concept should be implemented by other stations too. It allows one to use a narrower IF filter and the reception is therefore less prone to QRM from the adjacent channels.
Very good reception. I noticed at 09:25 UTC that the audio level was about 25 dB lower than normal. It was still at the same level at 11:20. The rest was unattended.
Hi Ventsislav and all,
My log starts a little too late this morning. Today there was nothing wrong with the audio level. The few minor decoding problems were because of Fading. Especially around 11:50 UTC there was a deep fade-out and the RF signal dipped to about 18 dBµV for a short time. On the average the RF input signal was around 27 dBµV, topping at 32 dBµV.
Hi all.
Good signal on this freq. also in Sweden only deep fading 0929. Log is 62min. :)
Hi,
Despite that the optimum frequency for this Tx should be around 12 MHz, I only achieved a CDA of 29%.
Time: 08:11 - 08:51 UTC.
A very good result except around 09:20 UTC when there was a period with Fading and sudden signal drops. In the beginning until ISS closed down at 07:30, there was some AM splatter from 11.905 MHz.
One hour with perfect reception.

Hi all,
All dropouts due to heavy fading.
Some Fading in the beginning of the transmission, but it improved quickly. A very good log.
Some more dropouts over here, but not too bad overall.
Simone
Some minor dropouts mainly because of Fading. Otherwise very good today too.
Much better results than on 9700 kHz before.
Simone
A nearly perfect log. The lower SNR is because I forgot to switch my AGC to "slow". I have no explanation for the peaks in the SNR between 09:26 and 10:15 UTC. Just before the end of the transmission I switched to slow AGC which caused a dip and a short audio drop-out.
Rather good results apart from two deep dips in the graph.
Simone
Almost perfect again. 11 MHz is definitely more stable than the 9 MHz QRG.
A very good log; the only minor drop-outs were caused by Fading.
Some quite good periods today, but also some dropouts.
Simone
Hi,
Not so good at my location, CDA just 17 % during 50 minutes.
Time: 07:29-08:19 UTC.
Similar conditions today. A somewhat weak signal (at least towards the end) caused minor dropouts.
It would be very interesting to compare this broadcast in Mode B with Mode A.
Some dropouts, not too bad overall.
Simone
The signal was a little stronger today I thought. The log would have been perfect if the CPU in my PC would not keep getting overloaded when switching between applications... grrr...
Problems from 0700- 0730, quite good for the rest of the time.
Simone
An unattended log. The two drop-outs around 10 UT were probably local PC overloads.
Some dropouts at 0950- 1000, rather good for the rest of the time.
Simone
Almost perfect reception.
Some minor dropouts today.
Simone
Almost perfect reception. Again. And a couple of minutes "overtime"... ;)
Don´t know what caused the deep dip at 1006, good results today.
Simone
Shortly after 7 UTC there was AM QRM from +5 kHz, but this weakened later and then almost disappeared. The rest of the log is nearly perfect.
An unattended log. Almost perfect result. Probably some interference at the end.
Only some minor dropouts today.
Simone
Perfect reception for 2 h 50 min.
Some dropouts as usual.
Simone
Almost perfect reception. Some minor dropouts due to signal variations.
Perfect reception this morning in this mostly unattended log over 179 minutes with Dream 1.7.9cvs.
Quite good results today.
Simone
Good results again today.
Simone
A weak signal or bad propagation conditions this morning. The log is only 44 minutes long, as I needed the sound card for other purposes.
Hi all.
Good signal from BNR in Sweden but only 18min log for 0700UTC start Arabic super splatter TX on 11905. This TX gig splatter down to 11895 !!!!!

Arabic TX only 0700-0730.
Log Nr2 65min. Her start very strong Wobbler TX swep from 11875 to 11925 start 0757. Only 3min.
Lots of dropouts today.
Simone
Good signal but Arabic AM on 11905 splattring under 30min. 0700-0730.
Log today 100min.
This morning I logged simultaneously with the FRG-7700 and the Roadstar TRA-2350P. The FRG-7700 feeds the office PC and the TRA-2350P uses an ACER laptop. Both have Dream 1.6.1cvs installed. The telescopic antenna is used for the TRA-2350P, which is placed near a window.
BNR was unreliable on the TRA-2350P mainly due to a weak signal. The overall CDA stopped at 68.4% on the TRA-2350P and 99.9% for the FRG-7700.
Hi all.
Her is 80min log very good signal only drop outs for strong local QRM 2 time.
This log is from RX R390A/URR and her is AGC OFF . It is fading from S7 to S9+10db. :) :)
An about two hours long log, which is a comparison between the Roadstar TRA-2350P and the Yaesu FRG-7700. The Roadstar managed around 54% CDA.
Today only the FRG-7700. Very good despite the propagation conditions. I looged with the Roadstar too, but the signal is a bit too weak for that receiver (in its present location)...
Perfect reception today! :)
A few dropouts, not bad overall.
Simone
Good signal in Sweden only small QSB S7/S9. Log 116Min.
Around 90% CDA on the Roadstar. The log is 181 minutes.
Not so good until 0845 today.

Hello,
First at all on behalf of Spaceline, technically responsible for the DRM transmissions of BNR i would like to say 'thanks' to all of you, monitoring our service. We found the forum (and the opinion of all of the members) to be very good and valuable guide to the technical quality and foture developments we shall do.
As it seemed up to now, the service is well performing for its power and antenna used, but as many of you asked, and also as we find this reasonable too, as of Today, we have changed the transmission mode to 'A' and the bit-rate is a bit increased. Also some changes on the audio chain were been done too.
It would be interesting to know what the change is on the reception side - and we will be glad to gather your opinion.
Greetings from Sofia,
Ventsi - de LZ1HST

Hi all,
A result at SQ: > 99%, all dropouts due to fading (too close to TX site and out of target area), much better sound, over 13 kHz BW.
I noticed the change to Mode A when I switched over to BNR just before 9 UTC. I was a little bit surprised by the jump in the bitrate, but the reception was near to perfect anyway. The signal in the first half of the log was a steady +34 dBµV into the antenna socket from my active antenna. There was some slow QSB, but the CDA was 99.8% despite two periods with a weaker signal around 1050 and 1145 UTC. The max. SNR was about 2 dB lower than in the log from last Thursday.
Hi all.
I start log 1020 UTC and signal stringth was good but 1100 propagation totaly brake down and now only S5 to 1130 signal stringth up again, 1200 S9+20db .
Mode A give perfect audio her also.
3 hours and 6 minutes log. There was a break in the beginning, but this log was unattended as I was out a couple of times this morning. Then at 1009 someone (guess who?) kicked a cord on the floor and pulled a plug so I lost the 12 kHz IF for a moment.
Comparing with the same time segment as Sixten's log, I got 100% CDA.
The music sounds great, but sometimes the spoken segments seem over-compressed.
How about reducing the bitrate to around 17-18 kHz after a week or so?
Basically mode A works fine on this transmission, but with the weak signal we need a more robust signal.
Simone

Thats what I would tend, too. Mode A works fine, but signal strength is a little bit to weak for 21 kBit in Mode A. How about the - used before- 18 kBit in Mode A? :)
Stephan
Pretty good results today, but still I would prefer to try 16 QAM MSC.

Hi,
Thanks for the active feedback from all of you. Meantime we will try to fix the problem with the 'overprocessed speech segments' - which makes sense.
As for the reduction of the bit rate, we will decide later - we may give a try to Mode A, 18 - 19 kbps next week.
We are sure 16 QAM for the MSC would work better, but the current setup does not allow us to use it with together with SBR, even in mode A, and the audio will suffer a lot.
Best Regards,
Ventsi
Hi Ventsi.
Her i short log from Sweden today. Log strat 1048 om S9 but 1125 I must stop for tunderstorm and signal stringth go down. But good audio from 21.08kbp. BW is 13khz.
Rather good results today.
Simone
Hi all.
Her log 70min . from 0730 UTC good signal . But not B4 0730 NHK Japan on 11905 to 0730.
My first try with the Roadstar at 59N/18E and the laptop on batteries (the power supply without 230 VAC Earth is very noisy). I got 79% CDA, but I need to try some other antenna configurations. The log was ended by a dead battery...
Results from yesterday and today.
Simone
Not sure what was wrong in the first 20 minutes, not too bad until 1100, more dropouts later.
Simone
Rather good results today.
Simone
Not bad today! :)
Good programe, by the way.
Quite good reception after the first 45 minutes this morning on my 20 m dipole antenna.
Not as good as yesterday.
I noticed some problems with the audiofeed.
Compared to yesterday's log today's was not at all that good.
Tried another antenna this morning. This log was taken with a 12 m wire 3 m above granite ground with my un-un box to coax. I noticed a lot of splatter from a station 5 kHz away.
About 95% CDA if you count from 0900 up until the end of the transmission.
Good results today.
Simone
A bit unstable reception this morning, mostly because a weak signal. I noticed some audio problems, sometimes noise at levels 30 dB lower than normal. The CDA was 77% for this log.
Much better reception today. >99% CDA, biggest problem was my stubborn Windoze Vista that crashed another application just after 1100.
Some dropouts today.
Simone
Pretty good results today.

Hi Ventsi and all,

Rather good results today.
Simone
I logged the whole transmission today from the beginning till the end. During the first hours the signal sometimes was a bit weak, but on the other hand I believe that I recorded the highest SNR ever with BNR today.
When I started the log this morning there was a hum from a TX either nearby or on the frequency that sounded like it wobbled ±20 kHz or so. This killed BNR totally until it suddenly disappeared just after 1000 UTC. I included two pictures of the input spectrum in the screenshot.
Problems in the first hour, then results improved.
Simone
The frequency was clear from the very beginning today and the reception was almost flawless. :)
Perfect reception today too. :)
Quite good results today.
