From tomorrow (Tuesday 9th) until Saturday (the 13th) CVC will be running a test broadcast in English to China on the following frequencies:

0400 - 0600 UTC 17780 kHz
0630 - 0800 UTC 17660 kHz
0800 - 1000 UTC 15285 kHz

This is to start testing our new DRM capabilities from Darwin, Australia and also to coincide with the "ITS 2007" Exhibition in Beijing.

If anyone is in the area and can provide feedback on the signal we would really appreciate it!

Thanks,

James

There was an (asian?) AM station on top but CVC was strong at start.
The transmitted time was about 5 minutes late.
Around 04:09 UTC the propagation conditions were suddenly gone.

After 05 UTC propagation came back with audio! :)
This time with text but no ID.
At 05:28 UTC a strong AM station started on 17785 kHz.

A little bit shaky in the middle, but this is the strongest DRM signal I've ever received by far and DRM beats AM hands down!

Thanks all of you for your feedback: it's especially encouraging to hear that it's getting to China so well as this is the first real DRM broadcast from Darwin, and it never ceases to amaze me how it can be picked up in places so off-beam.

:)

This should continue all week, and if things go well I hope we can start getting some regular DRM broadcasts to China and South-East Asia really soon.

Hi James,

I just checked Google Earth. Is this the TX location?
12°24'39.33"S 130°37'33.18"E
If so, are there curtains between the masts or logpers in front?

Yes - you found it! They're all curtains between the masts.

Today condition is not so good. From 04:50 UTC the signal takes a rapid turn from good to bad due to transient long IR , but signal strength maintains at S9 more or less.

BTW: the drop out indicated by the veritcal lines is due to my fault:I made some adjustments with the antennas.

Signal fade out just after I tune in to 17780. From S5 to S2.

I had some trouble with the drivers of my two soundcards in one pc this morning, so the two mini logs are not representative, sorry.
There was a strong AM carrier 17885 kHz during the last 30 minutes or so.

Some disturbances can be seen from the log file:It is due to the long IR in the previous post.If CVC is serious about tranmission to China, they should figure out ways to suppress the adverse scatter before the main peak.

perfect, this is what DRM should look like.

Sorry for uploading the log file so late after the test. This is due to difficult connection to this web site.

Generally, pefect result.Strong signal, much much stronger than DW and VOR which is closer in geographical positions.

BTW:I don't like this guerilla style broadcast schedule, can they make it a regular one?
