DRM is ready! Use it!
Las Vegas, Nevada – The development of the Digital Radio Mondiale ® system is successfully advancing, and now is the time to introduce this innovative technology to the broadcasting market. Today we are already facing the rapid spread of this unique technology, DRM transmissions and tests are on air in practically every continent.
At NAB this year, we will present to you the actual status of the DRM system, including important information on how to launch DRM transmissions and on the benefits of digital radio broadcasting using DRM. We will include a review of the receiver situation, offering a special welcome for receiver manufacturers who wish to extend their product range to DRM capable products. This year’s NAB seminar is called “DRM is ready! Use it!” and will be presented in five different time slots on April the16th, 17th and 18th. Long-time DRM member Continental Electronics will host the sessions at their NAB Exhibit Booth (LVCC North Hall 4, Booth 7706).
“DRM is ready! Use it” has been crafted to show the benefit for broadcasters, network operators, manufacturers, retailers and others involved in this technology. In one 50 minute session, DRM chairman Mr. Peter F. Senger will make a presentation, compiled from DRM officials and experts, on technical, commercial, regulatory and manufacturing aspects of Digital Radio Mondiale ®. In our seminar this year we will pay special attention to the receiver market, showing the unique benefits of DRM for receiver manufacturers intending to produce exciting new products. We will also host a Q&A session, so you can get personalized answers to your questions about DRM. Our specialists in transmitters, receivers, in the technical characteristics of the system, antenna issues and other topics will be on site to assist you.
There is no charge to attend “DRM is Ready! Use it!” seminar, but you may register and let us know which time suits you best by sending an email to pressoffice@drm.org before April 14, 2007. The times
are:
Monday, April 16: 11:30 AM - 12:30 AM and 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Tuesday, April 17: 11:30 AM - 12:30 AM and 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Wednesday, April 18: 11:30 AM - 12:30 AM
What’s more: you can personally experience the fantastic quality of the DRM system via live
DRM broadcasts into the area, which can be listened to at the Continental Electronic booth
during the time of the NAB show!
The 61st Annual NAB Broadcast Engineering Conference will feature a DRM-related presentation:
In the ‘Emerging Broadcast Technologies’ session on April 18 (9:00-9:30AM), Dr. H. Donald Messer will present “DRM Development and Implementation in the AM and FM bands”, which relates to combining Drm and analog transmissions in the AM band and the current development situation for Drm use in the broadcasting bands between 30 and 108 MHz.

- The DRM consortium welcomes a strategic step in the development of DRM capable receiver devices:

STMicroelectronics and Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS recently announced the signing of an agreement to jointly develop a dedicated low-power Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) for Digital Radio Mondiale ® applications such as fixed and portable radios, car receivers, software receivers, and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs). Allowing listeners to set their radio programmes using station names or IDs, the ASIC will offer excellent audio quality and integration of sound with data and text.
