Good reception again:

Time seems to be over, the signal was fading away:

Yipeeh, RNZI is coming back! :D

Less than yesterday.

Even a little bit of audio tonight! :)

Wanted to test the new antenna with a reflector, but then RNZI was off air after some minutes:

Some audio tonight, but then an abrupt end.

Obviously they switch the beam after the first hour, not good for europe:

Nothing during the first hour, very little during the second,
unknown AM station on frequency.

FritzWue

Can anyone identify this station please?
It is on 9890 kHz in AM.
Two zipped MP3 files attached:

Unfortunalty this AM station on frequency, probably Iran, is strongest on my cubical quad.
AM is weakest and SNR is best with my two inverted Ls fed as dipole.

The signal is at least 25 dB above noise, see 9920 kHz, but no chance to decode anything with three strong AM stations on frequency. :(

Not good at all here in Stockholm. Only a short log with very high Doppler. The DRM Schedule is confusing me - something is wrong somewhere...

Working with razorsharp 512-tap and notch filter squeezes some audio out of this transmission during the second hour. There are three AM stations in the 5 kHz grid ontop.

FritzWue

Today some audio during the first hour.
After switching antenna for the second hour the signal was a lot weaker and no more decoding possible here.

FritzWue

No reception during the second hour, strong AM ontop:

I switched between a 12m high vertical and 3 ele-quad both peaking 19m height today.
The results are disappointing, the vertical with elevated radials is better:

Too much interference after switching at 16:50 UTC.

Short test on this freq. strong signal but also 3 very strong AM in DRM cannel.

No second hour transmission today:

Short and good today:

FritzWue

Obviously the second hour was cancelled, see RNZI website, but nothing at all today?

FritzWue

No audio today:

At start of the season I hoped to get more out of this transmission,
but the interference on all three 5kHz grid frequencies simply is too strong.

FritzWue

Doppler way too high, after 16 UTC AM is all over the frequency.

Reception on 9890 kHz with the new schedule is better than expected.
I switched between two antennas several times, so the CDA is not representative.
Again I checked my 3-element cubical quad being matched and resonant on 9880 kHz against my non matched quarterwave groundplane with elevated radials for the 49m band.
On 31m this gp antenna has an improved vertical pattern for low angle radiation coming in and reducing higher elevation angles.
Although the RNZI signal is usually up to 20 dB stronger on the matched cubical quad, the DRM SNR is often better on the unmatched vertical.
I think the reason is that the phase coherence at low angles prefererably received by the groundplane is better than with the cubical quad which does not suppress higher angles that much leading to a reception mix of multiple hop propagations.

...and RNZI is lucky to have the highly linear VoR signal as neighbor and not the bad AIR rf signal.

Yesterday I was amazed by the fieldstrength. Today I am back in reality.
I think yesterday RNZI simply used the wrong antenna/direction with the new schedule.
