Hi all,

the signal was always at its limit with the HAM-yagi, 2 db lower with my omni directional antennas and no decoding at all then.
I think the signal comes over long path. The 2nd attachment attachment shows the SNR when I turned the antenna to short path (dip at -4 minutes). But I have to say "think" because I don t know the directivity of my HAM-yagi on this frequency.

Changed the settings in the F5k firewire driver, parameters in VAC, and even added some extra audio buffer in PowerSDR, but it does not seem to help. :confused:

Hi Everyone,

Here is last night's log from my experimental wideband loop combined with a zero IF I/Q detector. The loop amplifier and detector are mounted on the same board with the 14" loop directly wired to the amplifier. The unit is powered with 4 AA batteries. The IF out cable runs to the computer (located about six feet away).

For RNZI, the circuit uses a 39.46 MHz CMOS oscillator driving a 74HC4017 which controls a 74HC4066 switch to provide the I/Q signals. The HC4017 requires a voltage higher than 5.0 V in order to divide at these frequencies - and is not recommended for designs much above this frequency. I think I'll be looking at the LVC series for the next design iteration. (As an alternative, for higher frequencies, we could simply use the third harmonic of the fundamental to lower the local oscillator frequency; however, that would require more narrow filtering and would deliver lower signal levels).

Still, pretty encouraging results from such a simple circuit.

Maybe but your post made up my mind, I am going to stick to my original plan and mod my R-75 if the Elektor is really not that good over that long a distance. The DRM hiss of the transmission normally hits levels as high as S-9 but the best I can do with my unmodded receiver is some metadata decoding and that is basically it.

Terje, here the radiation pattern of the receiving antenna is nulling out the interference. I am lucky that one of my wires is running in the right direction. Reception is worse when I use both wires as a dipole or the other wire alone. :)

Very good (85.47% audio) except for the last half hour when an adjacent analog signal at 9865 kHz seemed to cause problems. Although the propagation may have changed at that time with the result that the adjacent station then started to appear.

When switching antenna at 10:58 UTC All India Radio is readable here in AM on frequency,
so my log is split into two parts for checking that.
The transmission to the northwest pacific after 11:00 UTC was better decodeable here. :)

Here in Switzerland the (most certainly) AIR was much stronger than the RNZI signal. AIR signed off seconds after 12 UTC. According to the list, there is only RNZI listed, but there you are. :rolleyes:

A report from France.

The result was better and better up to 11h30TU when Radio Vatican started their transmissions on 9865 kHz. Even with 14 to 15 dB of SNR, the receiver was not able to decode RNZI.

Here's my log for the first time in several days. Pretty good until the band closes, or AIR comes in strong here (I'm asleep normally when this is on, so I don't really know :rolleyes: ).

@ Fritz: I wonder what they mean with "AIR, its audio site that redefines internet broadcasting"? Do they plug the AC mains socket into the mike input there as well? :D

Here's last nights log. I found that Vatican Radio is booming in here on analog for the last hour with a broadcast in Italian for Latin America on 9865, and that would appear to be what's killing my reception here.

Log start 0850 from 44dbuV , 0919 up to 64dbuV=S9+30db ......:) :) :) :)
1039UTC peak AIR on S9 on aktive antenna so I switch over to INV.V Nr1. and AIR restrain -10db and DRM go on to 1129UTC , but now is AIR also up to S9+20db and DRM give very dropout. So I stop log her.

The decoding stopped at 11h30 when Radio Vatican started their AM transmissions on 9675 kHz !

This morning's reception report - 84.10% audio. The last half hour is down because of adjacent channel interference at 9865 kHz.

A very strong adjacent channel analog signal on 9865 kHz comes on at 11:30 and wipes out the last half hour of RNZI. :mad:
