Hi,
I'm interested in it.
Has anyone seen that Radio on a fair in action?
How long is the antenna?
Can I plug external antennas?
Is it possible to receive stations out of Europe?
Is there a cheaper offer than 299,- that even my grandma can buy ths radio?

T-Online are showing the radio as "immediately available" but you can't place an order to be delivered to an address outside Germany or Austria. I wrote to Deutsche Welle about this and got the following reply:
Dear Sir,
the radios are at the moment only available through T-Online-Shop: Link: http://tinyurl.com/ee8d2; but they could be delivered only in Germany or in Austria, even when they can be ordered form abroad.
It is planned that starting in November new ways for distribution of DRM receivers will be introduced for most of the European countrys - certainly including UK.
So please be patient for a while and be sure that Deutsche Welle and T-Online are working on a suitabel solution for their clients.
Kind regards

There are other shops than T-online in Germany, like one here in Hessen that I know of, which would also deliver to the UK, you would not get the 10€ DW discount though.

Seems 108 will provide a mod for battery operation, batteries, a larger whip areial and a ground socket, but might be better to wait for the Roberts model.
Today there is a post on the DRM-L site saying that for about 20 euro extra a shop in Germany will just mod the MR speaker socket for an antenna socket, but might void the warrenty. Seems some new sets now have this mod now in the factory anyway?
Also a post with a link to a Russian DRM/DAB set that might possibly use the same chipset as DAB is not used in Russia, with a car version late 2007.

Have you carried out the Sat-Schneider modifications, Nico?
I have, and I am most disappointed. Changing the two 7805 regulators to the switching controller has not reduced the supply current to 0.42A as stated in the information. The current remains at 0.72A.
Also, I find now that I am unable to use the original power unit. This 9V power unit provides an on-load voltage of 12V. With 12V, the radio only operates for a few seconds before it goes back into stand-by and then cycles between stand-by and On continuously.
To get the radio to work from an external supply, I have to use a 10V supply. However, 10V is insufficient to provide any charging current to the NiMh batteries.
As things are at present, I am unable to recommend the Sat-Schneider mod and am thinking of putting back the original 7805 regulators so I can use the original power supply and provide sufficient current to charge the batteries.
Does anyone else have any experience with the Sat-Schneider mod?

Hi David,
I did not make these modifications with the switching regulators. I would check if you did everything right, or make a call or mail to Sat Schneider and ask them. I'm shure that the trick to save energy with the regulators works.
My original 220V powersupply has 12V without anything connected.
I used my Morphy in the car with 12V directly from the cigaret-jack into the Morphy (instead of the 220V power supply). I take the stereo audio from the line-out and gives it to the Aux-in of the car radio (BMW318) in the middle console. The sound is great. With 240kW DRM I don't need an external antenne 15-20km around the transmitter. Now I added an external antenna jack (BNC) to the Morphy and will try at greater distances.
Simple installation for a 'DRM Car radio' isn't it? (no laptop needed)

Thank you, Nico. I am pleased to say that the problem with the Sat-Schneider modification has been solved. I had connected one of the regulators the wrong way round!
After correcting the fault, the radio is working to specification, both from the internal NiMh batteries and from the external supply. The total current is now 400mA compared with 720mA without the modification.

That looks fine, Martin OK1MJO, but our band in the UK is 10100 to 10150 kHz. I note that you are using 10725 kHz. Do you have 10725 kHz available for amateur use in the Czech Republic?

Don't problem, i found home random crystal at 10712kHz and used.
PA (only IF) is -20dBm to 10cm wire-antenne :) .
Coverage is only 1m from TX antenna.
Yes, 10100-10150kHz in CZE is same range as in GB.
I preparing wide crystal filter (14kHz) to my Icom 718 for standard HAM transmitting.

Thank you N_Scheer for that information. I have uploaded the latest firmware and the receiver is working fine.
I have just one query which someone may be able to help....
The advertised specification for the 27024 shows the AF Output to be 4W RMS, but the box that my radio came in shows it as 2.5W RMS output. Does anyone know the reason for that? Which one is correct?
David
Do you know about any other HAMs broadcasting in DRM?
Greetings
The advertised specification for the 27024 shows the AF Output to be 4W RMS
David
Hi David,
I checked on Short Wave in AM mode with 60% modulation and I measured only 0.97 V (RMS) over the 4 Ohm loudspeaker with the volume control turned to maximum.
On FM with 20 kHz deviation (the maximum my Schlumberger can manage :p ) I measured 0.90 V RMS over the 4 Ohm loudspeaker.
In DRM mode I got 1.50 Volts over the 4 Ohm loudspeaker.
All voltages were measured with a 1000 Hz tone. And that is even far off the 2.5 Watts...

I've just installed the software update on my RX (not without problems - the SD card doesn't make contact unless I push it right in so that it's flush with the panel surface and hold it there by hand - has anyone else had this problem?). I was told it would improve the MW performance, but there's no change - however, the MW perfprmance seemed to be OK in the first place, so I suppose that's no surprise! What other benefits is it supposed to confer? Apart from being able to check the tecnhnical parameters of the transmission (which I must admit I like), nothing seems to have changed.

Maybe you already had a more up-to-date version of firmware than I had, Richard. I find that one of the advantages of the upgrade is being able to selectively choose which modes to autoscan (DAB, FM, DRM, AM). I don't recall my receiver autoscanning AM prior to the upgrade.
As I have mention on the Yahoo group, my only minor complaint with the new version is the operation of the backlight. I would like an option to have the backlight permanently on except when the receiver is on stand-by. That is how it worked before.

Thanks, David. I think mine must have been a very early version, because it didn't have the "Advanced" option on the menu - I had to go through a re-powerup with the card in to get it to upgrade. I agree with you about the backlight! The only other change I've noticed apart from being able to view the tecnical parameters of the transmission is the fact that, when searching, it now diplays a number to show how far it's got. You say it's now possible to select which modes it auto scans - how do you do that?
By the way, I got over my problem with getting the card to stay in - it must have just been a stiff spring which kept throwing it back out at first!

Menu - Stations - Autoscan, then select which of the modes you wish to scan.
Glad you have sorted out the SD card. I had a feeling that might be the problem.

I've just done the update today and compared to the software on the Radioscape module fitted in my year old Roberts there are numerous improvements.
Some of the things I like that are new to me:
Favourite stations list
AFS data indication on screen
AFS searching – tells you how many AF it is going through and that it is searching
Backlight – can select on, off (great if you want to extend battery life – my one has the Sat Services modifications) or timeout, although as pointed out in an earlier post in on mode its always on even when Radio is in standby.
Ability to select what bands search is done in
Better integration of DAB/DRM/AM/FM in stations list
I’m sure there are a whole load of other changes but those were the ones I noticed & liked.

With the new firmware I find that if the radio is left on standby, after a while the display changes from showing the clock to displaying the station information of the station to which the radio was last used. The menu, etc, can then be used even though the set is still in standby. I am wondering whether this bug is a consequence of me having carried out the Sat-Schneider mod.
Are you getting this effect, James?

Apologies if this is old info, but as I'm new to this forum I don't know what's already been said! There seem to be some features on the M-R radio which are not mentioned in the handbook. I now know of two, one mentioned in a review I read and the other which I've found myself. The review (in the 2007 "Radio Listener's Guide") mentioned that holding the "Menu/Select" knob in for more than two seconds switches the radio to manual tuning, which is a lot quicker than going there via the menus - you get out of manual tuning again by pressing "Back". The other unmentioned feature is that, while playing a recording from the SD card, you can wind forward and back through it by turning the "Menu/Select" knob. Are there any other such "hidden" features?

No I don't see this, I only see the clock in standby mode, but I will keep an eye out for this "feature".
