Hi all,

I have posted it again on another thread (a wrong one), but I thought it would be more proper to open a new thread. So here it is:

I am trying to run two instances of Dream, so I have done the following:

The main program is in D:\Dream161 and I created two subdirectories, LEFT and RIGHT in Dream161 directory,

Then I created 3 shortcuts:

1. A shortcut for the main program:
Target = "D:\Dream161\Dream.exe"
Start in = "D:\Dream161"

2. A shortcut for left channel decoding:
Target = "D:\Dream161\Dream.exe -c 0"
Start in = "D:\Dream161\LEFT"

3. A shortcut for right channel decoding:
Target = "D:\Dream161\Dream.exe -c 1"
Start in = "D:\Dream161\RIGHT"

When I run one of the above I cannot run any other, the system displays the attached image. My soundcard is an on board SoundMax and pc runs W2kpro.
Is there any solution to the problem?

John

Although the Dream-support forums http://drm.sourceforge.net/forums/ would be a better place to post your question:

In Dream (on WinXP) under Settings -> Sound Card selection -> Sound In, I can select either the sound card directly or the default sound device.
Does it make any difference if you select the other or is there no such setting in W2k?
The setting is stored as a number in the Dream.ini file.

There is also this setting in W2k, but it does not make any difference.

Hi John,
could you please post this part of all the Dream.ini files:

[Receiver]
...
snddevin=3
snddevout=2

Are you usiing any other applications that use the soundcard?
Can you run Dream and FhG SWR at the same time?

Hi Simone and all,

When FhG SWR is running I cannot run Dream. I receive the known ERROR message. When Dream is running I can run FhG SWR with no spectrum and output and no ERROR message. Then stopping Dream nothing changes except I close and re-run FhG SWR.
Now about Dream.ini :

Main program:
[Receiver]
.......
snddevin=0
snddevout=0

Left:
[Receiver]
.......
snddevin=0
snddevout=-1

Right:
[Receiver]
.......
snddevin=-1
snddevout=0

I don't use any other application.

Hi John,
seems to be a problem with your soundcard driver of the onboard sound, not allowing the multitasking, you could look for an update or maybe there are some settings that can be changed on your system, hard to say. But most likely I guess there is no other way than installing a soundcard.

Hi Simone and all,
Are there any tested soundcards ? If you don't want to name them here, send me a PM. Thanks,

John.

Knowing that this is not really an option for you, I can only say that my onboard AC97 (CMI9739A) sound chip, driven from a SIS7012 audio controller (in the motherboard chipset) does work very well.
It allows me to run several instances of Dream when I choose the soundchip directly in the Sound In / Sound Out settings. It however does not allow several instances of Dream when Primary Playback / Primary Capture Device, ie the windows default mixers are selected (using the latest Dream version).
