Excellent reception last night.
Brendan1
17-08-2010, 05:00
Excellent reception once we got past the earliest minutes: the band was not very steady at first. SF85, A5, K0.
Brendan1
19-08-2010, 00:12
Not bad the last two nights. :)
Logger showed no signal here overnight on 15720 (and nothing on 11675 and 7440 either).
Brendan1
20-08-2010, 22:49
Zyg - the 19th was the RNZI shutdown for transmitter work. I didn't get anything either...
Last night wasn't as bad however, so I do have a log to post. The band wasn't perfect, so some dropouts did occur.
Brendan1
21-08-2010, 17:18
Nearly perfect last night.
Brendan1
22-08-2010, 15:23
Excellent up to a point, then the band faded.
Brendan1
24-08-2010, 12:55
Hmmm, some transmitter issue kept them off air for most of my logging period.
A (non-decodable) signal appeared in the last 10 minutes.
Brendan1
25-08-2010, 14:07
The band wasn't always great, but overall it was a good evening.
The overnight poor reception report.
Brendan1
26-08-2010, 23:43
Very good, only the ends showed anything less then perfect.
Logger received no signal overnight :(
Brendan1
27-08-2010, 15:06
Started the log earlier yesterday. I don't know what caused the huge drop around 0400; most likely it was propagational in nature.
Almost nothing overnight.
Brendan1
28-08-2010, 16:36
Nothing at all here last evening.
Better than the previous night, but still very low.
Brendan1
29-08-2010, 14:11
Excellent for most of my logging period, but the band did fade-out towards the end.
Logger received no signal. :(
Brendan1
30-08-2010, 12:53
Nearly perfect last evening. :)
Brendan1
31-08-2010, 12:48
Nearly perfect again.
Logger showed no signal. :(
Almost missed the little blip of signal at 02:44!
The VOACAP model indicates that RNZI 15720 kHz, this month, will be heard well on the west coast of the USA from 03:00 UTC onwards. The 04:00 UTC VOACAP chart is shown in the 2nd attachment.
Brendan1
01-09-2010, 12:43
RNZI had transmitter problems last night, on all three frequencies, although this broadcast was excellent until the end.
One tiny blip of SNR at the very beginning of the logging period 02:01 UTC.
Brendan1
03-09-2010, 00:46
Zyg - Your blip may be just that, a blip. I had nothing here last night at all. I think the transmitter was off, as 11675 had issues later.
Brendan1
03-09-2010, 07:11
Very good again last evening. Some fade outs towards the end of the broadcast.
The blip at the start and another tiny blip at 03:18. :(
Brendan1
04-09-2010, 05:07
The band faded towards the end tonight, but otherwise it was excellent for most of the log.
Just a tiny trace of signal. :(
Just a trace of signal at the beginning of the log.
Brendan1
05-09-2010, 14:48
It was 99.97% last night, one dropout, and virtually perfect. It doesn't get much better than this... :D
Brendan1
06-09-2010, 14:44
Very until the last 40 minutes or so, then it looks like the band faded, and then perhaps the transmitter dropped for a while. Give my 11675 results from last night, propagation alone could be responsible.
Just a small trace of signal.
FritzWue
07-09-2010, 21:28
I can see no. 36 but cannot decode it. :o
Brendan1
09-09-2010, 02:39
For computer reasons, not logging this one as usual every night. Doing some tune-up work...
Pretty good reception, and then WHAM! Down the tubes... Also ended a little early because the cat shut off the UPS, crashing the PC. :o
FritzWue
09-09-2010, 04:46
Unattended overnight log.
From today on RNZI starts at 19:51 UTC on that frequency now, I'll have a look tonight.
FritzWue
09-09-2010, 20:22
First time I try to monitor RNZI on this frequency from the start.
After a few minutes the signal was suddenly gone, looks like TX failure. :(
Brendan1
10-09-2010, 10:05
Not bad, but the band is really fading out now and it will only get worse until RNZI shifts on 30 October.
Same as yesterday. Basically nothing.
FritzWue
10-09-2010, 22:09
The band is dead tonight, absolutely nothing!
Brendan1
11-09-2010, 05:09
The band wasn't dead here tonight, Fritz! I do start later than you do, and that helps me here.
I did notice on doing some 20M amateur digital listening (WSPR mode) that it was fairly dead there today, I could receive only NA stations. The low solar flux number is killing things...
Not totally dead here, but almost. Same reception as before - just a trace.
Brendan1
12-09-2010, 04:58
Quite good tonight.
Just a trace of signal at the beginning.
No signal received overnight.
Brendan1
13-09-2010, 12:41
Poor propagation last night.
Brendan1
14-09-2010, 04:15
Fall is arriving here: the band is shutting down earlier and earlier it seems.
Brendan1
15-09-2010, 03:30
A short log tonight, encouraged by some Windows updates that required a re-start. Pretty good propagation, but I don't think it will last much longer this evening.
0400: signal is now gone, not a trace on the waterfall.
Brendan1
16-09-2010, 23:26
Almost forgot to post this: very nice propagation for the last 12 minutes, which tells me the band was still open then. The previous hours of silence are due to the monthly transmitter maintenance period.
The band has been closing far earlier then this lately, so this is good...:D
Brendan1
17-09-2010, 13:37
Two hours of extremely good reception, and then the band fell apart.
Logger showed no overnight signal.
Brendan1
18-09-2010, 14:36
Reception was excellent to a point, and after that, nothing.
Brendan1
19-09-2010, 05:11
Well, the cat stepped on the UPS again, shutting off the PC once more. I've got to rig something to keep him from doing that, but I'm not sure what.
They have to make the switch capable of not shutting off when a 15 pound/7 kilo cat stands on it! And no, he's not fat, just very large.
Not too good this evening and the band closed early, just about the time Bob stopped everything.
Logger showed no signal overnight.
Brendan1
20-09-2010, 12:41
Not too bad last night, but the band is certainly shutting down more quickly now.
A small blip of signal at the beginning.
Brendan1
21-09-2010, 03:34
RNZI was effectively gone by 0330 - not enough waveform to record as data, although traces of it are still on the waterfall at 0333.
Not surprising that the logger showed no signal overnight.
Logger continued to show no signal overnight.
Brendan1
22-09-2010, 13:21
This one's going, slowly, as the band keeps shutting down earlier and earlier.
Brendan1
23-09-2010, 12:15
There was a good stretch of good audio, but please note this log is nearly 90 minutes short of the actual end. Another few weeks and there probably won't be anything. :(
...and there wasn't anything shown on the logger overnight.
Brendan1
24-09-2010, 04:59
Well, I'm not feeling entirely abandoned tonight: RNZI stuck around for my entire log, although not always decodable.
Nothing received here overnight.
Brendan1
25-09-2010, 05:03
This log turned out better than I thought it would.
Wow, some signal logged overnight (but no audio decoding)!
Brendan1
26-09-2010, 04:59
Back to the same old not-very-good log of previous evenings.
Trace of signal towards the end of the broadcast period.
Brendan1
27-09-2010, 04:34
Much the same as most of the previous evenings: fade-in, then fade-out.
A small signal blip at the beginning.
Logger showed no signal received overnight.
Brendan1
28-09-2010, 13:41
I did okay last night, but I do think I won't be able to get this one soon.
Brendan1
29-09-2010, 04:35
Pretty much gone by 2130 local. :(
Nothing loggged last night.
Brendan1
30-09-2010, 04:06
This broadcast closed an entire hour earlier tonight. Not a good sign. :(
A small burst of signal towards the end.
Brendan1
01-10-2010, 03:44
Lost about 15 minutes more tonight. :(
I didn't receive any signal overnight.
Brendan1
02-10-2010, 03:48
The band is still shutting down pretty early, although tonight it was 20 minutes later than last night. The variables of propagation.
Logger indicated no signal received overnight.
Brendan1
03-10-2010, 03:32
Right on time: 2030 local, 2.5 hours after local sunset.
Brendan1
04-10-2010, 04:20
RNZI actually stayed on-air a little longer tonight, about 15 minutes. Still closing early... :(
The overnight reception report with the new long wire antenna, Some signal and a little audio at the end of the transmission.
Brendan1
05-10-2010, 04:15
Another early closing tonight, about on a par with the last few evenings.
Last night's reception report.
Logger indicated no signal received overnight.
Brendan1
07-10-2010, 12:25
The RNZI transmitter off-air due to monthly maintenance. Not a peep here either, but sometimes they do come up late on 15720 if they finish early.
Brendan1
08-10-2010, 06:41
No early shutdown tonight, and the band stayed open nearly the entire time.
SF75, A4, K2.
Logger indicated no signal received overnight.
Brendan1
09-10-2010, 12:00
Extremely poor conditions last night.
Logger indicated no signal received overnight.
Logger indicated no signal received overnight.
Logger indicated no signal received overnight.
After days of no signal, and following a minor geomagnetic storm I was not expecting these overnight results. Audio was decoded for part of the transmission and SNR reached over 17dB! and :)
Conditions dropped back - logger indicated no signal received overnight.
Logger indicated no signal received overnight.
Logger indicated no signal received overnight.
Brendan1
15-10-2010, 14:50
It wasn't all that bad, although it dropped out quickly towards the end.
Logger again indicated no signal received overnight.
Brendan1
16-10-2010, 13:57
It looks like the higher SF numbers are helping: a stronger signal for a longer period last night, even though decoding still stopped early.
Brendan1
17-10-2010, 04:16
Earliest closing so far this season. :(
Logger again indicated no signal received overnight.
Brendan1
18-10-2010, 04:11
A short log tonight, as I was doing some antenna comparison work and needed to switch off between two different ones. Not all that great reception either...
Logger received no signal.
Brendan1
19-10-2010, 03:19
Boy, did this one tank early! Shortest log yet for RNZI.
Logger received no signal.
Brendan1
20-10-2010, 12:19
Somewhat longer than the previous evening, but there was a dramatic "cliff" drop-off well before the end of the transmission.
Logger received no signal.
Logger received no signal.
Brendan1
22-10-2010, 03:11
I think RNZI was off-air last night for maintenance - I had nothing here at all and shut down for the night.
Logger received no signal.
Brendan1
22-10-2010, 15:24
A short period of reception last night, but the fall season is certainly here now. :(
Brendan1
23-10-2010, 03:57
Very nice reception right up until it dropped off the 'digital' cliff... ;)
A trace of signal at the very beginning.
Brendan1
24-10-2010, 05:01
Another night, another short log. Despite moving and mounting my loop antenna outside today, it does not seem to have helped reception... :(
Only several bursts of low SNR.
Brendan1
25-10-2010, 03:48
Another couple of weeks and there won't be anything to log. :(
Edit: Looking at the data this morning shows that RNZI came in much later, well after I had gone to bed. This log now reflects the additional reception data.
Just a minimal trace of signal towards the end.
Brendan1
26-10-2010, 12:18
I think they were off air for most of my logging period, and I even saw an analog signal on frequency at 0448, which I confirmed as RNZI with a separate receiver. Definitely having problems last night. :(
Logger received no signal.
Brendan1
27-10-2010, 11:57
Just when I think propagation will shortly kill my RNZI reception, stuff like this log happens. ;)
Logger received no signal.
Brendan1
29-10-2010, 06:30
The 28th was extremely short, and DRM LogPlot didn't like the long log, and wouldn't load up. DRM Calc worked as it only loads the short log.
The 29th has a little more to the log, and this time the data was just fine, so DRM LogPlot worked. :)
Logger received no signal.
Traces of signal but that's all there is... here in Switzerland.

Traces of signal but that's all there is... here in Switzerland.
A little more here. :)
@ Fritz: Hihi, just beware until you'll see my logs from Japan next month!
FritzWue

Something visible but too weak to decode:
@ Fritz: Hihi, just beware until you'll see my logs from Japan next month!
@Fritz, I owe you an update from Japan - supposed to have been a few good logs, but unfortunately I did not catch anything in DRM on this QRG.
Excerpt from my notes on the lap-top:
15720 kHz, RNZI on 14.12.2010 at 2145 UTC ±15 minutes; trace of signal but not even the Label could be seen.
15720 kHz, RNZI on 21.12.2010 at 2130 UTC, traces of signal but only the ID:36 could be seen.
/15720/ New Zealand in English 20.12.2010 around 0430 UTC (noted again 04.01.2011 around 0325 UTC with a rather weak AM signal, and again on 07.01.2011 at 0005 UTC with a rather strong signal).
Compared to DRM, AM can at least be received with a good, readable signal whereas the DRM gets chopped up so that listening becomes virtually impossible, at least very frustrating.
SNR peaking to 12.3 dB with 0.25% audio decoding.
RNZI has not updated it's text message with this frequency.
Brendan1
11-03-2011, 12:17
I did not expect reception to be this good: 99.62%. It seems a little counter-intuitive to go to a higher frequency from a lower one at this time of day, but hey, if it works, don't knock it!
Brendan1
12-03-2011, 12:50
Nothing logged at all last night. No "little" spikes, no big ones either; a complete blank.
Logger received no signal.
Logger received no signal.

13-03-2011, 15:11
Somewhere between brain and mouse a synapse failed, and a box wasn't checked: no log here...
Logger received no signal.
Brendan1
14-03-2011, 14:59
Nothing here either, not one iota of RF.
Brendan1
15-03-2011, 13:18
Nothing again. I'll switch back to 11675 tonight to see if they reverted back down. Even if we don't get any decoding there should be some sign of signal here, and there is absolutely nothing.
Logger received no signal.
Logger received no signal.
It will be interesting to see if Brendan logged anything on 11675 kHz.
Brendan1
16-03-2011, 14:18
Zyg - I sure did! Reception here was 100% perfect! I've put it under the RNZI 11675 thread.
I thought to try this frequency overnight.
SNR peaked to 14.64 dB and there was 6.37% audio decoded.
Brendan1
22-03-2011, 11:47
Noted. I had nothing on 11675 again, so back to here we go!
SNR peaking to 7.88 dB and no audio decoded.
Brendan1
23-03-2011, 11:39
Zyg - you got a lot more than I did. Only a couple of tiny RF spikes here.
Brendan1
24-03-2011, 11:30
Nothing to report here.
SNR peaking to 3.46 dB and no audio decoded.
Brendan1
25-03-2011, 11:18
One very brief burst: No decode, max SNR 5.86dB.
SNR peaking to 8.45 dB and no audio decoded.
Brendan1
26-03-2011, 13:12
Nothing here again.
Brendan1
27-03-2011, 13:53
As it is the first day, I'm posting my results. Not much really, just a couple of little RF spikes, with no decoding.
SNR peaking to 8.73 dB and no audio decoded.
Brendan1
28-03-2011, 13:36
My best reception yet: 0.02% decoding, with 12.85dB being the SNR peak.
Brendan1
29-03-2011, 12:14
Nothing last night.
SNR peaking to 16.30 dB and 48.92% audio decoded. This included the 3 minute late start.
FritzWue
31-03-2011, 21:31
The signal is strong but undecodeable here:
FritzWue
15-04-2011, 21:27
Much better result today, the time of the DRM schedule in the text window is wrong:
Tune just up to 15Mhz and RNZI have good signal but I have only antenna for 10Mhz to my room just now. So signal was not so strong.
Log 27min .

Tonight I tried to find a starting point to learn Tongan language.
Obviously no chance at all.
Good signal from RNZI this evning also. log 47min.

Hi all,
Some fragments of audio from the pacific.
Very nice signal and music from RNZI her in 52min. on this freq. :) :) :)
Yesterday i tried with 10m vertical around 11m above ground. Reception of RNZI was good. Around 17dBm +- fading, 1.5Hz doppler. I listened about 20minutes. Audio was not 100% stable during this time but the gaps were rather short.
The transmission on 15720 was active longer than the schedule said. There was nothing audible on 17MHz.
Very nice signal from RNZI this evning. CDA 94% ok. :)

22-04-2012, 20:19
Strong signal but no decoding possible at my location:

28-04-2012, 21:27
Almost an hour with audio tonight:
Nice to hear RNZI again but not so strong signal stringth. Log 42min. Best signal in start.
Log 43min. but very low signal stringth only S7 . CDA 29% ok .
