View Full Version : RNZI on 7145 kHz
Hi All
I've been receiving a weak DRM signal on 7145 kHz from 0827 UTC today.
It is too weak to decode any service id, but language shows as "English" with "ID:36"
I presume this is RNZI.
Cheers, Chris

hi all,
I got only few secs audio for 2hrs.
There is signal from N.K. on 7140KHZ from 1600 UTC.
And there is other unknown signal on 7150KHZ from 10:00 UTC.
No audio here either. The signal on 7140 kHz is also strong here now (1100 UTC).
Cheers, Chris

My apologies - I've got to pay more attention to the thread topic!
7145 at 0658Z was coming in extremely well (19-20 dB), but I didn't log it - shame! As it was midnight local, I had to go to bed unfortunately.

Hi all,
there were 2 strong stations up 5khz and down 5KHZ.
N.K. stations was down 5KHZ(7140KHZ) and another one
is an unknown religious station up 5KHZ(7150KHZ)
N.K. station stopped transmission at 09:50.
But they started again a few mins after around 09:57.
So I was able to get some audio this time.
There was just a few minutes audio on 7145KHZ.
If there are none of these stations I can get good audio on 7145KHZ.
A trace of a signal

hi all,
There are heavy QRMs at 16:51-1850 in Japan.
QRMs are +5KHZ and -5KHZ.
And No aidio.

Not much, but just enough for the label and two pings of audio: :)

Here we go. Several decent hours within the whole. Not sure if this is due to current band conditions, but I'd guess that is so.
I couldn't sleep so got up and listened to RNZI on 7145 kHz for a while. :) Good conditions; looks like they switched off two hours earlier than scheduled.

Insomnia must be catching. Woke up early, so why not log RNZI? Have just over an hour on this freq with pretty good results, but you can see the SNR slowly declining during the log.
Look how close these two logs are! Also notice the blips at near 11:00z. I wonder what that is? These are unattended.
This morning's (unattended) 7145 Khz reception.
My worst log this freq to date
Yuck! Bands must be awful
Except for my insomnia, things are looking up! I loved the "Kiwi Music" as usual...
Only a weak signal in Seoul, Korea today, no audio decoding.
Simone
Strong signal today using the DWT/wire but also AM interference from -5kHz, good enough for audio decoding though.
Simone
(currently in Seoul, Korea)
No audio decoding possible, AM interferer was too strong :(

After no signal on 15720 kHz today, RNZI was back on this freqency this afternoon, but the AM interferer was too strong., so not much audio decoding.

This morning's (October 5) reception report (partially attended).
The audio was dropping out as I got up this morning although the signal was strong S9 +25 dB. I took a screen shot of the Impulse response (attached) and a copy of the ID screen (that must be what caused the upward blip on the audio trace at 10:06).
Interesting that a strong signal can produce relatively low SNR due to pulse dispersion.

I can tell bands must be improving :)
WOW, now we are getting somewhere :D
This morning's (unattended) 7145 kHz reception report.
Not sure what the blip is at 04:55, perhaps RTL?

Oh well... back to 17.46k on all freqs though.
This morning's (unattended) report.
Kinda dies after 1.5 hours...
Back to odd 17.38k bitrate too!
Well, my daughter woke up in the middle of the night. This caused about an hour of lost sleep for me, so why not listen to RNZI! Besides a few little (and one serious) blips, looks like nearly 3 hours of 99%+ audio!
What is the big dip at 0804? Seems like it is in most of my logs of this broadcast?
Hi all.
Her i my best log from DX DRM on this freq. Im sorry only 40min.from end of transmission and CDA 99% ok.
:) :)
Too bad I didn't get 99% audio...
Looks like they have added their DRM schedule in the text window!
Hi,
I gave it a try. But with AM in the middle and another strong AM -5 kHz, what more could you expect...?
Terje
That is what I like to see. I "podcasted" it to my mp3 player and will listen at work! :D
Hi all.
Signal come up after 1200UTC . So now CDA 99% ok from 25min.
:)
I seem to be able to rely on a nice chunk of listening nightly!
Unattended of course ;)
Hi.
Her is log over 90min, from this day. Very good propagation ,and low signal from AM station on 7145Khz. My S-meter swing from S7 to S9+10db.
:) :)
Looks like 98%ish over all.
from 0709-1051 I have 99.99% audio. Conditions must be improving!
Hi,
Tried yesterday, Sunday, but German Hams in SSB made reception completely impossible. This morning I caught the Title picture at least, but there is too much QRM from adjacent AM channels.
Terje
Hi
Her is log over 90min, CAD 79% ok.Very good propagation last 60min.
:)
But not as good as some of my other longs. Nice to see sigs getting into Europe!
Hi.
RNZI come up to S9+10db 1125UTC and SNR max 26db . Very good last 90min.
RNZI have best signal in 7Mhz band this time.
:)
99.38% over the whole broadcast.
Hi all,
Well, Europe. It is not that simple. Here in Switzerland there was a burst of sound for a couple of milliseconds :D at my location. Too many AM broadcasters on and on the adjacent channels. Monaco on 7.160 MHz with splattery "ssss":es managed to interfere as well.
Terje
Hi all.
Today total success from RNZI log of 119min and CDA 98% and Max SNR 27.7db. End of transmission peak my Smeter S9+15db !!!! QSB only S9+5/S9+10db .
;)
Must be propagation issues.
Two peaks, but overall 25.7% audio. Yuck.
Hi all.
Her is my log, RNZI come up 1100UTC very good to 1230UTC . Now signal fade out.
:)
I got the B06 sked in email last night. Just in time cause this freq has died!
Hi all,
on a clear frequency reception would be possible in Europe. I logged with two radios on one antenna. With the notch-filter on the AM-carrier in the center the SNR is about 3 dBs better - but not enough for deoding.
Bernd, DF9RB
Hi,
One and a half hours of "listening". Sometimes there was a steady audio stream. But despite a strong signal up to S9 +10 dB (about +40 dBuV on my radio) RNZI drowned in the on-channel AM QRM. Pity.
Terje
1340-1505z I got 100% audio. Awesome. Adrian may have really picked a nice frequency for NA!
Hi all,
one TX at the appropriate location covers most parts of the world - North America, Europe, Pacific and probably big parts of Asia!
At 15:00 strong QRM.
Bernd, DF9RB
Reception at Paris with QRM by Deutsche Welle in russian on 7145 kHz.

Hi,
also this frequency was working in Helsinki.

Not bad at all today:
It seems, I tuned in too late. Signal strength was ok when I tuned in but interference right on channel and 5 kHz below was too strong.
Roland
All time I had strong QRM on that the same frequency and +5 khz. Anyway, propagation from Pacyfic to Europe have been fantastic for a few days.
then the co-channel QRM interference came up!
Hi,
Despite QRM from both sides, the RNZI signal rose to unseen levels here and I got a lot of decoded audio. Then suddenly at 1400 they went QRT
Terje
Hi,
It was not as good today as yesterday. The schedule in the Dream states 1300-1750: 7'145 kHz, but the carrier went dead at 14 UTC today too.
Terje
PS: The DRM signal returned at 1500 UTC, but drowned completely after 16 UTC. I added the 2nd log to this entry.
Hi,
Today's ups and downs. Cannot really expect any better with AM on (at least) one channel 5 kHz away.
Terje
Hi all.
Bad propagation and very problem for QRM from AM stations today.
Hi,
Had to give up this one..... When AM pops up on the same channel and at least on -5 kHz as well, then it is no use...
Hi,
quite good until 14:00 when 5 kHz down a strong station in AM started.
Bernd, DF9RB
Hi,
today only until 13;45 acceptable quality.
Bernd, DF9RB
Quite good for the first hour on this QRG.
Hi all.
Short log from RNZI propagation on this band from NZ was good up to S9 this time. log only 17min. After AM start on 7145 DRM stop.
Hi,
acceptable in Soth East Germany until 14:00
Bernd, DF9RB
Hi,
acceptable until 15:30
Bernd, DF9RB
Hi all.
Very good signal from RNZI today, long time ago I can listen to RNZI on this freq. No problem from AM . Very good 50min, log.
:)
Hi all.
RNZI start 1400 UTC on this freq. Not good today very AM problem.

Just a little bit of RNZI with ID 36, maybe better at start around 07:00 UTC.
RX in usb mode with automatic audio notchfilter to suppress the carrier.
Title, no sound, AM in the middle and 5 kHz below. Definitely strongest at the beginning of the log.
Same result as yesterday . . .
Good signal from RNZI but carrier on 7145 krazz DRM signal. Last 15min in log.
:( :(
Wov last 18min of transmission and CDA79% ok. Good signal from RNZI but carrier on 7145 give very problem.
Wov more music from RNZI ,log 56min. and CDA95%.OK
More music from RNZI but strong AM on 7145 to 1200UTC ,signal stringth from RNZI go up and AM stop modulation. So from 1155 to 1258 63min CDA 88% ok . Log is 92min.
:)
Not so good reciption today for big problem from AM on 7140 and 7145Khz.
Best propagation was 0800to 0900 and 1220 to 1300UTC .
