CVC is pleased to announce a period of regular daily transmissions in Portuguese from Santiago targeting Brazil.
Time: 1900-1200 UTC
Frequency: 17645kHz
Power: 15kW
Broadcaster: Voz Crista
Language: Portuguese
Bearing: 45 deg
Target: Brazil
DRM technical parameters will vary
Reports and comments welcome here as always
Many thanks
Andrew Flynn
Hi Andrew,
if you don't get any report from Brazil, at least a "poor" report from Europe. Very weak signal detectable from 19h24 to 19h37. However no station name in Dream :-( and far away from any audio.

Notes :
1) Reception was better yesterday as from 19h40 up to the end I had a 95% audio.
2) Today audio comes only after 19h40, getting better and better up to the end of transmission.
3) Maybe you should delay one hour your test transmission for better propagation ?
4) Your analog signal on 15.485 kHz comes much stronger that the digital signal. A test on the 19m band ?

Dear Denis,
On Friday, last week, and Monday, this week, we were broadcasting to Brazil with the transmitter we use to target Mexico. This transmitter has a better mask, so we wanted to know if it was possible to reach Brazil, getting a better reception, which I see was possible. Yesterday we used the transmitter we were using before, and reception was not as good as on Monday.
Since Friday we are using a bit rate of 14680 bps (earlier 11640 bps). Can you please tell me if there is a notorious difference in the quality of the audio?
Thank you,
Mathias

Dear Mathias,
I was suprised myself that reception was better on 17640 KHz, althought the target area is not Brazil. I would suggest that the "better mask" transmitter be used for few more days on 17645 KHz to confirm the results.
Regarding the bit rate; 14,7 kbps sound much better that 11,6 kbps.
I am waiting for the antenna loop Wellbrook ALA 330S in order to improve reception. I have some QRM in my aera. With the Yaesu S meter most of the time at S++, it is strange the the SNR be sometimes so low with some ajustments done on the mixer and receiver to improve SNR.
Regards,
Denis

Hi,
Interesting, 17,64 MHz: No trace at all (see the exciting log ;) ) but 5 kHz up just after 19 UT, look what happened! (even more exciting log). I enclosed a couple of screen shots of the title and of the impulse response.

Good that you can hear us so far away!! Terje, you have been trying to get us and finaly you did.
We are using a transmitter which doesn't have very good mask, and you can hear us; there is maybe good propagation today. We'll try to work to improve our transmission.
Mathias :)
Hi Mathias and all
It is just getting better and better. Ionogram in Spain shows MUF 21 MHz over 3000 km. I am stunned! For the last 15 minutes I have recorded almost all as wav.
Terje
Hi Mathias and all,
It's a pity the transmission came to an end! It just got better and better the later in the evening. The Sun is quiet; some solar wind is spewing in the Earth direction, but this was just great.:)
Just for your information there was not a trace of the transmission 5 kHz down the hour before.

Hi to all,
Last week was better.

Hi Mathias,
after reading the promissing posts here, I tried it myself in the second half. Perfect reception here in Frankfurt. A surprisingly low SNR, although the signal was quite strong and the frequency was absolute clear. I think that the SNR was low because of the mode A. The signal looked to flutterful for mode A, but I didn't watched the Impulse response. But anyway perfect reception over 12000 kms which sounded beter than DW on 3995 khz with just 11 kbps. See graph with fieldstrength in dbµV.
Hi all,
This was the CIR at 1956 UTC in Switzerland. Looks not so fantastic, but the sound was good, yes agree, much better than DW on 3,995 MHz.
Terje

Hi Mathias,
I have recorded yesterday's prgr and from 1935 UTC here 100% audio. Signal improved here after 1930, but on average better than yesterday. My S-meter sways from S4 to S6 with QSB now climbing towards S7.... (S6 is about -77 dBm from a signal generator).

Last night the Dream played a trick on me and shut down by itself. Thus this is all I got. Just now on the 9th, there is some interrupted sound coming.
Terje
Hi all,
too weak today.... At 19:14 I activated the preamp of the TS850 - but no influence to SNR or audio.
Bernd
Hi,
The first 20 minutes with quite a lot of audio, but then it was over.
Terje
Hej Mathias and all.
Very good transmission and propagations, my log is the best from Brazil.
From start weak signal ,but after 15 min up to S6/S7 and QSB to S9 .
Hi all,
Today's first 30 minutes brought quite a lot of decoded audio, but then the signal faded to S0-S2. Just before close-down I got some audio again.
Terje
PS: I wonder what was on the frequency BEFORE 1900 UTC? See the enclosed screen shot. Any clues? Mathias?
Hi All
There was a weak DRM signal on 17645 kHz here in Wellington today. Too poor for any decoding though. This is the first time I've seen any signs of these CVC transmissions here.
Cheers, Chris
Hi,
only audio for 15 minutes. Fieldstrength indication increased at 19:40. This is a little bug if the S-meter decreases to real S0.

Hi,
First traces ever recorded here of 17.640 MHz, just after 18 UT until Dream decided to crash all by itself after 50 minutes of logging. The log until the crash is enclosed. Like I said, traces of DRM...
No trace of 17.645 MHz at 19 UTC, but just before 1908 UTC I got 40 seconds of DRM, then the signal disappeared abruptly for some reason. Around 1920 UTC the DRM came back suddenly, but after 1944 UTC it disappeared or faded out definitely.
Terje
Hi .
Good condition to day , i have 10 min for good sound . 59% CDA . Slow fading.:)
Hi All
Signal noted on 17645 kHz here in Wellington again today. There was even a bit of broken audio decoding today.
Cheers, Chris
Hi all.
No signal first 30 min. After 1930 GMT, up from S0 to S9+5db for next 25 min.
Only small QSB S7-S9+5db under this 25min. :)
Hi,
Here two logs, one for 17.640 and one for 17.645 MHz. The latter brought some news just after 19 UTC and some broken sound. Towards the end of the hour there was not a trace of signal left.
Terje
Hi,
Something today, too...
Terje
Hi all,
A little bit of audio at the beginning.
Bernd, DF9RB
Hi Mathias and all,
Despite bad conditions here with nil reception over 1500 km during the day, I was very much surprised to get so much decoded audio from so far away. Interesting! The first 30 minutes were very good with a lot of un-interrupted audio. I think it would be worth trying with a little bit higher bitrate just for fun and add SBR.

Hi Mathias and all,
Today it was the other way round: Bad in the beginning and a good second half. Unfortunately, I had to leave the receiver unattended...

No audio today...
SNR < 10 dB
Bernd, DF9RB
Much better conditions today!..
Bernd, DF9RB
Hi Mathias and all,
I had to go out and missed the first 20 minutes. Shame, as there was almost 100% decoded audio when I was away... Around the half hour the conditions worsened, but picked up again. One of the best sessions so far. :)
Terje
Quite good conditions today.

I would like to thank you all for your reception reports - it is very encouraging! I am pleased to announce that we are increasing the length of these broadcasts to 2 hours on the new frequency 17660kHz.
Please use the following thread for any reception reports:

Thanks again,

New season, new adventures. No signal when I came down first, then at 1837 when my log started, the previous 15 minutes of SNR history showed presence of DRM signal. Suddenly the sound came (someone forgot to turn on the modulation?), and the rest was pretty good.
Enclosed is an 84 min. log.
Hi all.
Super signal today , now sound from start to 1840UTC. Very strong and stabile signal now , up to S9 .
Hi,
also in Helsinki stable signal. 42 minutes 99% CDA (CVC 17640 kHz)
Seppo
A weak start but then it picked up and became quite good. At times there was quite heavy Fading. I noticed a break in the transmission around 1940 UTC. (?)
From 1833 UTC until the end there was 99% decoded audio. :)
Less strong a signal tonight. Towards the end the SNR dropped so I stopped the log a little early.
Hi,
No audio today, but a clearly visiable signal. Max SNR 9 dB.

Hi all,
Some audio moments from South America.
WOW. Almost perfect tonight!
The same nearly perfect situation tonight as yesterday. Only the first couple of minutes the signal was a bit weak. The rest was near to perfect. The best SNR was recorded during the two periods when I switched the AGC to "Slow". A little bit lower bitrate, and the result would probably have been even better.

Hi to all,
Today's log.
Seems that reception is better over Europe.
Regards,
Denis
The carrier wave at 1801 UTC (for a while) was that CVC?? Then at 1818 UTC suddenly DRM appeared on the channel. In the beginning my S-meter peaked S3, which is roughly 2 too little to get steady audio from CVC.
The signal improved slowly and from 1845 UTC until QRT I recorded >99% audio. In my zoom I noted a 2 minute break around 1839 UTC.
Easter Holiday? No trace of any signal here tonight... :(
It started out relatively well, but then the signal gradually weakened. The log was unattended until 1920 UTC, but at that time all there was was a carrier wave without any trace of modulation.
PS: The carrier wave disappeared at 20:00:20 UTC.
Interesting: At 1811 UTC I shortened the antenna from 18 meters length to 11 meters, and the result was stunning. From 1811 UTC until QRT the decoded audio was 99.8%. Very impressing.
Bad propagation today .very low signal stringth S1/S4 and tunderstorms over Europe, give only drop outs . Log 44min.and CDA 44%ok !!! Tx brake down 1825UTC and I start log again 1900UTC log stop 1920.
Very good reception at Paris on 17640 kHz.
Daniel
