View Full Version : Vatican Radio on 13750 kHz
Hi all,
DRM tests from Vatican Radio this morning on 13750 kHz.
See screenshot.

Hi,
The excellent DRMDiscoverer listed this transmission with target N America.
Despite that I had a good reception here in Sweden.
Time: 12:13 - 12:54 UTC.
Received txt msg: We are sending a DRM SW transmission test.
About as solid a transmission as it gets- received signal was S9+ about 80dB... had to set the attenuator at the -20dB level for much of the broadcast.

Hi all,
Although I am out of the target area and rather in the back lobe, I had this not bad result.

Hopefully this post won't get deleted as were my other postings....
Vatican Radio's test DRM transmission to North America was received here in Detroit, MI USA on 17-December-2005 at 1230 UTC. Full audio reception with no dropouts was receivable by 1240 UTC and got better and better until signoff at 1300 (as daylight was reached).
Program was in Italian until 1240 and then a very enjoyable Christ-Mass music programme in English until sign-off at 1300.

Even better reception today (21-Dec-2005) at 12:50 UTC. Pinning the dBs at 21.5 dB. Wonderful Christ-mass vocal music with English announcer.
It amazes me that even with a poor choice of frequency (22 metre band at sunrise from Europe), that Vatican Radio's DRM transmission does as well as it does to the Midwest USA.
Any other North Americans receiving this????

Hi all,
Here is another out of target result.
John.
Note @ administrator: There are two threads on this matter, I think that they must be merged.
Thanks

Hi all,
This transmission is not intended for my area but it has been received. Not bad. See the attached log file.
John.
Also me am not in the target zone of this broadcast, but I can receive it. Sounded better, than the log looks like, but of course Vivaldi's music with drop outs ("Andante molto interrotto" :( ) is not really pleasant for ones ears.

A little better today than 3 weeks ago, but signal was still going up and down like a roller coaster, especially in the beginning.

Hi all,
Being in the back lobe of the TX coverage patern I didn't expect a better result than the attached one, but it is not bad. Nice music.
John.
Hi,
Well, I'm not in NA - but reception was quite good at:
11:19 - 11:47 UTC. Result: CDA = 42%.

If I was in North America it would be a good result:
;)
A very strong signal in Munich today. There was a problem with occasional crackles on the audio during my entire listening period.

Hi all,
A lot of fading but a not bad result in my area, being out of target.
John.
Great results in the UK using a specially modified Winradio G303e
Hi,
Out of target, but still a good signal now and then. Max SNR 21 dB, average just 9 dB.

Hi all,
Well, out of target area (I would say behind) but a good signal, which suffered by fast fading, gave the attached (bumpy) result.

Hi all,
Relatively strong and stable signal [~50 dBuV] but no sound.
John.
Good signal, even better to the end, but no audio (?) and not even a service label today!
Seems they need the Tx for heating purposes only.
This morning's Radio Vaticana 13,750 kHz transmission to North America (11:00-12:00) reception report.
Had to leave so missing the last 15 minutes.
First half hour in Italian, and the second half in English.

A very good result today.
John.
This morning's Radio Vaticana 13,750 kHz transmission to North America (11:00-12:00) reception report.
Propagation poor during the first half of the transmission period. Steadily improving during the 2nd half.
Pop music program in English.

Hi all,
A very good result. Some TX break-downs noticed.
John.
Strong DRM signal on 13750 kHz from Vatican Radio here today, but even stronger AM signal on 13745 kHz meant no decoding possible :(
Cheers, Chris
